Bank teams up with Food For The Poor

Home ownership for the disadvantaged across the region continues to be a major challenge. However, one of the most transformational projects undertaken in Jamaica in 2017 to provide homes for its citizens brought hope to at least 10 persons and all with support from CIBC FirstCaribbean. The bank provided J$4.6M to fund 10 homes for needy families. The homes were constructed by Food For The Poor (FFTP) Jamaica which aims to build 100 houses by year end for Jamaicans desperately in need of shelter. The sponsorship of the houses follows a donation by the bank in May in the lead up to the FFTP annual 5K Run/Walk in Kingston, which raises funds for the construction of the houses. In addition to the funds, staff volunteered their time and labour to assist in construction of the home. Managing Director, Nigel Holness noted that it is not just Jamaica about giving money but that the real satisfac- tion comes in giving of one’s time, talent and skill. The team worked alongside professional masons, brick layers and journeymen on the construction site. The result had an ecstatic Dassett Williams, the new home owner, beaming from ear to ear.
