SERIES NOTES VS. WASHINGTON (ASU LEADS 28-27) The Sun Devils have dominated of late having won 17 of the last 20 meetings, including 15 of the last 16. In 2010 the Huskies snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Sun Devils with a 62-56 victory in Seattle before the Sun Devils won the rematch in Tempe, 67-61 (OT). Last season the Sun Devils won both meetings -- 57-53 in Seattle and 47-41 in Tempe. Of the 104 points the Sun Devils scored against Washing- ton in two games last season, only 19 were scored by players on ASU’s current active roster.

SERIES NOTES VS. WASHINGTON STATE (ASU LEADS 38-14) ASU has won 27 of its last 30 meetings vs. Washington State. The Cougars’ only wins in the last 30 meetings were a 75-72 victory in Pullman on February 28, 2004, a 66-62 win on Feb. 26, 2010 in Tempe and most recently a 70-65 win January 20, 2011 in Tempe. Last season ASU came through with a 63-46 win in Pullman and a 47-42 win in Tempe. Janae Fulcher averaged 9.5 points made 50 percent of her shots (8-16) in last season’s games vs. Washington State. In 2008, ASU set the record for the fewest points ever allowed in a Pac-10/12 game with a 59-30 win over the Cougars.

TOUGH SCHEDULE Throughout Charli Turner Thorne’s tenure at Arizona State, the program has been known for having one of toughest schedules in the country on an annual basis and the 2012-13 season has been no different as the Sun Devils faced nine non-conference foes which qualified for postseason play in 2012. “We have a preseason schedule that is geared toward making us road warriors and toughening us up to prepare for Pac-12 play,” Turner Thorne said prior to the season. “We have a stretch in Pac-12 where we have four road games in a row. This schedule is by design. We are on the road a lot this preseason and I think it is only going to make us better and tougher. We need to go in there and be consistent with our effort and our focus.” ASU started the season playing six of its first nine games away from home. The Sun Devils will have a similar stretch at the start of Pac-12 play at they will play six of their first eight conference games on the road.

Page 2 ASU at Washington • January 4, 2013 FULCHER AND PICKENS LEAD THE WAY ON OFFENSE While any player on ASU’s roster is capable leading the team’s offensive attack on a given night, seniors Janae Fulcher and Micaela Pick- ens have stepped up to provide the Sun Devils with consistent scoring. Fulcher and Pickens, who are first (10.6 ppg) and second (8.3 ppg) on the team in scoring, respectively, have combined to score in double figures 13 times this season (Fulcher - 7 and Pickens - 6). All seven of Fulcher’s double-figure scoring games have come in ASU’s last nine contests. Fulcher set new career highs in points (26) and field goals (13) in ASU’s 74-58 win over Florida (Nov. 25) in the championship game of the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas. Against the Gators, Fulcher was on fire from the floor as she connected on 81 percent of her field goal attempts (13-16). Her 26 points were the most by a Sun Devil since Danielle Orsillo scored 29 points at Oregon on Feb. 13, 2010. Fulcher, who leads the team and is No. 3 in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage (.593), has shot 50 percent or better in all but two games this season. Pickens’ versatility, athleticism and skill have enabled her to have an impact on both ends of the floor as she currently leads the team in 3-point FGs (15) and 3-point FG pct. (.417), is second in scoring (8.3 ppg) and steals (1.3 spg) and is third in field goal percentage (.481), assists (2.0 apg) and blocks (0.6 bpg). Last month Pickens had a four-game stretch (@Providence, @BC, vs. USD, vs. Longwood) in which she averaged 12.5 points and shot 61 percent (19-31) from the field including 65 percent (11-17) from 3-point range. Last season Pickens played in 31 games and finished first on the team in steals (1.9 spg), second in blocks (0.8 bpg) and third in -re bounding (3.7 rpg - most among ASU’s guards).

INDIVIDUAL PLAYER NOTES • Currently ASU’s leader in steals (2.1 spg) and percentage (.893), Promise Amukamara has been ASU’s leading scorer (10.0 ppg) over the last four games. She posted career highs in points (15) and field goals (six) in ASU’s win over Idaho State (Dec. 30). • Adrianne Thomas, ASU’s leader in assists, had a career-high eight assists vs. San Diego (Dec. 12). Earlier this season she scored a career- high 16 points at UTEP (Nov. 18). • Joy Burke has ASU’s four highest single-game rebounding efforts this season. She has grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds three times. • Jada Blackwell scored in double figures in ASU’s road wins at Providence (Dec. 7) and at Boston College (Dec. 9). She scored 12 of her career- best-tying 14 points in the second half at Providence and then added 10 points at Boston College. She shot a combined 56 percent (10-18 FGs) in the two games. • Arnecia Hawkins has scored seven or more points seven times this season. She dropped in a career-high 11 points vs. San Deigo (Dec. 12). • Elisha Davis has had a career-high four assists four times in ASU’s last six games. • Haley Videckis, ASU’s second leading rebounder (4.5 rpg), has had five or more rebounds five times this season. Videckis, who is coming off a career-high 11-point outing vs. Idaho State (Dec. 30), is averaging 10.0 points in ASU’s last two games.

