Information for Participants Rafer Johnson – Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational Friday-Saturday, April 4-5, 2003 Drake Stadium, UCLA

>> Updated information as of March 31, 2003 <<

We have been pleased to accommodate a few last-minute entries for the first Rafer Johnson- Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational, to be held at UCLA’s Drake Stadium on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, 2003. The entry deadline has now passed, the schedule of events has been finalized and entries are now closed.

This document includes a revised time schedule as of March 24 and other important information, so please read it carefully.

Events and entry fees: The complete start lists for both Friday and Saturday are available at www.uclabruins.com. These sheets can be printed as desired, but you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to access these files (this program can be downloaded for free at www.adobe.com).

Several events were re-seeded because of the late entries which were added and the competition has been divided into “Open” and “Invitational” divisions. Open events will take place on Friday only, along with a few Invitational events. The majority of the Invitational events will be held on Saturday.

Please note that several events were seeded only as finals; the schedule for Friday has been extensively revised and the final schedule is attached. Preference for lanes or order were given to the athletes with the best entry marks (based on 2002 or 2003 performances).

Please check the final schedule for the list of events in the Open division on Friday.

A fee for each entry of $10 is required. An entry is into a single event, so the fee for an athlete who competes in the 100 and 200 meters would be $20 in total. For relays, a single fee of $10 per team is required. Checks for entry fees should be made out to the “Regents of the University of ” and are due on either the day before the meet (April 3) or on the day of the qualifying rounds (April 4). Checks may be dropped off at the Information Desk inside the field-level entry to Drake Stadium (off Bruin Walk) on either day and you will receive (1) a receipt and (2) entry tags for your athletes, allowing them access to the field. Non-participating team members such as coaches and managers will receive spectator tickets allowing access to the stands only; field tags will be made available for team medical personnel such as physicians or trainers.

The last day to drop an entry (and not have to pay $10) was Friday, March 28, 2003. Everyone entered is expected to pay the entry fee. Rafer Johnson–Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational Information for Participants, page 2

Format: The attached schedule shows the final list of events. Please note:

< Start-in-lane races up to the 800 meters can accommodate up to nine athletes (UCLA has a nine-lane track).

< In the field events, all competitions (Open and Invitational) will include six throws for all contestants. In the Open division events held on Friday, all throwers will receive six throws in the order specified on the start list. For Invitational events held on Saturday, all participants will take three attempts (jumps or throws) and then the order will be revised and the final three attempts will be made in reverse order of standing after three rounds. Open division marks will not, of course, carry over to Invitational events.
