MINIMUM CARLOAD WEIGHTS

Except as otherwise provided, the minimum carload weights specified below are applicable only on shipments loaded in or on cars 36 feet and over in length to but not exceeding 40 feet 6 inches in length, inside wasurement in the case of box, stock or other closed cars, and 48 feet 6 inches in length in the case of open cars.

If cars of greater lengths are loaded the minimum weights provided below shall be increased 5 per cent for each additional foot or fraction thereof over 40 feet 6 inches in the case of box, stock or other closed cars and 48 feet 6 inches in the case of open cars.

Note: Fcr estimated weights to apply on long Squared sawn Timber see below.

(1) Actual weight when less than minimum will be applied on cars when loaded to full visible capacity, but in no case will such cars (loaded to capacity) be accepted on a weight basis less than 10,000 lbs. under minima shown above. This exception will not apply where cars are not loaded to capacity. The term "loaded to full visible capacity" means that the entire space capacity of the car shall be utilized to the fullest extent, and that no more lumber (of ordinary lengths) or other material of the character contained in the car, can be loaded therein.

Flat and Gondola Cars, when compactly loaded with Lumber, Timber, Poles or Piling, to a height of 13 feet above the top of the rail and to within 90 per cent of the length and width of the floor space of the car, will be considered as loaded to full visible capacity.

These exceptions apply only when shippers certify on original, shipping order and bill of lading over their written signatures that the car is loaded to its full visible capacity. When such certification is not given on shipping receipt or bill of lading the minimum weight provided above will apply.

Waybilling agents will note on the waybill: "Car loaded to full visible capacity as per tariff and so certified to by shipper". Page 18

MIXED CARLOADS

(a) Mixed carloads, consisting of commodities taking Group "A" rates of page 14 of this Supplement, will bu subject to the highest minimum weight provided herein for any commodity in the shipment.

(b) Mixed carloads, consisting of Group "A" and Group "B" commodities, shown on pages 14 & 15 of this supplement, will bo accepted at res- pective rates subject to highest minimum weight for any article in the shipment.

LONG SQUARED SAWN TIMBER

Long Squared Sawn Timber, requiring two or more open cars for transportation (When shippers furnish certified statement of itemized sizes of timber loaded on oars), will be carried at estimated weight of 3.2 lbs. per foot (See Note), subject to a minimum weight of 33,000 lbs. for each car 41 feet 8 inches or under in length, ordered and used. For each car over 41 feet 8 inches in length, but not exceeding 48 feet 6 inches in length, ordered and used, mini- mum weight will be 40,000 lbs. For each oar over 48 feet 6 inches in length, ordered and used, the minimum %eight will be that governing a 48 foot 6 inch car increased 5% for each additional foot or fraction thereof over 48 feet 6 inches. Waybills far such loads should give reference to this Supplement as authority for the billed weights, and cars should not be veighted on track scales in transit.

NOTE: The foregoing estimated weight applies only on long squared sawn timber of same dimension at each end. Track scale weights will apply upon tapered spars, piles,. waney logs or timbers. Page 19