A closer look at the numbers shows that this year’s Sun Devil squad, which returned only one player with more 10 career starts, is showing remarkable improvement not only from week to week, but from game to game. In the last eight games ASU is averaging nearly 12 more points than the opposition -- 65.2-52.1. The 65.2-point average is 6.0 points higher than ASU’s first four games while the opposition’s 52.1-point average is 11.9 points fewer. During that same stretch, ASU is shooting 46.4 percent from the floor (+7.2 percent higher than first four games) while holding its opponents to 33.9 percent (-7.4 percent lower than the first four games). Of even greater significance has been ASU’s tremendous accuracy from downtown where it has shot 33.3 percent over the last eight games, more than 11 percentage points higher than its first four games when it was shooting 21.8 percent.

TURNER THORNE RETURNS FOR 16TH SEASON; APPROACHING SIGNIFICANT CAREER ACHIEVEMENT Following a one-year sabbatical, Charli Turner Thorne returns for her 16th season as head coach of the Sun Devil women’s basketball pro- gram. The all-time winningest coach in ASU women’s basketball history and third in the Pac-12 in career wins (297), Turner Thorne will look to lead the Sun Devils to their 14th consecutive postseason appearance in 2012-13. “I really used [the sabbatical] to grow myself as a person,” Turner Thorne said. “I think after 23 straight years in college coaching you can lose yourself a little bit. I worked on becoming a better coach, and in many ways, becoming a better wife, and a better mom and a better me. It was absolutely amazing. I do have a new and even better perspective.” Since taking over in 1996-97, Turner Thorne has turned Sun Devil women’s basketball into one of the nation’s premiere programs. Includ- ed in ASU’s current run of 13 consecutive postseason appearances is a school record five-consecutive NCAA Tournament bids from 2005- 09. During that time the Sun Devils qualified for the Elite Eight on a pair of occasions, making ASU one of only 15 programs in the country to have qualified for the Elite Eight at least two times since 2007. Turner Thorne needs three more wins at ASU to become the third Pac-12 coach to reach 300 victories. A closer look at her path to 300 puts into perspective the incredible 180-degree turnaround Sun Devil women’s basketball has undergone since she came to ASU. To reach 150 wins it took Turner Thorne 272 games (150-122 - .551) as she rebuilt a program that had an aggregate record of 20-60 in the three years prior to her arrival and only two NCAA Tournament wins in its history. Since picking up her 150th win, Turner Thorne is 147-61(.701). Included in those 147 wins are eight of Turner Thorne’s 11 NCAA Tournament victories.

ASU’s eight NCAA Tournament appearances under Turner Thorne are five more than what ASU had in the 15 years prior to her arrival in Tempe.

• Returns for her 16th season in 2012-13 after taking a voluntary leave of ab- sence during the 2011-12 season.

• Needs three more wins to reach 300 as ASU’s head coach. Would become only the third coach in Pac-12 history (former Washington/USC head coach Chris Gobrecht and current Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer) to win 300 games.

• In 2011 led ASU to its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in seven years and a third-place finish in the Pac-10, ASU’s ninth top-3 conference finish in 11 seasons.

• In 2009 guided the Sun Devils to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons. ASU’s final 26-9 record in 2008-09 included a school record 15-game winning streak.

• Is one of three coaches (former Washington head coach Chris Gobrecht and current Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer) in Pac-12 history (since the 1986- 87 season) to have led their respective schools to five (or more) consecutive 20-win seasons.

• In 2006-07 guided the Sun Devils to a school record 31 wins, including a school record 16 Pac-10 wins, and led them to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. ASU concluded the 2006-07 season ranked No. 8 in the final USA Today/ESPN coaches poll and No. 10 in the final Associated Press poll, their highest FINAL rankings in each of the respective polls in school history.

• In 2005-06 led ASU to a 25-7 record. During the second half of that season led ASU on a (then) school record 10-game winning streak after leading the Sun Devils to a school record-tying nine-game winning streak earlier in the season (also led ASU to its first Top 10 ranking in 22 years).

• In 2004-05 directed ASU to a 24-10 overall record and its first NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance in 22 years.

• Led her 2001-02 team to a 25-9 record, which at the time had tied the single-season school record for most wins.

• Guided ASU to a share of the Pac-10 title in 2001 and the inaugural Pac-10 Tournament title in 2002, the first league championships in school history.

• Started her head coaching career at Northern Arizona where she spent three seasons (40-40 record from 1992/93 - 1995/96) and led NAU to consecutive winning seasons in 1994-95 and 1995-96, the first coach in school history to accomplish that feat.

• As a player, lettered four years at Stanford where she played under Tara VanDerveer.

• During the summer of 2009 Turner Thorne served as the head coach of the USA Women’s World University Games Team which went undefeated (7-0) and captured the gold medal at the 2009 World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia. It was Turner Thorne’s second time working with USA Basketball. In the summer of 2007 Turner Thorne served as an assistant coach on USA Basketball’s U21 World Champi- onship Team which won the gold medal at the FIBA U21 World Championship in Moscow, Russia.

• Is currently the president of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) Executive Committee.
