MININGSBY. , a pleasant village and parish, 6 miles W. by S. of , and S.S.E. of , and 9 N.E. of , contains 444 souls, and 1230 acres of land. James Banks Stanhope, Esq., is lord of the manor, and owner of most of the soil. As subsequently noticed, Miningsby rivulet supplies Boston Water Works. The Church (St. Andrew) is an ancient dilapidated building, and the living is a discharged rectory, valued in K.B. at £9. Ss. 4!d., and now at £277. The Queen, as Duchess of Lan.. caster, is patroness; and the Rev. William Nevins is the incumbent, and has about 140 acres of glebe, including an allotment of 120 acres in the Fen. RAITHBY. RAITHBY, a small village, 2 miles N.W. of Spilsby, lias in its parish 202 souls, and 1l58A. 8R. 2P. of land, owned by several freeholders. The Rev. Edward Rawnsley is lord of the manor, and resides at Raithby Hall, a handsome mansion, with pleasant grounds, which he purchased in 1848, of the Bracken• httry family. The Elms is the commodious residence of George Walker, Esq., who also owns an estate here. The Church (Holy Trinity) is an ancient structure, consisting of nave, aisles, chancel, and a tower containing three bells. The benefice is a rectory, valued in K.B. at £6. 14s. '/d., and now at £301, in the gift of the Crown, and incumbency of the Rev. Thomas Greenland, who has 240 acres in lieu of tithes, and a good residence. Here is a small Methodist Chapel. The Free School was founded in 1683, by Thomas Lawford, for the education of poor children of Raithby, Mavis-Enderby, , and . The founder endowed it ·with a yearly rent-char~e of £6, besides which, the teacher has the dividends of £204. ls. 8d. three-and-a-half per cent. Consolidated Bank Annuities, purchased with a legacy left by Elizabeth Kirkbride, of Hull, in 1813, and also the interest of £100 left by John Dawson, in 1839. The school is now under the management of the Charity Commissioners. The hall estate is charged by unknown donors with the yearly payment of £1. lOs. tid. for church repairs, and £1. Ss. 4d. for the poor parishioners. Under the act passed in 1776, for enclosing the parish, lA. lR. 41>. ofland, in the West Sund Field, was allotted to the churchwardens, and the rent is expended in repairing the church. The Rev. REVESBY. REVESBY~ a pleasant village, 7 miles S.S.E. of Horncastle, 12 miles N. by W. of Boston, 8 miles \V.S.W. of Spilsby, and 7-l N.E. of Tattershall railway station, has a. pleasure fair on October 24th. Its parish has 4660 acres ofland, and 686 inhabitants, including the hamlets of Medlam and 11-Ioor House1, the latter of which is in the West Fen, on the south side of the parish, near Newham Drain, which is . navigable to the river Witham; both of those hamlets are believed to have been the dairy farms of the old Abbey. William de Romara, Earl of Lincoln, then lord of this manor, founded an ABBEY here for Cistercian monks, in 1142, dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Lawrence. This abbey received many subsequent benefactions, and, at the dissolution, its yearly revenues were valued at £34:9. 4s. lOd. It •
