The Bishop’s Corner – Steubenville Youth Conference 2018

My Dear Fellow-Catholics:

From the 12th to the 16th of July a group of our youth took part in the Steubenville Youth Conference in the USA. I would

like to share with you some of their testimonies so that you might feel the spirit of the meeting and hopefully be inspired by that Spirit.

“This is my third time and it was as life-changing as the past two times. This conference has allowed me to finally feel and start understanding what it means to be loved. I leave this Conference still struggling with self-love but starting to love myself as God loves me.”

“This is my first year going to the Steubenville Conference. I am so glad that my parents convinced me to go on

this trip, as it was a truly life-changing and amazing experience that I wouldn’t be able to experience anywhere

else.”

“This Conference allowed me to understand all of what it is to be Catholic, as it was all explained in a way which was easy for me and other teens to understand.”

“I had so much fun and was able to reach deep down and connect to God. I have never had the opportunity to worship God the way I did on this trip. I wanted to go to Mass. I wanted to worship Jesus and had an amazing time doing so. I had the opportunity to experience adoration and, to be honest, I have never felt anything so powerful in my life before.”

“If our group was larger, it would be better because more people will get to experience this amazing Conference. The amount of youth that attend and are as passionate about God is heart moving.”

“Personally, I loved the Conference. One thing I personally wasn’t too happy about was that we sang a bit too much, but that is only my opinion.”

“This year was my first time attending the Conference and I can definitely say that I will be coming back next Summer. My favourite parts were Adoration, the music and just the environment of the Conference in general.”

“I must say it was amazing to feel part of a community and to learn new ways to deepen my faith and relationship with God. Although I’m a senior and heading to Canada in September, I’d love to see it continue for other people to experience this truly awesome retreat and maybe even something in Bermuda so we don’t have to wait for the yearly experience.”

Is this not awesome? This is why I firmly believe that our Diocese should continually invest in creating for our youth various opportunities to experience the universality and diversity of our Church.

Have a lovely Sunday and a great Cup Match week! Bishop Wes
