The Flyers are 13-11-7 on the year and are riding a five-game winning streak after defeating the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 on Thursday night. The Flyers have won all five games in regulation, putting together such a run for the first time since winning six in a row in regulation from Oct. 26-Nov. 11, 2010. This is the third of seven games in 12 days for the Flyers before the Christmas break and the first of two in a row against the Western Conference. The Flyers have played 21 games against Western Conference teams – the most of any team in the Eastern Conference – and after these next two games will only have seven games remaining against that half of the league. Their homestand continues on Saturday when they host the .

FLYERS VS. STARS This is the first of two meetings between the Flyers and Stars this season. The Flyers will be in Dallas on March 27 as part of their final Western Conference road trip of the season.

The Flyers have lost four of their last five games against the Stars, with the win in that span coming as part of their 10-game winning streak back on Dec. 10 of last season. Last time the teams met was almost exactly one year ago, on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 in Dallas, which was a 3-1 win for the Stars that ended that same streak.

Prior to this stretch of five games where Dallas has gotten the better of the Flyers, there was a run of nine games where the Flyers were 8-1 against the Stars from Nov. 2008 through Oct. 2014.

2016-17 RECAPS

Saturday, December 10 – Flyers 4, Dallas 2 at Wells Fargo Center: Brayden Schenn recorded a hat trick, the second of his career, and tied a franchise record by scoring all three goals on the power play to push the Flyers past the Stars. The Flyers won in come-from- behind fashion yet again after Dallas took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Devin Shore 7:30 into the contest. Schenn’s first goal tied the score with 2:42 left in the period. The score stayed knotted until Shore struck again just past the halfway point of the third. But Schenn bagged a second PPG with 3:48 remaining, and then won the game with his third with 2:15 left to go. Jake Voracek finished off a four- point game with a late empty-netter. Steve Mason made 21 saves, while Kari Lehtonen stopped 18 Flyers bids. Stars of the Game: 1 – Brayden Schenn; 2 – Jake Voracek; 3 – Devin Shore.

Saturday, December 17 - Dallas 3, Flyers 1 at American Airlines Center: Taylor Leier opened the scoring with his first NHL goal, but the Flyers couldn’t get anything else past Antti Niemi and dropped a 3-1 decision to Dallas. Leier’s goal came with 3:16 left in the first period, but was followed by goals by Radek Faska 4:48 into the second period and then one from Adam Cracknell 2:27 into the third. Jordie Benn wrapped the game with an empty netter with 18 seconds left. Steve Mason made 25 saves in the loss, while Niemi stopped 31. Stars of the Game: 1- Antti Niemi; 2 – Radek Faska; 3 – Adam Cracknell.

He led the Flyers to a record of 254-131-73-28-22 for a points percentage of .614 and made the playoffs in all three complete seasons at the helm of the club, including a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2003-04. NOTES OF THE NIGHT Per the NHL statistical database, the Flyers have become just the fifth team in NHL history to win five or more consecutive games immediately following a winless stretch of at least 10 games. The other teams:

San Jose: winless in 10 from Nov. 5-30, 2005, then won 6 from Dec. 2-16, 2005 Chicago: winless in 13 from March 29 – April 23, 1995, then won 5 from April 25 – May 3, 1995 Calgary: winless in 11 from Jan. 5-26, 1993, then won 5 from Jan. 28-Feb. 10, 1993 Toronto: winless in 11 from Jan. 15 – Feb. 11, 1967, then won 7 from Feb. 12-26, 1967

The Flyers have taken a total of 10 minor penalties in their last six games, with no more than two in any of them. They have killed off nine of the 10 shorthanded situations from those penalties in that time. Before this run, the Flyers had taken two or fewer minors in just four of the first 25 games of the season.

The Flyers have gone two games without a PPG after scoring at least one in three straight, although they’ve had just three power play bids in those last two games. They are 4-for-16 (25 pct) on the power play during this five-game winning streak; they were 4-for-30 (13.3 pct) during the preceding 10-game winless streak.

The Flyers continue to have the fewest 5-v-5 goals against in the league this season with 45. They are at a plus-13 goal differential at 5-on-5, which was fourth-best in the league prior to last night’s games.

Brian Elliott has earned the win in all five games of this streak, posting a 1.60 GAA and a .947 save percentage in that time. He was named the NHL’s 3rd Star of the Week after going 3-0-0 last week with a 1.67 GAA and .954 sv%. Elliott earned his 200th career win in Vancouver on Thursday.

Claude Giroux has four goals and nine assists for 13 points in the last 11 games. His 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points ranked him 17th in the league in scoring entering last night’s games. Giroux is in his sixth season as captain of the Flyers, having taken the role at the start of the shortened 2012-13 season. He passed Dave Poulin earlier this season to become the second-longest-tenured captain in Flyers history, with his 403rd game in the role coming tonight. Only Bob Clarke, who was captain for a total of 610 games, has served longer.

Sean Couturier has already tied his career high with 15 goals this season. He has 30 points, leaving him nine short of his career high of 39 points through just 30 games.

Jake Voracek was tied for the NHL lead with 31 assists entering yesterday’s games. He has eight assists in the last five games and at least one point in 10 of his last 13.

Ivan Provorov has played 25:01 per game this season, which is 14th in the league. He has played more this season than any other NHL player under the age of 25 and he ranks second among all players age 26 or younger, behind only Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
