You 've heard Giuseppe sing The GOlldoliers, written in 1889, is undoubtedly Gi lbert and Sulli van 's sunniest and brightest light opera. In a partnership which peaked early with H.M.s. Pilla/ore, rose to its ultimate - his cooking's even better! success with Th e Mikado and finall y petered out with the relatively unsuccessful The Gralld Duke, The GOlldoliers formed the triumph that the partners needed to set the seal on their inspired but rocky coll aboration. There was no reason to be other than optimistic for the bll future. But only a few months after the premiere the partnership collapsed due to the now famous quarrel over who was to pay fo r a new 34-36 Castle Terrace carpet for the foye r of the Savoy Theatre. Act I - The Piazzetta, Venice Act II - Pavilion in the Palace of Barataria Careth Jacobs was first introduced to G&S in Toronto in 1973 and has been a self­ proclaimed fanatic ever sin ce. In the past twenty-three years, including the last eight in The Singers ... Edi nburgh, he has sung in all the G&S operas. His role this year as Annibale marks Gareth's 37th Gilbert and/or Sullivan production. Last summer he and hi s wife, Eli zabeth, were James C. After her marriage in 1973, she did little singing until the fami ly moved to North Berwick in 1985. This is Fiona's Michael Ladomery. Of Italian/Australian nationality, Michael was born and grew up in first production with Edinburgh G&S Society and only her second appearance on the King 's Rome. From 1987 he studied for a BSc at Melbourne Uni versity, and in 199 1 came to St Theatre stage, her first being Southern Light Opera Company's 1996 production of Th e Andrews to do a PhD in Genetics. He started working as a research scientist in Ed inburgh Count of Luxembourg where she played Angele Didier. Other leading roles have included last year. Michael's interest in singing started in Melbourne, where he joined the Ormond Magnolia in Show Boal, Margot in Th e Deserl Song, Anna and Tuptim in Th e King and I (in College Choir (1989-1991) with which he toured Europe. Ann Heavens, originally from York, read Engli sh at Oxford, then taught for three years before coming to Edinburgh. She now has two chi ldren and teaches music and English Darren Coutts. Having started in musical theatre back in 1982 in Aberdeen, he did not tread pri vately. Her vari ed operatic repertoire includes title roles in Carmen, Patience, Th e Fair the Edi nburgh boards until 1993 when he played 'Curl y' in Oklahoma. Craig Macbeth first became in vo lved in amateur musicals 8 years ago when he joined the Cecilian Society of Glasgow Uni versity. He played the roles of Kipps in Half a Sixpence, Maureen Lee-Bourke started on the stage as a dancer an d progressed to singing aged 17 Sky in GllYs and Dolls, Adam in Rllddigore and Don Alhambra in The Gondoliers. He was in Ayr when she took minor principal and dancing rol es in La Vie Parisienne, Kismet, Die Musical Director for the Cecilian's 40th Anniversary Concert and later joined Forum Arts Fledermaus, COlin tess Maritza and Gigi. A career move, in 1989, to Cheshire saw her Society for their production of La Vie Parisienne. Craig now lives in Edinburgh, is a software joining the local society playing Irene Molloy in Hello Dolly, Casilda in Th e Gondoliers, engi neer and enjoys cooking and skiing. He is very pleased to be playing Antonio in hi s ellie Forbush in SOllth Pacific and Celia in Iolanthe. After a break in her stage pursuits first show with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Edinburgh. while in London, she returned nonh to get married and joined the chorus of Iolanthe last year while Alan, her husband, helped backstage.
