This was formed by order of the Wilts County Council, and comprises the portions of the original parish of Calne not included Bowood and part of the parish of . It is situated in the Division of Wilts, Calne Union, Petty Sessional Division and County Court District, and the Diocese of . The register of the Church of St. Peter, situated in Blackland Park, dates from 1757. Wellington Church of St, Mary dates from 1760. The joint living is a rectory, the two having been annexed on November 2nd, 1880; net yearly value, £259, including 70 acres of glebe, with residence, in the alternative gift of the Marquis of Lansdowne and the trustees of the late Mrs. Macdonald. There is a Wesleyan Chapel. A reading room was built in 1883 by Lord Fitz warren, and to it is attached a free lending library supported by the Marquis of Lansdowne, the farmers and others in the neighbourhood. The water supply for the town of Calne is derived from springs at Calstone leased from the Marquis of Lansdowne by the Calne Waterworks Company. Mrs. Wingfield Digby is Lady of the Manor of Blackland; the Marquis of Lansdowne is Lord of the Manor of ; and the Marquis of Lansdowne, the Marquis of Crewe, Lord Islington and Mrs. Wingfield Digby are the principal landowners. Letters arrive at Calstone from Calne, and are despatched at 9.25 a.m. and 7 p.m. The nearest Telegraph and Money Order Office is at Calne. Postal orders are issued here, but not paid. The ecclesiastical parish of includes a portion of . Area, 9,894 acres; rateable value, £18,789; population in 1921, 2,244.

QUEMERFORD is a tithing 1 mile south-east. Holy Trinity Chapel-of-Ease here erected affords 230 sittings; attached is a cemetery of two acres. The Plymouth Brethren have a meeting room at to seat 200 persons.

STOCKLEY, 2 miles south, where there is a Primitive Methodist Chapel, and part of STUDLEY, 2½ miles north east, with a Wesleyan Chapel, are hamlets and tithings.

WHETHAM, 2½ miles east.
