After a break for the winter holidays the Hoosiers are back in action as they travel to West Lafayette, Ind, for a dual meet against Purdue. The field events will get going with the women’s long jump at 2:00 p.m. and the events on the track HOME meets in All Caps will start at 3:25 p.m. with the men’s 800-meter run. The final event on the track will be the men’s 4X400-meter relay at 4:55 p.m. The Hoosiers had a strong start to the season with the Hoosier Open on Dec. 13-14. Several top-10 marks were set. The Hoosiers were honored for their performances as they swept the men’s and women’s Big Ten Athlete of the Week awards with Arianne Raby and Jordan Gornall earning Track Athlete of the Week honors and Nina Gutermuth and Dylan USTFCCCA RANKINGS Jan. 13 Anderson taking Field Athlete of the Week accolades. Senior Arianne Raby led a Hoosier sweep of the 6 Kentucky 93.45 6 Penn State 83.28 top three places in the women’s 1,000-meter run as she set an IU school record and NCAA leading time in 2:48.46. Sophomore Nina Gutermuth won the 11 South Carolina 55.99 11 Mississippi State 50.29 women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3.80 meters (12-5.5). Gutermuth’s mark is good for ninth best in IU school history 12 Providence 55.71 12 Illinois 50.11 and is the 16th best mark in the NCAA. Freshman Danielle Quinn had an impressive start to her career as she finished in 13 Michigan 53.95 13 Georgia 46.63 14 Dartmouth 50.55 14 Colorado 41.90 second-place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.92 meters (39-1.25). Quinn also finished fourth in the long jump with 15 Mississippi State 50.06 15 Texas 41.80 a mark of 5.42 meters (17-9.5). Fellow freshman Nakel McClinton also had a good day as she finished in fourth-place in 16 Kent State 48.78 16 Mississippi 41.01 the weight throw with a heave of 17.37 meters (56-11.75). Her mark is 10th best in IU school history. 17 Purdue 46.83 17 Arizona 39.69 18 Georgetown 43.10 18 Baylor 39.05 On the men’s side a pair of sophomores from Bloomington had a good start to the season. Jordan Gornall finished 19 Florida State 42.81 19 Virginia Tech 39.02 in second-place in the men’s 1,000-meter, as he clocked a time of 2:24.41 to tie the second fastest time in school 20 Washington 41.88 20 Stanford 38.56 history.     Indoor Track and Field DIVISION I MEN’S Highlights Arkansas claims heptathlon crown in fi nal event, 20th national championship — If Arkansas needed something to kick-start its second day at the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, it got it early from junior Kevin Lazas. In the fi rst event to be decided on the second and fi nal day of the competition, the heptathlon, Lazas came into the concluding 1,000-me- ter race needing to fi nish within about 4.5 points of Wisconsin junior Japheth Cato to claim the title. “I gave it all I had,” Lazas said, who ended the race by falling across the fi nish line in exhaustion. “If I didn’t win, I would be mad, but there was nothing I could have done. I didn’t have anything left.” Thankfully for the Razorbacks, Lazas fi nished just 3.24 seconds behind Cato, enough to win the heptathlon by the slightest of margins (6,175 points-6,165 in the seven-event competition) and claim 10 points for his Razorbacks in the team competition. “We had a really good night last night, and I knew I had to come out and keep it going,” Lazas said. And as the day went on, the top-ranked Razorbacks indeed kept going. When they ended the night by setting a collegiate record in the 1,600-meter relay, they were simply padding the margin of victory on their fi rst NCAA indoor title since 2006. “To get this done, you need a special group of athletes,” said Arkansas head coach Chris Bucknam, who won his fi rst national champion- ship since arriving in Fayetteville in 2009.

The list of honored student-athletes features 100 baseball players, 94 softball players, 147 women’s rowers, 46 men’s and 52 women’s golfers, 47 men’s and 46 women’s tennis athletes, 182 men’s and 241 women’s track and field standouts and 157 men’s (representing ice hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, fencing, rowing and pistol and rifle) and 168 women’s (representing bowling, water polo, ice hockey, fencing, sand volleyball, synchronized swimming, lightweight rowing, lacrosse and pistol and rifle) at-large athletes.
