ENVIRONMENT We know how important it is to look after our planet for our future generations, which is why we love being members of the Woodland Trust Carbon Capture Scheme. In the production of our Tide Collection magazines 16m2 of native woodland is created every month.

The Carbon Capture Scheme helps us mitigate our carbon emissions by planting trees right here in the UK. We’ve helped fund the planting of 250,000 already! Each tree planted will grow into a vital carbon store, helping us reduce our environmental impact.

The UK is of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. Working with Woodland trust helps us to protect the precious wildlife habitat that remains and plant the trees needed to create new homes for creatures big and small.

There’s a great new Museum book being launched in September, based on a hitherto unseen and unpublished collection of letters from the Lincolne family, the most prosperous shopkeepers in Victorian Halesworth, full of local gossip, but mixed with poignant personal stories. More of that in next month’s Hoot.

Then there is the excitement of our partnership with Wissett Old Chapel in a community research project to explore more of the history of that remarkable building, just on our doorstep. We can already say that there is nothing quite like it anywhere else in the country: a 500-year old building converted quietly and impressively over 400 years ago into a chapel for those whose religion differed from that of the Church of , using local craftsmen whose work is still to this day largely unchanged; patched up here and there it is true, but if those who came here to worship at the end of the 17th century were able to return it would still be entirely recognisable, its atmosphere unspoiled.

But first there is summer (though we may have thought this year it would never come). When the kids turn bored and are lost for something to do, bring them up to the Museum in the Station. Hello again readers, it’s been a while! We have been open since the government eased restrictions in May and are now fully re-opened (with appropriate social distancing and personal responsibility). Over the last year some of our members were able to make some changes to the shed and so we now have benches to sit at, where small- scale crafts can be performed, and we have a hearth for firing jewellery and other small items. See the photos below of our new interior. We are continuing to look at ways to improve our workshop to make it more welcoming for other hobbyists and craftsmen.

We have a new door - wide enough for mobility scooters and secure against the weather, we are looking to automate it as the next step in making it easier for disabled access.

We are now looking at completing jobs held over since the first lockdown and are experiencing a slow ramp up in enquiries for new commissions and also new members, both of which we welcome and look forward to increased volume now that the area is re-emerging from the pandemic.

So please come and see us, have a cuppa and a biscuit and we’ll be happy to show you round.

We are open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am - 2pm and Saturdays 10am - 12pm.

Our phone number is 01986 835905 and our email is [email protected]
