Welcome to the Balranald Shire
Covering approximately 21,400sq kilometres, Balranald Shire encompasses a diverse natural landscape which includes the world heritage listed Willandra Lakes region and Mungo National Park and the picturesque Yanga National Park.
Surrounded by the wonders of the Murrumbidgee, Murray, Lachlan, Wakool and Edward rivers, the area offers all visitors the opportunity to relax and enjoy some of the most unique natural scenery and landscapes in Australia. There is an abundance of great fishing, water sports and nature waiting for visitors.
The area is surrounded by rich agricultural lands and along with traditional dryland and irrigated agricultural production of grains, wool, sheep meat and beef, primary production is diversifying to include horticulture, viticulture, organic agriculture and the growing of fruit and nut trees and more recently to introduction of solar farms.
The Shire includes the townships of Balranald and Euston and the hamlets of Kyalite, Penarie, Oxley, Hatfield & Clare.

About Balranald
Balranald is the Shire’s main township and is a photographer’s living classroom. It is surrounded by unique landscapes and riverscapes with the majestic Murrumbidgee River running through the heart of the town. Balranald is in close proximity to the picturesque Yanga National Park and only 1.5 hours away from World Heritage listed Willandra Lakes Region and Mungo National Park.
The area has a spectacular array bird life and fauna and heritage sites such as the Yanga Woolshed and Yanga Homestead which are both in close proximity to the town. Tours are available from Balranald to both Yanga National Park and Mungo National Park
Culturally, the Balranald area is rich in both Aboriginal & European history and has a strong wool heritage and a deep connection with the River Red Gum which surrounds the region.
Balranald boasts an award-winning tourist precinct and community hub with the Balranald Discovery Centre which encompasses the Visitor Information Centre, Interpretive Pavilion, Café, Heritage buildings, Skate Park, playground
With a thriving main street, there is everything that a visitor would expect in a township of this size including various accommodation options, eateries, retail shops, supermarkets, chemist, butcher, newsagency, hardware store, post office, beauty and hair salons, wellbeing centre, ATM machines and automotive services. Balranald also offers wonderful parks and picnic areas and sporting facilities such as swimming pool, racecourse, football oval and netball courts, tennis courts, bowling greens and golf course.
About the Western Division Councils of NSW
The Western Division Councils of NSW (or "Western Division") is a collaborative body representing the 7 Councils in Far West NSW. The Western Division covers 42% of the state with member councils representing more than 40,000 outback residents.
Since its establishment in the 1920s as part of the NSW Shires Association, the Mayors and General Managers of member Councils have met three times a year to co-ordinate and collaborate on topics of common interest and present a united front when advocating at the state and federal levels. The Western Division Councils are committed to strengthening these partnerships.
Member Councils include: Balranald Shire Council, Bourke Shire Council, Broken Hill City Council, Central Darling Shire Council, Cobar Shire Council, Walgett Shire Council, and Wentworth Shire Council.

About the Annual Conference
The Western This Conference is the annual policy-making conference for Local Government and Village Committees of Management who work together in partnership with government agencies to manage and provides services to 42% of the State of NSW, equivalent to more than 32 million hectares.
This conference provides an opportunity for Local Government, Committees of Management, government agencies, and industry to come together to build their understanding of the issues that face the diverse Western Division of NSW, and discuss the impacts of legislative changes and State and Federal strategies and plans.
The Organisation meets three times per year and works to lobby governments for better outcomes for the Western Division.
