Summary

The Media Relations Lead is involved in all aspects of the development and implementation of Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada's media based communication strategies. The Media Relations Lead is responsible for promoting and protecting the company's reputation by developing and executing media and strategies and plans for brand building/innovation, corporate promotions, and corporate communications/affairs initiatives through the use of various media outlets in collaboration with a communications team. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Job Duties

• Leading in the developing, implementing and measuring external and internal Media based communication plans. • Manage day-to-day media relations/media requests for brand and corporate issues. • Create a revised media crisis management plan for National and Club use • Collaborate with marketing and subject matter experts in a timely manner to determine appropriate media responses via various channels. • Develop written materials including press releases, Q&A, media standby statements on brand and corporate issues as required.

• Build relationships with key media contacts and identify opportunities to proactively pitch brand and corporate stories through social media outlets as appropriate. • Assist in the development and implementation of Brand PR programs to support brand building initiatives/innovation/corporate promotions. • Help oversee program execution from kick off through to completion. • Provide guidance and direction to PR agency partners and review all Brand PR materials to ensure communication is accurate, relevant and consistent with Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada's brand and overall corporate messaging and positions. • Provide guidance to ensure coordination and communication of messages/ to both internal and external audiences. • Evaluate the effectiveness of media programs and communicate results back to business. • Develop and implement online communications strategy ensuring alignment with internal communications strategy and that it includes day-to-day content development strategy and functional enhancements. • Serve as senior editor and provide communications content for Intranet. • Serve as liaison to IT. • Evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications and report results back to business. • Lead responsibility for daily News Briefs process with assistance from communications coordinator. • Liaison and collaborate with employee groups and cross-functional teams as needed and help provide creative solutions to communication problems. • Lead internal communications resource to all departments. • Develop and manage internal/external corporate and local community events in support of corporate giving strategy. • Serve as back-up to the Communications Director with crisis/ issues management. • Any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, , Public Relations or related field. • 2-3 years' experience working in a Media Relations role or in Public Relations. • Management experience preferred. • Must possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with strong writing and editorial abilities. • Highly organized with the ability to multitask. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, internet, wire services, media monitoring software, and other public relation tools. • Demonstrated success with Social Media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and others. • Must possess strong project management skills. • Must be able to meet tight deadlines and execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment and see a project through to completion. • Must have the ability to be an influential communications consultant within the organization.

• Must have the ability to work effectively in a team. • Must be capable of maintaining confidentiality, with a high level of accuracy regarding information. • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work effectively with all levels of employees is critical. • Other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions

• Travel may be required. • Ability to attend and conduct presentations. • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals. • Various working schedule including some nights, weekends and holidays. • Overtime as required.
