Kempston Rovers is a members club run by a committee as instructed by the trustees of Kempston Rovers Football and Social Club. Mr Russell Shreeves is our Unincorporated Club: Nominee t Match Preview On The Home Front Next up at Hillgrounds… Opponent Coleshill Town Competition Southern League Division 1 Central Last Time They Were Here… Coles have never visited us before Did you know… Coleshill began life in the Iron Age, before the Roman conquest of 43 AD, as the Grimstock Hill Romano-British settlement, north of the River Cole. The area was at the junction of two powerful Celtic Tribes – the Coritanii to the east from Leicester, and to the west the Cornovii from Viroconium Corno-viorum. In the post Roman or Arthurian period (The Dark Ages), the nucleus of Coleshill moved about a kilometre to the south, to the top of the hill. Here the present church is set and the medieval town developed around it. Simon Digby was awarded the manor of Coleshill in 1496 by King Henry VII, following the Battle of Bosworth and the execution of Simon de Montford for helping in the at-tempt to oust the King. During the era of coaching and the turnpike trusts, Coleshill became important as a ma-jor staging post on the coaching roads from London to Chester, Liverpool and Holyhead. At one point there were over twenty inns in the town. The Coleshill to Lichfield Turnpike dates from 1743. On this day in Rovers history… Rovers’ last game on this date was in 2012, away at Cogenhoe United. Rovers won two nil on the day, goals coming from Jordan Jarrold and Ash Farmer. There have only been thirteen recorded games for Rovers on this date in the 135 year history. Rovers welcome the Coles to Hillgrounds after their promotion from the Midland League last season. They were promoted as runner’s up, six points behind champions Bromsgrove and two clear of third placed Highgate. Kempston Rovers 135 years of Football History

Kempston Rovers were formed in 1884 and entered the Bedford & District League. Rover’s first league championship was won in 1908 and twelve months later Rover’s retained the title while also carrying off the Bedfordshire Senior Cup and North Beds Charity Cup. The Walnut Boys, the club’s official nickname, comes from the large walnut orchard in Kempston around the time of foundation. This identity is carried forward by one of the main supporters’ groups at the club, “The Nuts on Tour”. 1973 saw the start of a new era as Kempston relocated to a new ground further down Hillgrounds Road. A magnificent season saw the Walnut Boys storm to the Premier title losing only once in 32 games. A golden period in the club's history saw League Cup successes in 1975 and 1977; the Beds Senior Cup was again captured in 1977 while the Walnut Boys reached the last 16 of the FA Vase in 1975. In 1986, the club moved again, this time to the current ground, their third in the same road. Kempston last won the county’s highest honour, the Beds. Senior Cup, in 1992, the fourth time the trophy has come to Hillgrounds. In 2002 Kempston Rovers and Kempston Colts began an alliance to pool resources/personnel under the name AFC Kempston. The youth teams at Rovers still go by the name “Colts”, keeping the history of youth football in the town alive. The beginning of 2005 saw the start of major re-developments at Hillgrounds Road with the building of new changing facilities and the building of an artificial training pitch, which is available to book all year round for training sessions, small sided games or just a kick around with friends. The new ground facilities were completed in 2006 and along with a new stand; on-going ground improvements and the existing clubhouse refurbished and ready to hire for functions and events, Kempston now have some of the best facilities in the area for non-league football. Midway through the 2013-14 season James Stoyles and Gary Flinn took over the 1st Team managerial duties before, in 2015-16, Rovers won the United Counties Football League Premier Division, with a thrilling final win on the last day of the season, a campaign in which they only lost one league game. This resulted in promotion and saw us move into the Southern League Division One which represents the highest level we have attained within the FA pyramid system so far. Since promotion, the club has twice narrowly missed out on a place in the end of season promotion play offs. On both occasions, finishing above some of the more established sides in the division. The club currently operates one of the largest youth systems in the county, with over thirty sides at various age groups and a senior development side. There is a supporters’ club that holds various functions throughout the season to support the first team.

Kempston Rovers, 135 years in the making and we’re not done yet. Kempston Rovers Football Club

Coleshill Town was founded in 1894 making them one of the oldest clubs in non- league football and the oldest in Warwickshire.

Until 1964 Coleshill played mostly in junior leagues, but then local rivals Coleshill Hall Hospital F.C. folded and the cream of their players joined Town. As the standard improved, Coleshll joined the Mercian League and then the Combination in 1968 winning Division Two in 1969/70, and the Combination Cup in 1970.

Playing at the Memorial Park, the club needed its own ground to get promotion and in 1974 they moved to their present site Pack Meadow, mainly due to the determination and dedication of Percy Hastings.

Promotion to the top flight of the Combination soon followed in 1975 and there they stayed, apart from one season in Div 1, for more than thirty years. Coleshill’s greatest achievements during that time saw them as M.F.C. Premiership runners up in 1983/84 and winning the Walsall Senior Cup in 1983. Other highlights included a run in the Birmingham Senior Cup in 1988/89 beating Birmingham City then holding Wolverhampton Wanderers to a draw. The replay at Molineux was against the Wolves first team including the outstanding young strikers Steve Bull and Andy Mutch.

The Colemen more than matched their Black Country opponents for over an hour. Although Town tired and conceded late goals they prevented Steve Bull from scoring, something that the Scottish International team failed to achieve at Hampden Park a few weeks later.

Old Boys include Danny Hagen, the former Irish International who played in the U.E.F.A. Cup Final for Wolves in 1972, but our greatest son is without doubt Gary Shaw who was picked up by Villa whilst playing for Coleshill as a sixteen year old.

