I currently represent Stowupland and Creeting St Peter as Mid Suffolk District Councillor for Stowupland ward. To reduce the number of MSDC councillors, there is a need for an enlargement of the Stowupland ward and suggest that the new ward be made up of the parishes of Stowupland, Creeting St Peter and Earl Stonham. There are many current links between these parishes, not least the catchment area for the Primary School situated in Stowupland. Residents in the three parishes attend functions and are members of clubs and organisations in the three villages. Earl Stonham and Creeting St Peter use the Stowupland Post Office, butchers shop and farm shop, and fish shop and Chinese takeaway. Stowupland and Earl Stonham are villages on A1120 and share common traffic safety concerns and seek remedies. Indeed, these two are the only villages on the length of A1120 between A14 and A140. The three villages are linked by well-used Public Rights of Way. Many of the concerns I hear from residents of Stowupland and Creeting St Peter are similar - public transport, lorries on village roads, vehicle speeds on narrow roads with no footpaths, rural services in general. Residents of Stowupland and Creeting St Peter strongly wish to remain independent of and are opposed to being subsumed into the town, especially if this would result in a multi-member ward. This would likely result in elected members focussing on urban issues to the detriment of any rural parishes which might become part of a ward with a large number of electors.
