PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT

Music can uplift the spirit and enliven the soul. A familiar tune can conjure up the fondest memory and bring forth a smile. Music can also stir us emotionally. A sad love song has the ability to tug at the heartstrings to recall a particularly painful heartbreak, and then some tears. Yes, music can be that powerful.

At Swimming Club, musical entertainment is a key staple in our repertoire of social and recreational off erings, which we will continually review to provide members with new and attractive play options. For example, we have recently refreshed D’Tanjong’s weekend live band line-up to serenade our members and guests with new sounds.

We have also just launched themed nights on every fi rst Friday of the month. The fi rst of these, Canto-Mando Night in July, was a blast. Fans of Jacky Cheung, Management Committee Grasshopper, Beyond and Jay Chou were treated to their all-time favourites that were belted out by popular pub singers. Not into Chinese songs? Perhaps you Gary Oon, President Key Administration will revel at our next music-themed night on 2 September when we invite a Procurement professional Elvis impersonator to perform the King’s tunes.

Yeo Chui Hee, Vice-President Members not contented with just watching others bask in the limelight can take Food & Beverage centre stage themselves at D’Galaxy, our KTV lounge, where we stock the latest Social hits as well as the classics. In August, D’Galaxy is off ering members a very special Vice-Chair, Key Administration deal. So crooners, don’t miss out on this promotion!

Gerad Loo, Hon. Treasurer What is music without movement? The Club organises regular dance events, Finance Swimming including the hugely popular Line Dance Tea Party and Social Dance Night. If you are not quite deft in your footwork yet, fret not. Join our dance classes and you Gope Ramchand can make nifty moves in next to no time. Membership Legal & Rules The Club organised the annual Thank You and Welcome Dinner on 8 July to dedicate our appreciation to those who have served in various capacities in the Wee Keng Pak previous year and to welcome fresh blood. To all outgoing Sub-Committee and Integrated Estate Services Ad-Hoc Committee members, I would like to register my heartfelt thanks for your

Simon Ong invaluable contributions. You have brought with you respective expertise and Sports great ideas as well as guided the Club management and staff to implement them eff ectively. Jonathan Wang Mediation On 9 August National Day, the Club will jubilate Singapore’s 51st birthday with Vice-Chair, Membership a carnival at Cabana. It will be a fun-fi lled day with lots of exciting activities for everyone, especially the children. Separately, Jade Phoenix has rolled out its Joyce Chan mooncake selection for this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, which includes new Lifestyle fl avours such as Black Sesame and Red Date & Longan. I have tasted some of David Chung these and I must say that they are really good. Marketing Communications I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Singaporeans a Happy National Yap Bau Tan Day and all Chinese members 中秋节快乐 (Happy Mid-Autumn Festival). Jackpot Gary Oon President 1 2 GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE

DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?

This catchphrase had been splashed across social media sites, following the well-known accident involving a Mediacorp actress at a housing estate car park. Her fi rst words to the owner of the stationary motorcycle that her car hit were, “Do you know who I am?” It was an embarrassing situation for her as the owner had no inkling of her identity.

“Do you know who I am?” is probably an appropriate question to strangers, when our authority is challenged. However, the question above should not be asked in a Family Club, as we should recognise one another by sight if not by name. Understandably, the huge membership and infrequent visits to the Club by some members make it impossible for everyone to know one another. However, we provide ample opportunities for you to know more fellow members through many Club Management activities, like our National Day Carnival on 9 August at Cabana.

Alfred Poon, General Manager [email protected] Music transcends language and culture. From February to March this year, a karaoke competition that spanned three weekends was held at D’Galaxy. The event Jennifer Wee, Financial Controller [email protected] attracted huge crowds and provided the perfect setting for everyone to socialise. You should take advantage of the 10% discount on all packages throughout Lily Tan, Director, Swim & Sports [email protected] August at D’Galaxy for your gatherings.

Johnny Wong, Director, F&B [email protected] Whether you prefer to dance or simply sip your drinks while chatting with fellow members, D’Tanjong is the perfect place for you to unwind. Enjoy live band Rajesh Kumar, Director, performances on Saturday by Joyce & The 3 0 and Sunday by Lanie & Zam. The IT & Innovation [email protected] elegant twirl of the ladies’ dancewear and the sure-footedness of the gentlemen gliding across the dance fl oor will make you want to raise your glass in glee. Bring Mylene Soh, Director, Human Resource your partner and savour your evenings here. [email protected] While mingling with one another over drinks at D’Tanjong, belting out a duet at Stanley Wong, Director, Member Experience D’Galaxy or playing a game of electronic darts at D’Sports, you will discover that [email protected] you are among family. It would not matter if someone took the chair you sat on

Patsy Seet, Senior Manager, earlier or moved your drink by mistake. Neither would you hover over another Secretariat, MC member while he or she uses the gym equipment hoping that member would [email protected] fi nish quickly. Instead, you should extend your courtesy to fellow members like Ken Lim, Senior Manager, one of the young men at the gym, who always meticulously wipes clean the Membership exercise machines after he fi nishes using them. Courtesy also means not carrying a [email protected] weight beyond your limit, only to have it crashing down on the gym fl oor with an Yuan ZaoYu, Head Coach, Swimming annoying bump. [email protected]

Genalyn Puzon, Manager, IES As you indulge in the many lighted-hearted moments with fellow members, you [email protected] will soon understand that this Club is not the place to ask, “Do you know who I Jenson Quek, Manager, Jackpot am?” as you would not want to be caught in a situation like the actress mentioned. [email protected] Remember, we are among Family. Happy National Day! Suhaimi Bin Agil, Manager, Security [email protected] Alfred Poon General Manager Erica Neo, Assistant Manager, Events [email protected] PS: More than 300 members and guests had a smashing good time at our Spanish Night on 25 June!
