  • Musicians Surprise Fans with Election Reminder Calls
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MUSICIANS SURPRISE FANS WITH ELECTION REMINDER CALLS Fans can request election reminder phone calls from rock stars at HeadCount.org; Most calls will be recorded but a few lucky fans will get the real thing New York, NY – Some of the biggest names in music will be hitting the phones over the next week to help get the vote out, calling randomly-selected fans and chatting about the upcoming election. Willie Nelson, ?uestlove of the Roots, and Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips are among the dozen musicians involved with the “Pledge to Vote” campaign staged by HeadCount, a nonpartisan organization that promotes electoral participation. Each artist recorded reminders that will be sent to fans before Election Day via automated phone calls. In addition, most artist participants will be making live calls - surprising fans who expect to only hear a recording. “Let’s get some folks cranked up about this,” said Bob Weir, a HeadCount board member who will also be personally calling dozens of voters. “It’s so important that people, particularly young people, are paying attention and voting so a bunch of cranky old folks don’t steal their future. Hopefully getting a call from a familiar voice will be motivation.” Weir is currently touring with his former Grateful Dead bandmate Phil Lesh under the name Furthur. HeadCount co-chair Marc Brownstein, of The Disco Biscuits, will personally phone dozens of fans from HeadCount's Manhattan office the night before the election, Monday Nov. 1st. Meanwhile, video cameras will be rolling and all the calls will be streamed live on the Web at www.HeadCount.org/Blog and www.Relix.com starting at 9 PM ET.

Led by pacesetters such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Bobby Bare, artists in Nashville and Austin demanded the creative freedom to make their own country music, different from the pop-oriented sound that prevailed at the time. This exhibition also examines the cultures of Nashville and fiercely independent Austin, and the complicated, surprising relationships between the two. Artwork by Sam Yeates, Rising from the Ashes, Willie Takes Flight for Austin (2017) 3-6 Introduction 3 This interdisciplinary lesson guide allows classrooms to explore the exhibition Outlaws and Armadillos: Country’s Roaring ‘70s on view at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum® from May 25, 2018 – February 14, 2021. Students will examine the causes and effects of the Outlaw movement through analysis of art, music, video, and nonfiction texts. In doing so, students will gain an understanding of the culture of this movement; who and what influenced it; and how these changes diversified country music’s audience during this time.

  • “Wish I Didn't Know Now What I Didn't Know Then”
“Wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then” This comes from the song “Against the Wind” written by Bob Seger in 1979 and release on the album of the same name. Bob Seger had many hits during the 70s, but this line and song always stuck in my memory kinda like “Oh yeah life goes on Long after the thrill of livin is gone” Mellencamp’s Jack and Diane. Always loved the story telling and imagery in his songs and even if you didn’t know the words that blues/rock beat would hook you in: Hollywood Nights – I remember driving the length of Sunset boulevard past the famous Hollywood sign and thinking this is what this song looks like. That accent on the snare drum and driving beat just works. The insane pace of life in Hollywood, in LA. Mainstreet – That beautiful guitar lick provided by one of ‘The Swampers’ and the imagery of a small town mainstreet: Sometimes even now When I’m feeling lonely and beat I drift back in time And I find my feet Down on Mainstreet Roll Me Away – “Took a bead on the Northern plains and just rolled that power on” See Roadtrip link below – Great Drive’n tune! Bob Seger had a long and mutually productive relationship with the “Swampers” the M.S.R.S. Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. The Swampers guitar players were instrumental in Bob Seger’s recording of what is probably his most famous song “Old Time Rock and Roll”. It turns out he didn’t write this song! The Swampers recorded this with the writer, but it just wasn’t working.
