This socially distant performance will have limited in-person tickets available for both nights. As well as tickets for a multi-camera, “up close and personal” live stream of the Saturday night performance, all of which is now on sale at the Community Arts Center box office. This show is sponsored in part through a partnership with Hudock Capital Group. All CDC and state health recommendations and procedures will be adhered to for this event. “The people’s choice performance has become an annual fundraising event for the Uptown Music Collective,” said Jared Mondell, assistant executive director of the Uptown Music Collective. “This year the Eagles were the community’s top choice after several rounds of voting in the Collective’s 2020 People’s Choice online voting event, winning out by a narrow margin over a virtual who’s who list of modern and classic rock or pop performers. Our students are extremely excited to bring this show to the CAC stage!” This performance will feature the students of the Uptown Music Collective performing a variety of the Eagles' most well-known songs, including Hotel California, Already Gone, Life in the Fast Lane, Desperado, New Kid in Town, Heartache Tonight, and many more. The Eagles were formed in Los Angeles in 1971 by early members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. Over the next ten years the Eagles would shuffle around group members, including bringing in guitarists Don Felder, and Joe Walsh, release six number one albums, win six Grammy awards, and score eighteen top 40 hits, including six that went to number one. Although the Eagles broke up officially in 1980, the group continues to reunite and tour in various incarnations. In 1998 the Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Long Run will feature Collective students who have been diligently preparing for this event for over two months. Along with the music, there will be a professional grade light and sound show organized by the students themselves. As with all Uptown Music Collective performances, the students are not only the performers but also direct the show. There is also a group of younger students, called “Tech Monkeys” who will serve as stage technicians and spotlight operators. The cast for the show is drawn from the Uptown Music Collective’s much-heralded Special Performance Group 1. This show is directed by Uptown Music Collective Seniors Andrew Head (Montoursville Area H.S.) and Maren Snow (Lewisburg Area High School). The show’s leadership committee consists of UMC students Leah Batman (Laurel Springs), Izzy Brumbaugh (WAHS), Molly Chapman (Montoursville Area H.S.), Isabella Cole (Loyalsock Township H.S.), Dominic Fredin (Montoursville Area H.S.), Gabreon Godin (WAHS), Emma Luke (Loyalsock Township H.S.), Cassidy Lutz (Loyalsock Township H.S.), Tyler Noaker, and Gavin Paulhamus (Hughesville Area H.S.). “The Eagles have always had a big impact on me musically throughout my entire life,” said show director, Andrew Head. “Listening to them growing up really gave me a sense of comfort in music, and a sense of happiness. Being able to direct this show is a dream come true, and I am truly excited to be able to bring this amazing band's music to life on the CAC's stage!” Additional partners and sponsors for this performance include Pennsylvania College of Technology, UPMC Susquehanna, Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships, Lycoming College, The Williamsport Sun-Gazette, Woodlands Bank, and Marco Technologies. Media sponsors include 99.3 FM WZXR, and all of Backyard Broadcasting, Lamar Advertising, 92.1 WSQV, NorthCentralPa.com, The Graphic Hive, and Engage Media. Tickets for the performance are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 on performance nights. Tickets for the Saturday night live stream are $15.00. Advance and streaming tickets are only available through the Community Arts Center (Box Office & Website). For details about the show visit uptownmusic.org or call 570-329-0888. Also, check out Collective’s official Facebook page, as well as other Collective social media outlets for teasers, previews, behind the scenes info, and more from the performance. .

“Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)”—The Eagles (1976) Added to the Registry: 2016 Essay by Marc Eliot (guest post)* The Eagles In 1971, the arrival of The Eagles signaled a major shift in popular musical tastes in America. If Woodstock was the funeral for both the music and the culture of a decade of drugged out, hippie, free love and cultish idealism, the Seventies was the decade of blatant decadence, political cynicism, sexual distrust, and rampant narcissism. No band represented both the rejection of the Sixties and the celebration of the Seventies more than its crown princes, the Eagles. Songs like “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Witchy Woman,” “One of These Nights,” and “Already Gone,” filled with spirited playing, close harmonies and an overlay of the Eagles’ war between the sexes, comprise four of the ten selections included in the initial compilation of Eagles’ hit songs from their first four albums, “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975).” Ironically, although the Eagles’ laid-back sound was bright and natural as Southern California sunshine, none of the original four members were Golden State natives (Don Henley, vocalist, lyricist, drummer, was from Texas, bred on bluegrass and country music; Glenn Frey, vocalist, lyricist, rhythm guitar, pianist, came from the streets of Detroit, influenced by the music of Motown and mentored by Bob Seger; Randy Meisner, on bass, was a veteran bar band night sider out of Nebraska; Bernie Leadon, guitar, mandolin, banjo, was a Minnesotan who loved and loved to play classic country). Each migrated separately to Los Angeles, like lemmings, to The Troubadour, the musical and cultural ground zero club on Santa Monica Boulevard, owned and operated by Doug Weston, who favored putting on his stage country-rock bands and female vocalists.

