CLOWN/HELPING HANDS MINISTRY

Our Youth Group is an amazing group of people. I was so impressed as I watched the Youth Group pray before the Blessed Sacrament at Borromeo Seminary and then listen to a charismatic speaker. As we drove back from the Seminary, one could sense the Youth had really felt the impact of the message to put Christ in their daily lives and spread the Good News of love and forgiveness. I was impressed to see the joy they had experienced from this gathering. This group will be the future of our ministry and I know God will guide them so that we can continue serving those in need for a long time. I continue to pray, “Oh God, let all the homeless know that you will keep them warm in your heart. Let all the hungry know that You will feed them in spirit. Let all those who suffer the loss of someone know that You will console them. Help all those who think you have abandoned them know that you are with them.” GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME. ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD. Thank you and God bless all those who take care of those in need.

FROM THE PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE

262626 ththth Week in Ordinary Time ––– Respect Life Month Begins: Today’s readings remind us how we are to choose how to live and respect our life and the life of others. We are merely stewards, entrusted with the gifts and talents that God gave us; Co-creators with God to insure a path of goodness and justice. There are people who do not make the correct choices for themselves or their child/ren. We hope and pray, like in the Gospel, they have a change of heart and turn their heart always toward God.

In our world today we are confronted with a lot of “individual” choices or people that feel that their rights are the only rights. Communal, or society choices don’t seem to be of much concern. Francis has reawakened the conversation about making the good choices for all parts of life, from conception to natural death, as a way to remember that we are part of the Body of Christ, Saint Paul’s theology, and we are interconnected, whether we like it or not. We pray for people to always choose life, to choose the good for the common good. We pray for minds to change in the conversation about life issues – to allow all children to be born, to allow God to choose when a person is to be taken to eternal life, to hope that all will be treated with dignity and respect, whether in prison or the person trying to find sanctuary in a new country. We may not agree on the approach, but we hopefully all agree that we are all God’s people. And as Saint Paul reminds us in the letter to the Philippians today, “Do nothing out of selfishness.” And, “[let us be] in the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing:” Let us glorify God – and therefore respect God in one another!

Preparing for Taste of the TownTown---- November 11: Kathy Pohlhammer and Chris Hart, our team leaders for Taste of the Town, have shared with me the exciting new and returning restaurants that are coming to our special event, Saturday November 11. Here is the list, so far- with more to come: • Alley Cat • Cheese Shop • Parallax • Mama Roberto's • Charlotte Bechara Catering • Corbos • Maxis • Rustic Grill • The Cabin • Lyndhurst Grill • Burntwood Tavern • SSS Where can you help? Sell the Anniversary Raffle Tickets – we have tons in the front office too. Silent auction items are needed. Your registration for the events is a must! And promote, promote, promote! This is our fall fundraiser for the school, with a portion specifically going to the Arts – a huge component of our award winning school.

JOIN THE TEAM: It’s fall recruitment time. In case you missed Ministry Fair, I encourage you to look at our ministries (especially on our website) and see where your talents and gifts may be shared. Meanwhile, please consider assisting in some of the liturgical ministries: lector, communion minister, usher, join for an hour of prayer each day and our Community at Prayer ministry. Come to see one of the or ministers in the sacristy, 20 minutes beforehand and we will give you “on the training” and some catechesis too. One benefit for being a liturgical minister: the best parking spots!

12:15 p.m. Weekday Mass Assistance: We are pleased that a community has returned to celebrate Mass weekdays at 12:15 p.m. Most who attend this Mass are not parishioners. I would like to invite parishioners and non- parishioners to assist Laura and the priests with the Mass as a regular team of lectors, communion minister and sacristan (getting things ready and cleaning up). Would you be available for some time to this Mass, even if you do not regular attend it? We will help you to be ready for these ministries too.

Relics: We had 25 people attend the recent tour of the church. I was edified that so many were interested, but especially in the . We loan our relics out like a library, for those who need spiritual benefit, preparing for surgery or health care or other items. Let me know and, like a library, we will loan you our parish relics of Saints Paschal Baylon, Paul, Peter Julian Eymard and a few others.

Let us continue to pray for each other!

In Christ our ,

Reverend John Thomas Lane, SSS, SPB Class of ‘79 Pastor
