King Menachem, Israel (2 Kings 15:16-22) • Ruthless king (v. 16) • Hosea warned that this would happen! (See Hosea 13:16) • He did that which was evil in the sight of God. (v. 18) • He did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam. (ca. 200 years.) - The sin of Jeroboam became tradition! • Pul (Tiglath-Pileser), king of Assyria attacks. • Menachem taxes Israel to pay off Pul. (about 37 tons of silver). (NOTE: Pul left but returned 20 years later.) (Compromise on the political level seldom works!!) • He reigned cruelly for 10 years and died a natural death.
