Organization Profile:

Since 1970 we have been located in the beautiful Fraser Valley on 120 acres with over 500 animals and 140 species. The Greater Zoo is privately owned and is an accredited zoo within ’s Accredited and Aquariums (CAZA), which is a non-profit organization established to promote the welfare of animals and encourage the advancement of education, conservation and science.

Our mission is to engage visitors in recreational, educational and conservation- oriented activities about animals and the zoo environment, to promote respect for and connectedness with the natural world.

ANIMAL CARE

Department: Animal Care Department Needed immediately

Animal Health Technician – permanent full-time

Responsibilities:

Include clinical support, laboratory protocols and analyses, diagnostics and medical treatment, assessing animal physical and nutritional requirements, equipment and inventory maintenance and completing and upkeep of medical records.

Requirements:

 Animal Health Technologist Diploma or equivalent combination of related training and experience required.  Minimum three years of technical experience and a minimum of two years exotic animal experience or equivalent.

1  Current experience and knowledge of natural history, principles of animal behavior, preventative medicine and general animal husbandry required.  Must demonstrate good time management skills, including flexibility, creativity, and responsibility in use of time.  Experience with multiple taxonomic groups (e.g., carnivores, birds, hoof stock, reptiles) preferred.

Description:

The AHT is responsible for providing medical services to the entire GVZoo animal collection, to promote their health and welfare, under the direction of the GVZoo Veterinarian (contracted) and the Animal Care Manager. In addition, the AHT oversees the operation of the Animal Care Complex including hospitalized and quarantined animals, as well as administrative duties for medical/animal records and staff supervision. The applicant must also have good communication skills to work as a member of a team, as well as with the public when required.

This is a permanent full-time position. Schedule will vary. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays, and have the ability to lift up to 75 lbs. Benefits package is available after one year of service.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

Department: Marketing & Communications Department

Marketing Coordinator – Seasonal Full-time

2 Responsibilities:

The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for maintaining all forms of social media, assisting with marketing and advertising, overseeing the front office day- to-day requests, overseeing the front admission staff, and collaborating with all departments as needed.

Requirements:

 Must be enrolled in a colleague or university or recent graduate who intends to pursue a career in the marketing, public relations or communications field.  Must be outgoing, enthusiastic, be able to multi-task, good team player and be an excellent communicator.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, second language is an asset.  Knowledgeable in Microsoft Word and Excel, and Photoshop.  Knowledgeable in social networking channels.

Description:

 Responsible for daily posts/tweets to all applicable social media outlets  Coordinating special events, logistics and research  Assisting with graphic design of advertisement and marketing materials (including taking photos and videos)  Website updates and marketing the Zoo’s message  Attending tradeshow or events as required  Assisting with the coordination and writing of Press Releases and Blog.  Processing of donation requests and general administrative duties

3 EDUCATION

Department: Education & Tour Needed immediately

Education and Tour Facilitator – Seasonal Full-time

Job Summary:

Needed immediately, the Zoo Education and Tour Department is looking for an energetic Education and Tour Facilitator.

Responsibilities:

 Driving and narrating the Safari Express Miniature Train  Assisting with educational programs  Facilitating birthday parties and special events  Assisting with Junior Zoologist Camps  Conducting interpretive talks  Facilitating sleepovers and evening programs  Miscellaneous projects from Education Manager or other Managers  General cleaning and maintenance duties as required  Ordering of any necessary supplies and tools for Education and Tour department  Other duties as required

Requirements:

 Valid BC Drivers License  Consent for disclosure of criminal record information  Excellent customer service skills  Previous training or experience related to wildlife conservation and/or education preferred  Ability to work as a team member and independently  Energetic and enthusiastic  Occupational First Aid Level 1 an asset

4 FRONT ADMISSIONS

Admission Booth personnel – casual part time

Job Summary:

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic, reliable and flexible team player to join our front admission personnel!

Responsibilities:

 Customer service representatives must provide outstanding customer service to our guests by being polite, friendly, respectable and knowledgeable.  Duties include: greeting guests, handling & balancing cash, answering phones and working outside with the public.  Must be a strong team player and able to work in a smaller spaced area with team mates.

Must be willing to work weekends and holidays, and able to work between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.
