at the Derby Dear Benefactors of McAuley,

In 1872, Colonel Meriwether Clark, Jr., grandson of William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, founded the Louisville Jockey Club for the purpose of raising money to build quality racing facilities. Little did he imagine the Friends of McAuley High School would be holding their own Derby on April 20, 2013, to raise money for the fantastic young women at McAuley High School. Be prepared to be “wowed” tonight with the glitz, glamour, and adrenalin surge that only our Derby can create. Thoroughbreds, jockeys, elegant women in elaborate hats, and Stephen Foster’s My Old Kentucky Home will pump us up for the first leg of this Triple Crown event: McAuley’s “ for the Roses!” The treasures at McAuley Downs will be available for the greatest shopping escapade of your life. In 1973, Secretariat set the Kentucky Derby’s fastest time record: 1 minute 59 2/5 seconds. Most of you can break that as you race to the booths to place your wagers. Delicious mint juleps and a succulent gourmet dinner will be served prior to your charging from the post to race to the treasures. Fill your pockets with bundles of cash so you can SPEND, SPEND, SPEND to benefit the young women of McAuley High. Enjoy an infield to party- hearty and never see a horse. Sit in millionaire’s row to meet the celebrities of our supercharged race. May the magic and excitement entice you to raise those paddles and BID, BID, BID! We promise: betting, bidding, and buying have never been so much FUN!

This auspicious occasion is made possible because hundreds of caring, hardworking Friends of McAuley made a commit - ment of time, talent, and treasure to this horse racing adventure. These generous volunteers have planned and organized for twelve months to create our Race for the McAuley Students . Our friends share with the Sisters of Mercy a vision for McAuley High School to remain a faith-filled school of excellence throughout the 21st century. Scholarships, the Guardian Angel Fund, financial aid, technological advancements and campus upkeep will be the winners of tonight’s racing purse distribution.

Please join me in raising a mint julep in a toast of thanksgiving to God for our beloved fun-loving, hardworking co-chairs, Roberta and Tony Michel, Bobbi and Trey Blum, and Sue and Tom Michel. This dynamic trio has been spirited, enthusiastic, generous, creative, and dedicated since accepting their positions. True thoroughbreds, they have won the coveted blanket of roses for orchestrating tonight’s event. Also, please join me in thanking our dynamic auctioneer, Murray McCandles, who will showcase our live auction treasures from the grandstand. The ambiance for our trip to the Derby begins as you enter our school, thanks to the talents and vision of Randy Kent. In my prayers of thanksgiving for this extravagant party, I also thank our generous friends and neighbors, Larry and Judy Moyer, for opening the doors of their lovely home, Laurel Court, for the cham - pagne reception. Libby Hodapp (McAuley ’89) joined the McAuley Team last spring with sparkling eyes and a warm smile. She brings talent, energy, enthusiasm, and fun to our Derby. Libby, thank you so much for making this race so much fun from the post time to the finish line. We also give thanks to God for our talented, hardworking and loyal McAuction Committee Chairs and their fabulous assistants who make our race a treasured time to remember.

McAuley welcomes back Mr. Bob Herzog as Master of Ceremony. He is Cincinnati’s star of stage, Channel 12, and Dance Party Fridays. We look forward to Bob’s contagious enthusiasm as he entices each of us to CHARGE, CHARGE, CHARGE! Thank you, Bob, for running the race to riches for our super students.

May you experience an adrenaline rush as your heart pounds in eager anticipation of raising your paddles to lay claim to the big purse items. May God bless you abundantly for your generosity and loyalty to Mother Catherine McAuley, our beloved Sisters of Mercy, and McAuley’s outstanding young women. BID, BET, and BUY tonight!

With much love and gratitude,

Cheryl A. Sucher at the Derby

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for joining us as we celebrate the 2013 McAuction, An Affair to Remember at the Derby . If there is one thing McAuley does well, besides educate young women in the Catholic tra - dition, it is have a party! I am very glad you were able to accept our invitation to this one.

Quite often in the Kentucky Derby it is the patient and steady horse who knows when to start the sprint to the end that wins the race. McAuley High School has a tradition of high quality education that has stood the test of time. We have also served the best interests of our students with well-timed innovations. It is the McAuction, and those of you who attend, who help us continue to “run the good race.”

McAuction is a vital event for McAuley High School and the young women who walk its halls each and every day. The funds raised this evening provide a myriad of necessities for our students as we live our mission. Our ultimate goals are to develop each young woman’s intellect, gifts and talents and to ensure that she is well prepared to lead, to serve and to love. Attaining these goals, however, comes with a price, one that gets higher each year, regardless of the state of the economy. Among other things, the McAuction allows us to offer much needed financial assistance for the young women who desire a McAuley education. The list of families in need of financial aid continues to grow annually. As an alumna of this wonderful institution, I know firsthand how powerful a McAuley education is. Together, we have the ability to make the McAuley experience attainable for every young woman who aspires to join us.

The McAuction is integral to our ability to continue our mission of educating young women in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy. Thank you for your generosity and for helping to ensure the existence of McAuley High School into the future.

Sincerely,

Nicole Brainard Principal

McAuction A Seventeen Year Affair to Remember

McAuction was conceived in 1996 as a fun-filled event to raise funds for scholarships and special projects at McAuley. In the last fifteen years, McAuction has funded thousands upon thousands of dollars of academic and financial scholarships, kept up with the latest technology, and contributed to maintenance and improvements of the McAuley campus.

This could not have been accomplished without the hard work of McAuction volunteers and the generosity of businesses, parents, students, alumnae, and friends who contributed time and financial gifts to make this truly “An Affair to Remember.”

Guardian Angel Fund

One of the core Mercy values is compassion. Catherine herself lived this value, and as her representatives in 2012, we endeavor to do the same here at McAuley High School.

Certainly, no one is immune to tragedy or disaster in this world. When a McAuley student and her family experience these things, we all do whatever we can to ease their suffering and lighten their circumstances. One concrete way the school can help is through tuition assistance in urgent situations.

The Guardian Angel fund was created to provide tuition assistance to students whose emergency circumstances might otherwise force them to leave the school and lose the support of a caring, loving and Christian environment.

Through generous donations from benefactors like you, we have been able to help numerous students in the past. We hope that your generosity will enable us to continue to help them and those like them in the future.

Please watch and listen, and raise your paddle high when the Guardian Angel Fund is announced during the Live Auction. Everyone can donate to this fund at a comfortable level, from $50 to $1,000 or more. What’s more, one lucky Guardian Angel donor will win a trip for two to Ireland , so read the following information carefully. Your packet contains 20 shamrocks. Each shamrock represents a $50 donation to the Guardian Angel Fund. When the auctioneer asks you to raise your paddle with a Guardian Angel Fund donation, a volunteer will collect your shamrocks. If you raise your paddle with a $1,000 donation, your volunteer will collect all 20 of your Shamrocks. If you raise your paddle for a $50 donation, one of your Shamrocks will be collected. Volunteers will have plenty of extra shamrocks in case you choose to donate more than $1,000. All shamrocks will go in a hopper for a drawing later in the evening.

Consider a donation to the Guardian Angel Fund to help McAuley students in emergency situations – and to have a chance at a trip to “The Land of Saints and Scholars!”

Good luck, and God bless you for your generosity.
