* Denotes total number of years selected to AVCA Division III All-Region Team

2013 AVCA Division III Region Coaches of the Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. (November 14, 2013) - The following coaches have been selected by their regions as AVCA Region Coaches of the Year. Each of the honorees will represent his/her region on the AVCA National Coach of the Year ballot. The awards will be officially presented at the Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Seattle, WA on Thursday, Dec. 19, at the 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association Annual Convention.

AVCA Division III Central Region Coach of the Year Jane Becker, Augsburg College 2013 Record: 28-4, 10-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference In her fourth season as Augsburg's head coach, Becker has consistently led her team to success in one of the toughest conferences in Division III volleyball. During her time, there have been three, 16-win seasons as well as reaching the MIAC post season playoffs for the second time in program history. Under her guidance, the Auggies won their tournament title at the Augsburg Invitational and also recorded the highest conference win total, which they haven't accomplished both of those feats since 1985. This season, she named the 2013 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball coach of the year by her peers, as well as leading four of her own players to MIAC honors. Becker is now a first-time AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year winner.

AVCA Division III Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year Becky Schmidt, Hope College 2013 record: 29-2, 15-1 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAA) Hope College has had a memorable year, currently ranked No. 2 in the AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll, and looking to make a strong run in their sixth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. The Flying Dutch finished this season at 29-2. Schmidt is no stranger to success with her team - they ranked nationally throughout the 2012 season, had won more than 20 victories for an eighth consecutive season, and finished second in the MIAA standings. In 2013, Hope placed four players on the Great Lakes All-Region team, which is tied for most on that one region team with rival Calvin. In her ten years at the helm, Hope has finished first or second in the MIAA nine years in a row, while leading the Dutch to six consecutive NCAA Tournament berths. Schmidt takes home the Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honor for the first time.

AVCA Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year Heather Pavlik, Juniata College 2013 Record: 30-4, 5-0 Landmark Conference The only team to for every Division III volleyball championship, Juniata continues to flourish under third season head coach Heather Pavlik. Currently ranked eighth in the AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll, Juniata achieved another undefeated conference season this year extending their all-time Landmark Conference record to an unbelievable 54-0. They were hot out of the gate, beginning the 2013 campaign with 14 consecutive victories and never looked back. With a season record of 30-4, Juniata was selected as one of eight host sites for the regional round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed. The Eagles also placed four players on the Mid-Atlantic All-Region team. Pavlik is now a first-time AVCA Region Coach of the Year honoree.

AVCA Division III Midwest Region Coach of the Year Julie Hall, Elmhurst College 2013 Record: 35-4, 7-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) In her third consecutive year and fourth overall as the Midwest Coach of the Year, Hall is ranked in the top-30 of active winningest coaches in Division III volleyball. In her 20th year of coaching, she led her team to a CCIW Championship, a No. 5 ranking in the latest AVCA Coaches Top-25 Poll and host of an NCAA Tournament Regional. Hall was just named the CCIW Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season with four of her players earning first-team all-conference and AVCA Midwest All-Region.

AVCA Division III New England Region Coach of the Year Christi Kelsey, Williams College 2013 Record: 25-4, 10-0 New England Small College Athletic Conference After being hired to take over the program in 2009, Kelsey helped guide the Ephs to be one of the best in the region. Her team continues to have strong seasons, and went undefeated this year in their conference to win the NESCAC Championship yet again. During her five seasons as head coach, she has had players receive NESCAC All-Academic, NESCAC All-Conference, Academic All-American and AVCA All-Region honors to name just a few. Due to their dominant season, Williams placed three players on the All-NESCAC first team with first-year outside hitter Tori Jasuta being named the 2013 NESCAC Player and Rookie of the Year. Kelsey garnered conference coach of the year and AVCA New England Region Coach of the Year honors for the first time in her career.

AVCA Division III New York Region Coach of the Year Johan Dulfer, Clarkson College 2013 Record: 33-6, 12-0 Liberty League Continuing their five-year streak of NCAA appearances, Dulfer has transformed the Golden Knights into one of the strongest teams in their region. Recently capturing the Liberty League Championship title and his 200th career win, Clarkson sits atop the New York region. His teams have posted six consecutive 20-win seasons, including 33 victories in 2013 with an unblemished conference record of 12-0. They will be hosting the New York Regional of the NCAA Tournament and enter the dance as one of the hottest teams in the nation, winners of 16 consecutive

matches when they take on Westfield State on Friday. This is the first time Dulfer has took home the New York Region Coach of the Year award.

AVCA Division III South Region Coach of the Year Julie Jenkins, Trinity University (TX) 2013 Record: 34-6, 13-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Julie Jenkins is no stranger to success after 29 years at the helm of Trinity University. Since 1985, Jenkins has guided her Tigers to 20 NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, including this year when they enter the tournament as host and a No. 2 seed in the San Antonio, Texas Regional. They earned the NCAA berth by winning their 16th Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship last Saturday over Southwestern. The Tigers currently sit at No. 8 in the nation and lead the conference in blocks per set (2.40) thanks in large part to AVCA All- South Region middle blocker Erin Cusenbary. Trinity entered the AVCA Coaches Poll in the fourth week of the season at No. 23, and they have since climbed to their current ranking of No. 14. This season gives her an amazing seven AVCA South Region Coach of the Year honors after winning in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2007.

AVCA Division III West Region Coach of the Year Kurt Vlasich, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges 2013 Record: 24-6, 11-5 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Third-year head coach Kurt Vlasich leads his No. 23-ranked Athenas squad to their fifth NCAA Tournament in program history after an impressive 2013 campaign. Taking them all of the way to the SCIAC Championship Match, CMS has been ranked in the top-25 of the AVCA Coaches Poll in every week since the preseason poll was released in August. They began the season on a nine-match winning streak then after a loss to Pomona-Pitzer, rattled off another 10 in a row to cement their status in a competitive SCIAC. Under his guidance, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps had a strong offense ranking fifth in the nation averaging 13.02 assists per set. Defensively, he coached junior libero Megan Coleman to her first AVCA All-Region Award after she averaged 5.75 digs per set. This marks Vlasich's first AVCA West Region Coach of the Year honor.
