FARMINGTON, Utah (November 10, 2020) – Eastern Washington senior guard Jacob Davison has been tabbed the 2020-21 Big Sky Men’s Preseason MVP to headline a talented group of six players on the Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team. The team was se- lected by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors and select media.

A unanimous preseason selection, Davison is coming off a junior campaign where he averaged a team-high 18.4 points per game to rank fourth in the league. The Long Beach, Calif., native also averaged 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 45 percent from the floor. Davi- son captured all-conference recognition for the second time in March with an All-Big Sky Second Team nod after helping the Eagles to a regular season crown.

Davison is joined on the preseason all-conference team by Eastern Washington’s Kim Aiken Jr., Montana’s Michael Steadman, Montana State’s Jubrile Belo, Northern Arizona’s Cameron Shelton and Northern Colorado’s Bodie Hume.

Hume was also named an All-Big Sky Second Team honoree last season after posting 13.9 points per game. The junior guard ranked sec- ond in the league with 2.6 three-pointers per game for 80 on the season.

Aiken Jr., Belo and Shelton were selected to the All-Big Sky Third Team as sophomores a season ago.

Aiken Jr. ranked third for the Eagles in scoring with 13.3 points per game while leading the conference with 9.7 rebounds and ranking 41st nationally with 12 double-doubles. He added 1.7 steals and 2.5 three-pointers per contest to rank in the top five of the Big Sky.

In his first season with the Bobcats, Belo was one of the top big men in the league with 13.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, ranking in the top 10 in the conference in rebounding. He came in fourth in blocks with 1.2 per game.

Shelton was one of just four players in the league last season to rank in the top 10 In both scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. The junior guard finished fourth in the Big Sky with 4.4 assists and fifth with 1.5 steals.

Montana incoming transfer Michael Steadman rounds out the preseason team. During his time at San Jose State, Steadman led the squad with 13.2 points and 8.5 boards.

Northern Colorado took third in the media poll with 222 points and two first-place votes with Big Sky Preseason All-Conference selection Bodie Hume returning for the Bears.

Montana State totaled 200 points for fourth in the media poll, ahead of Weber State’s 183 points for a place in the top five. Southern Utah (173), Portland State (147), Northern Arizona (143), Sacramento State (93), Idaho State (86) and Idaho (50) round out the poll.

EASTERN WASHINGTON’S LEGANS TABBED #BIGSKYMBB COACH OF THE YEAR

BOISE, Idaho (March 10, 2020) – After leading Eastern Washington to its first Big Sky regular season title in five seasons, Shantay Legans has been named the 2019-20 Big Sky Coach of the Year as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Legans’ Eagles claimed the program’s first outright Big Sky title in 16 years after finishing 16-4 in conference play to capture the No. 1 seed in the Big Sky Championship.

Eastern Washington swept the season series against seven Big Sky opponents, riding a seven-game win streak into the postseason.

Behind three All-Big Sky selections including the league’s MVP Mason Peatling, Eastern Washington collected the program’s most Big Sky wins in school history while posting the second-most overall wins (23) since becoming an NCAA Division I member in 1983-84.

Legans becomes the fifth Eastern Washington coach to earn the Big Sky’s top honor, the most recent being Jim Hayford in 2014-15.
