Stamina touch typing tutor

Stamina is a software application that teaches you how to touch type.

Who would benefit? Stamina touch typing tutor benefits those students who have difficulties with reading, writing and spelling. It supports general literacy learning and has been shown to improve reading, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Lessons designed for mastering certain keys (e.g. ) Work with real text to achieve unreal speeds Choice of entering text from an external file Lesson editor. Getting Started

1. Click on the Writing icon on MyStudyBar and select Stamina – touch typing tutor.

2. The pop up interface of Stamina touch typing tutor will appear.

3. Before you get started with a lesson, check out the Help section

4. The most important section of the help section is SOS…This is an extremely helpful, help file with instructions on correct finger position on the keyboard and full instructions of how to use Stamina, should you get stuck this should be the first place you should go.

Tutorials

There are a number of tutorials to select from, to select a tutorial click on the Mode Menu.

Lesson 1 This is a tutorial on Key layout.

Phrases 2 This is a tutorial using phrases.

The other modes section provides more practise, in getting to grips with Letters and All Characters. It also enables you to upload your own files to practise with.

Letters (from the Phrases)

This lesson gives you more practises with the letters used in the previous Phrases Lesson.

All Characters This lesson gives you practise with the All Characters on the keyboard.

External Text File

Stamina can create lessons from your own External files. These need to be .txt files.

1. To add an external file select Mode > Other Modes >External text file.

2. Then click Choose an external file...

3. Browse for your text file and click Open.

4. Then click OK.

5. Click the Start button and enjoy your tutorial.

Lessons can be navigated sequentially by using the Previous/Next lesson links in the Mode Menu.

Edit Lessons and Phrases

1. To edit lessons or add phrases select Mode then either Lesson editor… or Add phrases… options.

2. The Lesson editor allows you to add categories, new lessons, and new submenus, remove lessons, edit lessons, change lesson order or delete them.

The Options Menu

Layout

The Layout option allows you to select between the default UK keyboard layout and the English keyboard layout.

There are two keyboard layouts to choose from:

Playlist Option

1. The playlist option enables you to play music while you learn to touch type. To select a play list select Option > Playlist.

2. A pop up box will appear. Here you can add mp3 files, add folders, remove and delete playlists.

3. Use the Next song button to navigate through your playlists and Music volume to increase or decrease the volume.

Settings

1. To personalise your Stamina interface select Options > Settings…

General - The general tab allows you to change the font size, spacing and font/background colour.

Keyboard settings

The keyboard settings allow you to change the width and colour of the keyboard. It also enables you to change the colours of the letters, current letters and finger zones.

Picture Setting The picture setting allows you to add an image as a background to the text, change colours of the clock, user and background. Additionally it is possible to change the height of the interface.
