1ST ASSOCIATION OF UGANDA UNIVERSITY SPORTS (AUUS) WOMENS GAMES REPORT
1.0 Introduction
Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Gender and Women Commission in conjunction with Islamic University Uganda (IUIU) Kabojja Campus conducted the first ever AUUS women’s games on the 8th March 2018 to celebrate Women’s day and promoting Sports for girl Child in Uganda.
The games got under way on the 8th March 2018 at the IUIU women’s campus located within Kabojja, Wakiso district. The games competed for included Chess, Volleyball, Swimming, Badminton and scrabble.
Makerere University Business School (MUBS) was amongst the elite participating universities at these prestigious games. MUBS became the first University to be the Overall winner of the games at this event.
2.0 Status report
The 1st AUUS, Women’s games (chess discipline) attracted a total of 4 Universities, with a field of 14 players from the 4 Universities.
MUBS Ladies team came second in the AUUS women’s chess games, With Mbarara University of science and Technology emerging winners in this discipline.
3.0 Rounds and System
Six (6) rounds of were played in the Swiss system for the AUUS Women chess games of 25mins with no increment.

7.0 Prizes and winners
The top team (Mbarara University of Science and Technology) was awarded a prestigious trophy.
However, MUBS chess club came in second and its points contributed to MUBS winning the overall trophy of the 2018 AUUS women games.
8.0 Challenges
. Short notice availed to the players about the games making practice preparation poor. . Players lack of knowledge of FIDE rules . Inadequate lady players and Universities represented making the field un competitive . Short time control that the players were not accustomed too. . Refreshments and basic energy boosters were not available at the games. . Shortage of clocks to be used during the games

9.0 Way forward
. More time and proper schedules allocated to Club to plan for such events in advance. . MUBS Chess Club works more closely with UCF, NCS, ACC and FIDE to get the necessary assistance during national and international events to be able to meet top level performance . MUBS Chess Club, prints and circulates rules and regulations in accordance to the National laws and FIDE rules to improve knowledge and understanding of them. . MUBS Chess Club in partnership with the Office of the Sports Tutor should incentivize more female participation in the these games . Increased awareness by AUUS is need about the games with in its members so as to increase participation at these games. . MUBS Chess club to work closely with Office of the sports Tutor to have basic energy boosters and refreshments available during the games for the players. . MUBS Chess club should consider obtaining chess materials ie clocks and boards that would be enough to run tournaments . Engagement of UCF to provide chess materials during such events.
