Quite simply, data. Data Denver locations | Christopher Storms from your POS, data from tracking coupons, data from Rise! A Breakfast Place, Fort Collins | David Daggett sales reports. It may take a few extra minutes to set it up and Z Cuisine, Denver | Dominique Falkner pull the reports, but wouldn’t you rather know if that marketing campaign is making you money or costing you? And think of what you could do with that information besides deciding if you should continue the program or not.

Even if you don’t have time to set it up, your POS vendor will be able to either walk you through it or set it up for you. The extra money it will cost to have them do this will at least give you the ability to pull the information…after all, knowledge is power.

There are business intelligence (BI) companies in the marketplace that can also help you determine if your marketing campaigns are working. One such company, Upserve, will track specific campaigns, like Restaurant Week or Groupons, and give you a report to show you how many people came in, average spend, average tip, etc. and probably the most important statistic they give is who came back and how much they spent. BOOM! Now, that is useful information right there. You can tell if those campaigns are driving enough revenue that you should continue, change them or do more of them.

Between your POS system, online reviews and BI companies you have more information at your fingertips than ever before. Having that data may keep you from doing another drastic marketing campaign and doing a strategic one instead.

ATTENTION - NEW LABOR LAW POSTING REQUIREMENTS

There are new posting requirements that all employers must comply with IMMEDIATELY. Please read the following changes to ensure that your business is in compliance with these posting requirements.

FEDERAL POSTER New language is required IMMEDIATELY on two federal posters. Employers can simply print off the new language and post it over the current language on the federal labor law poster. This will keep your business in compliance. • New language for the required Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) poster includes regulatory changes on salary levels for exempt employees. CLICK HERE • New language for the Employee Polygraph Protection Act (EPPA) poster includes removing the violation penalty limits. CLICK HERE Simply print the new signs and place over the current poster.

COLORADO POSTER Colorado law changed during this legislative session with regards to reasonable accommodations for pregnant workers.

• As of August 10, employers are required to provide notification to all NEW employees, at the time of hire, the accommodations required by law for pregnant workers. • By December 8, 2016 all CURRENT employees must be given the notification as well. • Additionally, the employer is required to post a notification (or “poster”), in a conspicuous place (preferably where all the other labor law posters are), outlining what accommodations are required to be offered to pregnant workers. • The “poster” can be the same notification that is provided individually to each employee. • The CRA has worked with an attorney to provide our members with draft of the required notification and a signature page that employers can use to verify employees have been notified of this new requirement. CLICK HERE for a draft of this notification.

Finally, there may also be changes made to the official language for Colorado labor law posters around discrimination of pregnant employees, but that language has not been finalized. When it is, we will provide another page that our members can print off and place over their current Colorado labor law posters in order to stay in compliance until new posters are ordered next year.

WORKPLACE VIOLENCE: IT’S MORE COMMON THAN YOU THINK By Pinnacol Safety Group | pinnacol.com

A nightclub in Orlando. A church in Charleston. A movie theater in Aurora. A school in Littleton. We’ve all seen the headlines and been gripped by the same fear: if that level of violence can happen there, it can happen any- where. Usually we think of these as places serving a particular function—fun, worship, or school—but each of the locations was also a workplace, making these acts a form of workplace violence.

Because of the increasing number of large-scale incidents like these, many employers have begun planning and even conducting emergency preparedness training for active-shooter type scenarios. This preparation is vital. However, a Bureau of Justice Statistics’ study found that 80 percent of workplace violence could be characterized as simple, non-life threatening assault.

In fact, you may not know that workplace violence is broadly defined as any act or threat of physical, verbal, or psychological aggression. Threats considered workplace violence might be direct or veiled and come in verbal, written, and electronic form or even gestures.
