NSWIS ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT The NSW Institute of Sport [NSWIS] supports Australian athletes to become world’s best. We are a nationally focused high- performance centre, Olympic and Paralympic training facility based at Sydney Olympic Park, reaching all regions of NSW. In partnership with the national high-performance sport system and national and state sporting bodies we enable, impact and support targeted athletes, coaches and performance support staff to prepare for international competition. Performance is at the centre of all that we do and our people are our greatest performance advantage. PADDLE AUSTRALIA ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT Paddle Australia (PA) is the peak body for canoe/ in Australia. It encompasses all the disciplines of the sport within Australia. Funded by the Australian Sports Commission, Paddle Australia is charged with delivering multi medal outcomes at Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and World Championships. NSWIS, along with other SIS/SAS programs, form an integral part of the National Athlete Pathway in ensuring the continual identification and development of canoe/kayak athletes through the provision of quality coaching, access to an excellent daily training environment and excellent performance support services.

ROLE PURPOSE The NSWIS Sprint Canoe Assistant Coach is responsible for the provision of high performance coaching services to targeted NSWIS scholarship athletes and targeted national emerging/talent athletes with the goal of optimising the performances of these athletes nationally and internationally at benchmark events.

1. In consultation with NSWIS Sprint Canoe Head Coach (NSWIS HC) and NSWIS management, NSO/SSO and Sport Partners, the role will primarily focus on the provision of assistant/backfill coach duties to support the NSWIS HC target medal potential athletes in Tokyo 2020: ▪ Support day to day on water coaching of Emerging level athletes in the NSWIS Narrabeen Hub Daily Training Environment (DTE) ▪ Provide operational support to the NSWIS Program ▪ Support NSWIS HC with senior categorized athletes’ competition and training ▪ Provide backfill for the NSWIS HC while on National duties

2. Delivery of high performance talent program for agreed and identified NSWIS talent athletes, more specifically: ▪ Talent transfer initiatives from surf to kayak in targeted areas of NSW ▪ Athlete identification and selection, in partnership with Paddle Australia, NSWIS and Sport Partners to achieve the performance outcomes of the sport and program

▪ Athlete performance planning, monitoring, review and evaluation to achieve agreed Individual Athlete Performance Plan [IPP] outcomes, incorporating any available performance services ▪ Providing direct coaching services to an identified group of athletes, emphasising high performance skills acquisition, while supporting athlete career and education pursuits and wellbeing. ▪ Achieving agreed athlete performance targets/outcomes and development targets with identified NSWIS talent athletes

3. Work in collaboration with Clubs, Regional Academies of Sport and Sporting Schools, under the direction of Paddle Australia’s National Pathways Manager, to support the implementation of a nationally integrated Talent Pathway across NSW: ▪ Develop strong relationships with identified Clubs, Regional Academy of Sport programs and Sporting Schools across NSW positioning the NSWIS Narrabeen Hub clearly within the pathway ▪ Drive Talent transfer and identification initiatives including, but not limited to, Surf to Kayak, Para cross-sport transfer across NSW

4. Assist the NSWIS HC to deliver a quality strategic sport plan that aligns to National/State Sport and NSWIS vision, values, success profile and agreed performance outcomes including considerations in key areas: ▪ Athletes and athlete pathway ▪ Coaching ▪ Leadership & Culture ▪ Athlete Allowance ▪ Daily Training Environment ▪ Competition ▪ Research & Innovation

5. Being a role model for surrounding coaches through exposure to a culture of excellence, an appropriate intensity of training, and expectations linked to achievement of performance targets and outcomes.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Operational Description Progression and ▪ In consultation with Paddle Australia, attract, develop and retain talented athletes to ensure Performance that athletes with the right skills and motivations are included in the NSWIS Sprint Canoe program. ▪ Coordinate the identification and nomination of athletes for NSWIS scholarship in accordance with NSWIS and Paddle Australia athlete selection criteria and processes. ▪ Develop, deliver and support effective IPPs for identified NSWIS athletes in consultation with NSWIS, Paddle Australia and Sport Partners. ▪ Monitor, review and communicate NSWIS scholarship athlete progression against IPPs every 6 months across 4 key areas: ➢ Competition ➢ Technical ➢ Physical ➢ Wellbeing Performance Excellence Excellence ▪ Monitor and review NSWIS scholarship athlete performance with the NSWIS Performance Team on a regular basis, identify gaps, then develop strategies to achieve IPP outcomes. ▪ Report on athlete performance and progress to the PPMG (6 monthly) and present an ‘Athlete Performance Dashboard’ with 3 key focus areas for each athlete to improve performance and address performance gaps Training Environment ▪ Promote a ‘high performance culture’ and commitment to continuous learning within the NSWIS Sprint Canoe program. ▪ In conjunction with the NSWIS performance team and allocated NSWIS Sport Leader, develop a service plan identifying program priorities and requirements with measures of effectiveness that relate to IPP targets, athlete gaps to performance and agreed sport performance outcomes. ▪ Effectively plan and coordinate through NSWIS, the delivery of quality services and resources for NSWIS athletes (as planned and agreed) to achieve compulsory requirements (annual medical, physiotherapy and athlete wellbeing and mental health screenings) and integrated performance outcomes in areas of: ➢ Physical preparation ➢ Technical ➢ Health & Wellbeing Strength and preparation Performance Conditioning Biomechanics Psychology Physiology Performance Personal Nutrition Analysis Excellence (Physiotherapy) Skill Acquisition Medical (Medical) Physiotherapy

Competitions ▪ Fulfil the role of NSWIS Sprint Canoe Assistant Coach as agreed whilst attending planned competitions with NSWIS athletes. ▪ In consultation with allocated Sport Leader, develop an effective plan for ‘cover’ when attending agreed NSWIS/National activities. Coach Development ▪ Develop an Individual Coach Performance Plan to align performance for success (6 monthly) & Professional in collaboration with NSWIS Sport Leader and Sport Partners. Excellence Planning ▪ Meet regularly (monthly or quarterly) with Sport Partners to discuss performance, monitor [PEP] progress and identify capability development opportunities. ▪ Proactively engage in the PEP process with all coaches within the NSWIS Sprint Canoe program. ▪ Commit to delivering on an agreed professional development plan, that aligns with the attached success profile, and mobilising the required resources. ▪ Provide coaching, technical advice, skill acquisition and leadership support to identified groups/teams of talent coaches (as agreed).

▪ Operations and ▪ Attend meetings with the Head Coach, NSWIS administrators, relevant coaches and Reporting performance team to review and report on program activities. ▪ In conjunction with the Head Coach and Sport Consultant liaise and report to Sport Partners through a joint management arrangement (using agreed software platform). ▪ Manage NSWIS Sprint Canoe program issues professionally in conjunction with the NSWIS Head Coach, allocated Sport Leader and program partners, as required. ▪ Professional management of facilities and resources, and effective financial and administrative coordination. ▪ Attend and where appropriate leads formal meetings. ▪ Ensure professional liaison and reporting (using AMS/other). ▪ HP Board reporting – update required components with quality input.
