Head Coach Dave Boos Third Season • 27-57 Overall • 13-27 MAC Photo Album / Complete Bio Dave Boos enters his third season as the head women’s volleyball coach at looking to guide the Cardinals back to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in program history. Boos was named the fifth head women’s volleyball coach in BSU history on Jan. 8, 2007, after completing his third season as associate head coach and fifth season overall at the University of Minnesota in 2006. “We are very fortunate to have someone the caliber of Dave join the Ball State family,” said BSU Director of Athletics Tom Collins. “He is one of the most talented young coaches of this generation and will be an excellent representative for the Ball State women’s volleyball program. He is a consummate competitor, technician and recruiter, who continues to excel as a student and teacher of the game.” “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to direct the Ball State women’s volleyball program,” said Boos. “Ball State University has developed a rich volleyball tradition, and I look forward to leading the program to a new level of success. Muncie, Indiana, is a hotbed for the sport of volleyball. This is a community that understands and appreciates volleyball, and I look forward to exciting them about a new direction for Ball State volleyball.“ Despite a 5-25 (4-12 Mid-American Conference) record in his first season at the Ball State helm, the Cardinals showed improvement on the court, winning two of its final five matches and falling a few points shy of advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2007 MAC Tournament. Defensively, the Cardinals ranked among the league leaders in blocking, digging and opponent’s hitting percentage, while then-freshman Alyssa Rio ranked fourth in the MAC and 37th nationally with her 5.58 digs-per-set average. The Cardinals continued to show improvement in 2008, posting a 12-21 overall record, while securing a seventh-place finish in MAC play with a 6-10 league ledger. BSU’s biggest league win of the season came on the road, when it defeated then-first place Miami (Oct. 25) in five sets. The Cardinals also advanced to the MAC Tournament quarterfinals, after picking up a first round home court victory over Eastern Michigan (Nov. 18). Boos saw two of his recruits earn conference honors after the 2008 campaign with both Jennifer Boyd and Brittany McGinnis earning MAC All- Freshman accolades. In addition, Boyd was named Second Team All-MAC after ranking fifth in the league in hitting percentage at .313. In his five seasons at Minnesota (2002-06) under head coach Mike Hebert, Boos helped guide the Gophers to a 142-38 overall and 80-20 Big Ten record, including the program’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I National Championship match in 2004. Boos, who graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a bachelor of science degree in 1998, is married to the former Amy Ward. The couple currently resides in Yorktown, Ind.
