Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors are assigned to the Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center. will be responsible for overseeing the safety of all programs. Water Safety Instructors will be assigned to teach swim lessons to people of all abilities ages 6 months to adults. We’re looking for team members that are able to obtain the required American Red Cross certifications for the positions they are interested in. Positions Currently Open: Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, and Lifeguard/Instructor.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE TYPICAL DUTIES Lifeguard Lifeguard •Be at least 15 years of age (by certification completion). •Oversee safety of all patrons and programs at the Dolores •Ability to take and comple the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Bengtson Aquatic Center. course to obtain a certification in Lifeguarding//CPR/AED. •Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting the voice •Communicate effectively and possess excellent interpersonal across distance; hear noises and distress signals; recognize skills while interacting with program participants, co-workers, hazardous situations and implement effective course of action; supervisors, and the general public. react quickly and calmly in emergencies; and perform rescue actions including administering first aid and CPR/AED. Water Safety Instructor •Provide great customer service to participants and parents. •Be at least 16 years of age (by certification completion). •Other duties as assigned. •Ability to take and comple the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course to obtain a certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED. Water Safety Instructor •Communicate effectively and possess excellent interpersonal •Provide instruction on water safety and swimming skills based on skills while interacting with program participants, co-workers, to the America Red Cross swimming and water safety program. supervisors, and the general public. •Oversee safety of participants in and around the water. •Provide great customer service to participants and parents. •Other duties as assigned.

Positions are seasonal and year-round. Summer Programs run: June 8 through August 7. All staff will work the mandatory training week of June 1 - 5. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The most qualified applicants will be invited and will take part in an interview process, date and time to be determined. Prior to starting employment, the selected applicants must provide a copy of a certificate showing that he/she has undergone and successfully cleared a tuberculosis test within the past two years, or undergo a tuberculosis test arranged by the City. Applicants under age 18 must provide a copy of a work permit prior to starting employment. Applicants selected for the positions will be required to undergo and successfully pass fingerprint checks by the City prior to starting employment.