Med låtar som ”Hotel California”, ”One of These Nights,” ”Desperado”, ”Take It Easy” och ”New Kid In Town”är amerikanerna inte bara countryrockens största band genom tiderna – gruppen har gjort ett antal album som tillhör de bäst säljande alla genrer räknade. Eagles bildades 1971 av Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon och Randy Meisner, som alla då spelade i kompbandet bakom sångerskan Linda Ronstadt. Debutalbumet “Eagles” släpptes den 1 januari 1972. Med ”One of These Nights” kom 1975 det stora internationella genombrottet. Med ”Hotel California” befästes positionen som fixstjärnor. I Sverige kom listgenombrottet 1976 med samlingen ”Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975” respektive nämnda ”Hotel California”. 1977 framträdde man i Sverigedebuten på Gröna Lund i Stockholm inför en publik som inkluderade ABBA:s alla medlemmar. 1979 nåddes den första svenska listettan, med ”The Long Run.” • HEARTACHE TONIGHT a TRIBUTE to the EAGLES! Technical Rider
HEARTACHE TONIGHT A TRIBUTE TO THE EAGLES! Technical Rider Heartache Tonight is a six-piece band; 3 guitars, keys, bass and drums. We travel with our own sound tech who runs 4 sets of wireless in-ear monitors for the singers. We do require 4 boom stands for vocals and 3 floor wedge monitor speakers; 2 for the stage left guitar players and one for center stage. (See Stage Plot) Appropriate mic stands and mic cables for 3 guitar amplifiers and 6-piece drum kit. Direct boxes for keyboards, bass and acoustic instruments. We typically carry all our own microphones and backline gear. Contact Sound Engineer Ron Willhoff at [email protected] for more detailed information. Please provide two 8’ X 8’ X 2’ (or equivalent) risers, one for keyboards and one for drums. (See Stage Plot for placement). If a lighting scheme is available, we prefer a three-color wash for the stage lighting and 6 specials. Please provide a qualified tech to run lights. We’d like the lighting to highlight what’s happening onstage, without being obtrusive. A “ballad” lighting set-up for the more dramatic songs (i.e., Desperado) definitely adds to the experience for the audience. If a projector and screen are available we do have a slide show/backdrop we like to use when feasible. We prefer 3 hours for load-in and sound check under normal circumstances. Please provide the easiest access possible and parking for our Ford Transit van and 5 X 10 trailer. Extra hands for the heavy lifting are always appreciated.

TRACK 1: FROM PIANO BARS TO FIRES (WHY WE HAVE LAWYERS) Fulton Sheen once observed, “[t]he more you look at the clock, the less happy you are.”3 Piano Man4 begins by looking at the clock. “It’s nine o’clock on a Saturday.”5 As “[t]he regular crowd shuffles in,” there’s “an old man” chasing a memory, “sad” and “sweet” but elusive and misremembered.6 There are people who pre- fer “loneliness” to “being alone,” people in the wrong place, people out of time, no matter how much time they might have.7 They all show up at the Piano Man’s bar hoping “to forget about life for a while”8 because, as the song reminds us, sometimes people can find themselves in a place where their life is hard to live with.

  • Joe Walsh Saturday, September 1
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 17, 2012 RIVER ROCK CASINO RESORT & CLASSIC ROCK 101 PRESENT JOE WALSH SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 Richmond, BC – Best known for his popular guitar licks, musician Joe Walsh has entertained the masses and captivated his peers for more than three decades with such classics as “Funk #49”, “Walk Away”, “Life’s Been Good”, “A Life of Illusion” and “Ordinary Average Guy”. Walsh had played with many bands but it wasn’t until 1969 when he joined the Cleveland based power trio, The James Gang that he got a taste of sweet success. The Gang released four albums in the early 70’s … two of which went gold. Joe then decided to head west to Colorado where he put together the trio, Barnstorm in 1972 and released two albums. Still feeling there was something more for him, Joe released his first solo album in 1974. So What proved Joe a legitimate solo act with a limitless career on the horizon. Then in 1976, he was asked by the Eagles to replace guitarist Bernie Leadon bringing a harder rock sound to the group. At the end of the year, they released their fifth studio album, Hotel California which went gold reaching #1 on the Billboard Charts followed by The Long Run (1979) and Eagles Live (1980) reaching Billboard’s #1 and #6 respectively. At the same time, Joe released two solo albums ...You Can’t Argue With a Sick Mind (1976) and But Seriously Folks (1978) which boasted the notorious hit, “Life’s Been Good”. During the 14-year hiatus of the Eagles, Joe focussed on his solo career releasing several albums including There Goes The Neighborhood (1981), The Confessor (1985) and Ordinary Average Guy (1991).

DEPARTAMENTO DE JUSTICIA “Life in the Fast Lane”1: Política de competencia en un panorama de telecomunicaciones en constante cambio MAKAN DELRAHIM Fiscal General Adjunto División de Competencia Departamento de Justicia de los EE. UU.

Neg(oti)ating Fusion: Steely Dan’s Generic Irony by Ethan Krajewski A thesis presented for the B.A. degree with Honors in The Department of English University of Michigan Winter 2018 © 2018 Ethan Patrick Krajewski To my parents for music and language Acknowledgements My biggest thanks go to my advisor, Professor Julian Levinson, as a teacher, mentor, and friend, for helping me think, talk, write, and (most importantly, I think) laugh about seventies rock music. You’ve helped make this project fun in all of its rigor and relaxed despite all of the stress that it’s caused. I’d also like to thank Professor Gillian White for leading our cohort toward discipline, and for keeping us all grounded. Also for her spirited conversations and anecdotes, which proved invaluable in the early stages of my thinking. I wouldn’t be here writing this if it weren’t for Professor Supriya Nair, who pushed me to apply for the program and helped me develop the intellectual curiosity that led to this project. The same goes for Gina Brandolino, who I count among my most important teachers and role models. To the cohort: thank you for all of your help over the course of the year. You’re all so smart, and so kind, and I wish you all nothing but the best. To Ashley: if you aren’t the best non-professional line editor at large in the world, then you’re at least second or third. I mean it sincerely when I say that this project would be infinitely worse without your guidance.
