In Texas, Tim Hardaway scored a team-high 29 points as the Dallas Mavericks delivered one of their best defensive games of the season, by limiting the Memphis Grizzlies to just 39 percent shooting on Monday. Luka Doncic scored 21 points and Jalen Brunson chipped in 19 as the Mavericks returned from an unexpected eight-day break to post a 103-92 victo- ry at the American Airlines Center. The Mavericks had not played since February 14 after a devastating winter storm wreaked havoc on the Dallas area and forced two postponements.

Alex Gallardo Irene Carlson Gallery of Photography Eyes on the Ball April 11 through May 20, 2011 An exhibition of photographs Miller Hall, University of La Verne Photographer’s Statement My start in photojournalism began with a slide show program during a beginning photo class at the University of La Verne. It was presented by a well-known photojournalist at the The Sun in San Bernardino, Tom Kasser. His work opened my eyes. Once I had seen what he could do with a camera, it brought me to see, and not just look, at the world around me. Kasser gave me a goal to strive for, to work at The Sun as a staff photographer. Through my undergraduate career I learned the mechanics of the craft. As a lifetime baseball player I already had the competitive gene so I redirected my passion for athletics toward photography. I took a detour in my quest to be a photojournalist after graduating from ULV. A huge mistake cost me thirteen months of my professional life, and almost the use of my legs. I drove a dump truck backwards over a cliff, spent three months in a hospital and at home in a body cast recuperating from injuries. I spent another nine months in physical therapy learning to walk. Doctors told me that I might not regain the use of my legs or walk without assistance for least five years, if ever. Luckily, I had a great physical therapist. We worked hard every day and prayed to regain the use of my legs. Once I began to walk doctors cleared me to continue as a photographer and stay away from driving trucks.

2013-14 VIRGINIA TECH BASKETBALL Head Coach James Johnson 2013-14 VIRGINIA TECH BASKETBALL A MESSAGE TO TECH SUPPORTERS This is a very exciting time for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team. We look forward to a season that will bring in new faces and new challenges. It should be a season of excitement and of improvement. The thing I have noticed about this group through the summer and the preseason is their willingness to work. I stated often last season that I never had to coach effort and this season, that same spirit has been evident since day one. This group of players shows up ready to do their best, regardless of whether it’s on the court, in the weight room or in the classroom. They are always ready to take a step forward. During the last year, we have made very substantial strides in shaping this program into a group that makes this University proud. We have become more involved in campus and community projects and have comported ourselves in a manner expected of Virginia Tech students and student-athletes. We strive to make this team YOUR team. It has meant so much to the team and me that you stop us on the street, in restaurants and out in public and greet us all so warmly. I believe this partnership has gotten off to a wonderful start and will only grow stronger. Whereas, on April 6, 2015, the Duke University men's basketball team won the 2015 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Championship by defeating the University of Wisconsin by a score of 68-63; and Whereas, this championship gives Duke University its fifth Division I NCAA title for the men's basketball program, adding to the championships won in 1991, 1992, 2001, and 2010; and Whereas, the Blue Devils have achieved an outstanding record during their NCAA tournament history, which includes being selected 13 times as a No. 1 seed and appearing in 39 tournaments with 11 championship game appearances, 16 Final Four appearances, 20 Elite Eight appearances, and 24 Sweet 16 appearances; and Whereas, the Blue Devils finished the 2014-2015 season with a record of 35-4 and were ranked No. 1 by the USA Today Top 25 men's basketball coaches' poll; and Whereas, much of the Blue Devils' success can be attributed to the leadership of head coach, Mike Krzyzewski, a Hall of Fame coach, who during his 35 seasons at Duke has led his teams to a record of 945-251; and Whereas, Coach Krzyzewski along with his coaching staff of associate head coach Jeff Capel and assistant coaches Nate James and Jon Scheyer guided the Blue Devils to an 11-2 record against nationally ranked opponents, including a 6-1 mark against top 10 foes; and Whereas, Coach Krzyzewski maintains the record for the most number of NCAA tournament wins, capturing his 88th NCAA win during the 2015 tournament, and with five championship titles he owns the second most championships in NCAA history; and Whereas, Duke's historic run also saw Coach Krzyzewski become the first NCAA Division I men's basketball coach to amass 1,000 career victories with the monumental win coming by virtue of a 77-68 triumph over St.
