SIGNIFICANCE of BOWING

A bow signifies reverence & honor shown to the names or event being mentioned. We are to do the following: 1) A bow of the head is made when the three Divine Persons (the Trinity) are named together and at the names of Jesus, of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and of the Saint in whose honor Mass is being celebrated. 2) A bow of the body (a profound bow) is made during the Creed with the words “and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.” —General Instruction to the Roman Missal, #275

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

EXPOSITION of the BLESSED SACRAMENT: Follow the protocol which is posted at the entrance to the Immaculata Chapel. The Immaculata Chapel is closed Saturdays beginning at 6 pm until Sunday, 7:30am for intensive sanitizing. No one may enter during these hours. Thank you for your cooperation. Below are days/times where help is needed. To sign up, please contact Susie Charnock @ 281-813-1492. “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?...” Mt 26:40

Day of the week Hours Needed Monday 10 pm—11 pm NO ADORERS Tuesday 12 Midnight – 1 am Tuesday 3 am—4 am Tuesday 11 am—12 Noon Friday 9 pm—10 pm

Remember, Lord, those who have died and have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, especially those for whom we now pray. May these, and all who sleep in Christ, find in Your presence light, happiness and peace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

FEAST OF FAITH The Penitential Rite Standing together in the presence of the Lord, we acknowledge our weakness, our sins and faults and failings. But the penitential rite is really less about our sins than it is about God’s mercy. It is not a time for individual con- fession, like a mini-sacrament of reconciliation. It is, rather, a preparatory rite, preparing us to praise the mercy of Christ as we acknowledge our own weakness. When Simon Peter witnesses the miraculous catch of fish—when he realizes who is in the boat with him—he falls at Jesus’ feet with the words, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man” (Luke 5:8). We are like Peter. The more aware of the Lord’s presence we become, the more aware- ness we also have of our sinfulness, our weakness. The penitential rite of the Mass takes several forms, from the traditional Confiteor or “I confess” to a litany, spo- ken or sung by the deacon or cantor with responses by the entire assembly. The penitential rite always includes the words Kyrie, eleison; Christe, eleison—Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy. This ancient Greek prayer came to the Roman liturgy from the East, and still echoes in many of the litanies of the Eastern Rite Churches. These words turn our gaze from our own weakness to the gentleness, the kindness, the forgiving love of Christ. Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Test your grip on the reality of abortion.

Question 2: Polls show that most Americans support the policy of Roe v. Wade. True or False?

2. False. Some polls, e.g., a 2005 Harris Interactive poll, show majority support for Roe (52% in favor, 47% opposed), but only when they misrepresent Roe as “making abortions up to three months of pregnancy legal.” In the same poll, 72% of Americans said abortion should be illegal after the first trimester, and 86% said it should be illegal after the second trimester (responses in- compatible with Roe). Support for abortion even in the first trimester is questionable: In a 2004 Zogby poll, 61% of Americans said abortion should not be permitted after the fetal heartbeat has begun. This occurs less than 4 weeks after conception.
