ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 16A BOROUGH COUNCIL (2016 BEDFORD RIVER FESTIVAL) (1451) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2016

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Bedford Borough Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this Notice to make an Order the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle, except a vehicle associated with the 2016 Bedford River Festival or a vehicle being used for fire, police or ambulance purposes in an emergency, from proceeding along those lengths of road in Bedford as detailed below:-

Lengths Affected from 1900hrs Friday 15 th July 2016 to 2200hrs Friday 15 th July 2016 The Embankment: From Albany Road to Bushmead Avenue. Rothsay Road: From The Embankment to Waterloo Road.

Lengths Affected from 0700hrs Saturday 16 th July 2016 to 0030hrs Sunday 17 th July 2016 & Lengths Affected from 0700hrs Sunday 17 th July 2016 to 2200hrs Sunday 17 th July 2016 The Embankment: The whole length. Newnham Road: The whole length. Albany Road: The whole length. Rothsay Road: From The Embankment to Castle Road. Bushmead Avenue: From The Embankment to Castle Road. Waterloo Road: The whole length. Russell Avenue: The whole length. Howbury Street: From Russell Avenue to Castle Road. Bower Street: From Russell Avenue to Castle Road. Pembroke Street: From Russell Avenue to Castle Road. York Street: From Russell Avenue to Castle Road. Denmark Street: From Russell Avenue to Castle Road. Dudley Street: From Russell Avenue to Castle Road. George Street: From Russell Avenue to Castle Road. Shaftesbury Avenue: The whole length. Kingsley Road: The whole length. Tennyson Road: The whole length. Beresford Road: The whole length.

Lengths Affected from 0800hrs Sunday 17 th July 2016 to 1400hrs Sunday 17 th July 2016 De Parys Avenue: The whole length. Foster Hill Road: Prohibits vehicles travelling southbound from Roff Avenue to The Broadway.

Lengths Affected from 1100hrs Sunday 17 th July 2016 to 1400hrs Sunday 17 th July 2016 The Broadway: From Foster Hill Road to High Street. St Peter's Street: From St Cuthbert’s Street to High Street. Dame Alice Street: The whole length. High Street: The whole length. Mill Street: The whole length. St Paul's Square: The whole length. Horne Lane: From the Centre car park to St Paul’s Square. St Mary's Street: The whole length. Please Note: The one way prohibitions on Pembroke Street, York Street, Denmark Street, Dudley Street and George Street, Bedford, will be temporarily revoked as necessary during this Special Event in order to aid traffic management.

These temporary road closures and one way prohibition are required to facilitate the 2016 Bedford River Festival and shall apply to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the appropriate traffic signs or by authorised persons. Where possible access will be maintained to property and premises but may be restricted from time to time according to local signing.

These temporary road closures and one way prohibition are anticipated to be in operation at various times between 1900hrs Friday 15th July 2016 and 2200hrs Sunday 17 th July 2016.

The alternative routes available for vehicles affected by the proposed Order are:- Proceed in a southerly direction along St John’s Street to the St John’s roundabout. Take the 1 st exit onto Rope Walk and continue to the next roundabout. Take the 2 nd exit onto Longholme Way and continue onto Newnham Avenue to Road. Proceed across onto Polhill Avenue and continue to Kimbolton Road. Turn right and continue to Drive. Turn left and continue to the roundabout adjoining Clapham Road. Take the 2 nd exit onto Shakespeare Road and continue to the mini roundabouts. Turn right and then left onto Ashburnham Road and continue to the roundabout adjoining Midland Road. Take the 1 st exit and continue to the roundabout adjoining Prebend Street. Take the 3 rd exit and continue to Cauldwell Street. Turn right and proceed over the bridge to Britannia Road. Turn left and continue to Ampthill Road. Turn left and continue to St John’s roundabout, and vice versa.

During the southbound prohibition of traffic on Foster Hill Road, vehicles should proceed in a westerly direction along Roff Avenue to the roundabout adjoining Tavistock Street. From there, take the 1 st exit and continue along Tavistock Street and then The Broadway to Foster Hill Road, then turn left and continue to site.

The proposed Order will come into operation on 15th July 2016 for a period of three days.
