The traverse of the Cosmiques ridge is the ideal way to start technical mountaineering. The variety of situations and terrain allows you to tackle different techniques. Rope walking, abseiling, mixed and rock climbing, walking on a ridge. The environment is spectacular, between the vertiginous north face of the Aiguille du Midi and the Three Mont Blancs which dominate with their glacial mass.

DESCRIPTION Starting from the Aiguille du Midi (3842m), the Cosmiques ridge is a fun and varied mixed ridge route in the sumptuous setting of the Vallée Blanche. The route starts near the Cosmiques hut (3613m) which is quickly reached by a glacier walk along the Aiguille du Midi ridge. It combines rocky terrain, abseiling and short climbing sections including the famous 5 meter crack on a smooth wall. Depending on the snow conditions, the route can be done with or without crampons. The Cosmiques ridge is the most famous ridge run in the Mont Blanc Massif and after a final unusual passage, it will take you to the terrace of the Aiguille du Midi. It is aimed at people wishing to learn and progress on mixed ridge routes and who have previous experience in crampon climbing. Initiation or progression to mixed ridge routes in rocky terrain, abseiling and short climbing sections.

LEVEL REQUIRED This trip requires experience with a previous level of cramponing.

EQUIPMENT TO BRING § Picnic lunch Bring a picnic for lunch, some food and a minimum of one liter of water for the day. § Clothing and equipment Warm clothing for the high mountains, walking trousers, technical underwear, fleece and windproof jacket (Gore-Tex type), cap, gloves, gaiters, sunglasses (index 4), sun cream, water bottle (minimum 1 liter). § Technical equipment Mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axe, helmet, harness, screw carabiner.
