Radio was still in the Marconi experimental stage in 1908, the last time the Cubs won the World Series. Baseball was not broadcast on radio until 1921. The best example is enjoying multiple airings on CSN Chicago, the first at 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 27. When a one-hour documentary combines Theo Epstein and his Merry Men of Wrigley Field, who can talk as good a game as they play, with the video skills of world-class producers Sarah Lauch and Ryan McGuffey, you have a must-watch production. We all know “what” happened in the Game 7 Cubs victory of the 2016 World Series that turned from potentially the most catastrophic loss in franchise history into its most memorable triumph in just a few minutes in Cleveland. Now, thanks to the sublime re- porting and editing skills of Lauch and McGuffey, we now have the “how” and “why” through the oral history contained in “Reign Men: The Story Behind Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.” Anyone with sense is tired of the endless shots of the 35-and-under bar crowd whooping it up for top sports events. The word here is gratuitous. “Reign Men” largely eschews those images and other “color” shots in favor of telling the story. And what a tale to tell. Lauch and McGuffey, who have a combined 20 sports Emmy Awards in hand for their labors, could have simply done a rehash of what many term the greatest Game 7 in World Series history.

    MARQUEE SPORTS NETWORK ANNOUNCES JON SCIAMBI AS CHICAGO CUBS PLAY-BY-PLAY ANNOUNCER January 4, 2021 CHICAGO – Marquee Sports Network today announced the hiring of Jon “Boog” Sciambi as the Chicago Cubs television play-by-play announcer. Sciambi has served in numerous roles with ESPN since joining the network full- time in 2010, most prominently as the voice of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball for MLB on ESPN Radio, and as the regular play-by-play voice on Wednesday Night Baseball telecasts for ESPN since 2014. During his time at ESPN, Sciambi has contributed to ESPN Radio’s MLB World Series coverage as an on-site studio host, while providing post-game, on-field interviews for ESPN’s SportsCenter. He also has held play-by-play duties for both the College and Little League World Series. His time at the network dates to 2005, when he began doing play-by-play for select college basketball and MLB games, and he has continued in play-by-play for both sports during his tenure at ESPN. In addition to his play-by-play duties at Marquee, he will continue to serve as a multi- platform broadcaster for ESPN. Sciambi previously served as the lead play-by-play television announcer for the Atlanta Braves from 2007-2009 and as the radio voice of the Florida Marlins from 1997-2004. “We are excited to welcome Boog to the Marquee Network and the Cubs organization.     January 15, 2012 Cubs.com Wrigley's right-field bleachers getting patio By: Carrie Muskat CHICAGO -- The Cubs announced the addition of a patio in the right-field bleacher section at Wrigley Field, which will be ready for the 2012 season and create a rooftop-like atmosphere. The Budweiser Patio will include a 75-foot LED sign installed above the right-field wall with the capability to display game information, such as pitch count, photos of players and statistics. It will not have video replay because of the size. The new right-field configuration can handle a group of 150 people, or three groups of 50 each, or may be sold on an individual basis. Cubs team president Crane Kenney said the pricing was still to be determined. "What we're finding both for our suites as well as other parts of the ballpark is that people want to be able to circulate -- you see it on the rooftops," Kenney said Saturday after a business management session at the 27th annual Cubs Convention, where the announcement was made. "[It will be] a place where you can bring clients, move around in the space and not just be fixed," Kenney said. "If I'm in seat [No. 1] and my clients are in seats two through eight, I don't get to talk to the person in seat [No. 8]. It's a chance to circulate." Each section of 50 tickets will include both seated and standing-room-only tickets, and an all-inclusive food and beverage package. The Wrigley Field bleachers underwent a major renovation after the 2005 season when they were expanded and a restaurant was added in the batter's eye.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 11, 2020 2020 INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FIELD MANAGERS EIGHT IL CLUBS TO BE LED BY NEW SKIPPERS THIS SEASON When the International League's 137th season opens on April 9, eight of the circuit’s fourteen teams will have a new manager leading the quest to capture the coveted Governors’ Cup trophy. Only six managers return from the 2019 season, although several of the League’s new field generals bring pre-existing ties to their teams and communities. It is the first time since 2006 that more than half of the circuit’s clubs changed managers during an offseason. The reining IL Manager of the Year Damon Berryhill is the International League’s longest- tenured manager, preparing to begin his fourth season at the helm of the Gwinnett Stripers. Also hoping to get his team back to the postseason is Brady Williams, who took Durham to the finals in his first year with the Bulls in 2019. They will be challenged in the South Division by another returning manager in Norfolk, Gary Kendall. The 2018 IL Manager of the Year, Lehigh Valley’s Gary Jones, will lead the IronPigs once again this season. Like Jones, Brian Esposito in Indianapolis is also at the helm for the third straight campaign. IL Hall of Famer Billy McMillon will manage the Red Sox for the franchise’s final season at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket. Two men have found themselves moving from a coach’s role to the manager’s chair in 2020. Pennsylvania-native Doug Davis (former Syracuse manager) takes over in Scranton/Wilkes- Barre after three seasons coaching, while in Columbus, Ohio-native Andy Tracy is the new manager after helping lead the Clippers to the 2019 Governors’ Cup title as hitting coach.
