Dallas Zine Party brings artists together This year’s event provides opportunity for networking, inspiration and making friends.

BY ARIANA VERA The Shorthorn staff The Dallas Zine Party is bringing the zine commu- nity together for its second year. A zine is a small book usually made on a copy ma- chine. Randy Guthmiller, founder of the Dallas Zine Party, describes zines as a DIY version of a magazine. Guthmiller, said merchants and artists will display and sell zines and micro-pub- lications from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Central Track. There will be DJs, coloring books and free beer, hot dogs and tofu dogs. Guthmiller said that the zine community is becom- ing more recognized. “It’s super trendy, we wear overalls,” Guthmiller said with a laugh. Guthmiller noted the emergence of the zine com- munity in popular cul- ture by referencing Frank Ocean’s Boys Don’t Cry zine, which accompanied a late and anticipated release Courtesy: Scott Wayne McDaniel of an album this month.