In more recent times the club enjoyed the 1997/98 season under Martin Socket who led the side to the top of the Premiership before leaving to join Dr Martin’s VS Rugby. Coleshill Town FC History Part 2

A succession of managers have come and gone, usually taking all the players with them. Mick Beadle steadily improved the side in the four years he was with the club, but former Kettering player and Bedworth Ass Manager, Carl Adams was appointed manager in September 2008 and he led Coleshill to the Midland Combination Premiership Championship for the first time in the club’s history, clawing back a 22 point deficit and beating Highgate United to the title on goal difference, on the last day of the season.

Fifteen games into the new season Carl Adams stood down quoting family and work commitments the reason for his departure. Neil Kitching and Martin Socket were quickly installed as a joint management with the Reserve team that season winning the Challenge Bowl.

In October 2005 Coleshill were awarded Adult Standard Charter status by the football Association and in 2012 awarded Junior Standard Chartered Status and maintain those standards today.

In 2011-12, Coleshill Town reserves won the MFC Reserve Division Two tile and were runners up in the Challenge Bowl cup final, in 2013-14 finished runner ups in the MFL Reserve Division One and in 2015-16 were crowned champions of the Reserve League and were runners in in their League Cup.

In 2012-13 the club had three managers with Paul Casey being appointed mid way through the season with the thankless task of saving the club from relegation with two games to go this task was achieved. The U18’s finished a credible third in the floodlight league and were finalists in the Birmingham Youth Cup.

2013-14 was a record breaking season, finishing 4th the Midland Football alliance the highest ever position in the clubs history breaking all previous win, goal scored etc stats and he took the team to the fourth round of the FA Vase narrowly missing out on victory in the North east at Dunston. Coleshill Town FC History Part 3

2014-2015 was yet again a record breaking season, finishing 2nd the newly formed Midland Football League breaking the 2013-14 season records for the highest ever position in the clubs history breaking all previous win, goal scored etc. stats and he took the team to the semi-final of the Birmingham Senior cup missing out on a place in the final taking Birmingham City all the way to penalties.

2015-16 proved a little more difficult, with a new state of the art 3G pitch not completed until October, the first two months of the season the Coleman spent their time playing all game’s away from home. However the team finished in 5th reaching the fourth round of the FA Vase and the third qualifying round in the FA Cup.

2016-17 the development of players from feeder teams worked well with the first half of the season under Paul Casey consolidated performances in the league, Paul left before the Christmas period with assistant Manager Simon Lyons taking over the manager’s role. Under Simon he further consolidated performances narrowly missing out on promotion finishing in second place and reaching the semifinal of the FA Vase losing the aggregate tie over two legs to the eventual winners South Shields. The first home leg tie saw a record crowd of 3,465 at the Pack Meadow.

In 2017-18 ex Aston Villa player Cameron Stuart took over the reins along with his challenge to bring promotion to club, this he achieved along with an appearance at Walsall FC in the Midland Football League, League Cup final, means we are here to today playing in the Southern League, this being the highest league the club have ever played in.

So, here we are this season in the Southern League and in a newly formed division, expectations of Cameron are always held high at the club, however I am sure those that are new to this league will want to avoid relegation, learn from this season and use all this to ensure Southern League Status is not lost in the coming seasons.

In total at senior level and junior team status, we have a number of teams all supported by a professional and dedicated board of directors and volunteers who believe in developing and offering the ability for all to play the wonderful game at Coleshill Town Football Club. Ducks cause a flap By Matthew Wilmot Aylesbury United 3 – 1 Kempston Rovers Rovers began well but allowed their hosts to find the net against the run of play and then failed to prevent them from scoring twice more as the season began with a defeat for the North Bedfordshire club. Rovers had much the better of the opening exchanges as Ben Acquaye saw a goalbound shot blocked by Shane Bush after just ten minutes. Shortly afterwards, Ty Deacon, on his debut for the club, couldn’t latch on to a flick on to take advantage of the gapping net. Perhaps Kempston’s best chance came on twenty minutes when Nathan Tshikuna flicked the ball through to Bush, who found himself clear on goal, but his volley flashed wide. Bush then saw a header loop over the bar from a right wing cross. The impressive Ben Acquaye flicked the ball over the head of his marker to create space for a shot on goal, but dragged his effort wide. With their first effort on goal of the game, the hosts took the lead. With half an hour on the clock, Sonny French found himself ahead of the Kempston backline with just Martin Conway to beat. The Rovers’ stopper got fingertips to the forward’s lobbed effort but couldn’t keep it out. In first half stoppage time, Hateley Mercer was cautioned for a robust challenge on the hosts Ollie Hogg. On reviewing the match photography, Mercer made no contact with his opponent, making his exasperate scream and subsequent rolling on the floor a little irksome to football purists. After the break, the hosts had the better of the game. Early chances for French and Sean Coles couldn’t find the net, but then just after the hour they extended their lead. Harry Jones was played through, beating the offside trap, and placed a composed finish low past Conway. For the second time in the game, Shane Bush blocked a goal bound effort from one of his own men. With little more than a quarter hour left, Aylesbury United sub Aaron Berry played in French, who dinked a finish over the on rushing Conway only to see it come back off the foot of the post before Alex Collard cleared to safety. United had several chances in quick succession, with Kempston throwing bodies in the way to keep the score at two nil. Their efforts were undone in the seventy ninth minute as Matt Peake-Pijnen latched on to some neat interplay and unleashed a low shot into the net for three nil. Rovers got themselves a consolation goal three minutes from time, Ben Shepherd finding the top corner of the net from a free kick just outside the area. Hopwood in the Aylesbury goal got fingetips to the ball but couldn’t deny Shepherd. Rovers have an immediate chance to put right their bad start to the season on Tuesday night as they play host to league new boys Coleshill Town, who beat Aylesbury FC this afternoon.
