Topographical and Utilities surveys were carried out in 2017 which confirm the presence of a number of below ground services, with associated wayleaves and easements effectively constraining the footprint of the building. Relocating these services would be prohibitively expensive, and rule out built development on the western edge of the site. The National Grid Plug Tunnel runs through the centre of the site. A 10.5m wide exclusion zone exists around the tunnel, some estimated 15m below the ground, through which piling is not permitted. Piling over the exclusion zone may be permitted depending on the surcharge allowed in the tunnel design. A zone of influence extends at 45° from the exclusion zone, consultation will be required should the building extend into the zone of influence. The footpath to the north is a designated Greenway. The footpath and Leyton Marshes effectively define the northern boundary of the site. The boundary of the SMINC extends into the north western corner of the site. It is proposed that the building and any hard landscaping will maintain a clear distance from the SMINC to minimise any potential impact from the development. On the 27th June Laura attended the Leathersellers Charity Reception and met with Martin Dove, Leathersellers livery liaison. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet with our funders and to network with other charities that are being supported by them. Thank you Leathersellers!!     ICE ARENA WALES, CARDIFF BAY EUROCLAD LIMITED Cutting-edge UK manufacturing maintains Euroclad’s position at the forefront of the metal roofing and cladding industry, with innovation leading to the ongoing development of products, including Elite Systems, SF500 and Vieo. These high performance systems and showcase external products have been used to achieve an attractive, striking exterior building design at the new home of ice sports in Wales. The 6000 square metre Ice Arena Wales was built in the popular Cardiff Bay area of the vibrant Welsh capital, working to a design that aspired to create a world-class sports arena, boasting two ice pads and seating for 3000 spectators, with the long-term capability of facilitating world and European standard events. This aspiration was not only achieved but exceeded, aided considerably by the willingness for all construction partners to cooperate, with the aim of achieving the best possible solution. The arena opened in time for the Cardiff Devils home game against Belfast Giants in March 2016. There were a number of challenges to overcome from the outset, primarily the choice of roof and wall products to achieve the aesthetics. It was important that the chosen solution would sit comfortably on such a high profile sporting building. Euroclad’s Vieo wall profile was chosen to help deliver the sleek, modern and unique aesthetic experience that stood out among other world-class venues. The functional needs of the building also presented an unprecedented series of challenges, driven by the internal operational environment of the Ice Arena, specifically temperature control and noise regulation.
