    ACROSS THE NET Melton Table Tennis November 2018 Edition 50 50th EDITION, LOOKING FORWARD TO CELEBRATING, GAME THEORY, SMASHES, AND MUCH MORE YES !!! We made it to fifty! No looking back just yet. Always moving forward. In this edition we look at what’s happening for the rest of the year, get game on game theory, talk up our chances of world championships, look at what a big club looks like, and have a smashing time talking about smashing. THE TAIL END OF THE YEAR APPROACHES We are approaching the pointy end of proceedings for our Summer Season. With only a few rounds to go, we’ll be in to the finals before you know it, and the field is still wide open. The finals will get underway on the 22nd of November, with the Grand Finals being held on the 29th. We are still waiting on conformation of the date for the Melton – Werribee Challenge match. We’ve been getting a bit of a pasting in recent years, so it’ll be interesting to see how much we’ve improved. We’ll let you know when it is as soon as we find out. END OF YEAR CELEBRATIONS As has been the case for the past few years, our end of year knees-up will be held at Q-Lounge in Melton. This year’s event will be held on Thursday the 13th of December, and will kick off at around 7:00pm. Over 100 trophies will be presented on the night to some very deserving players. Again this year, we have organised a guest speaker to inform, amuse, and motivate you.

High-class people used to play table tennis after dinner. It was initially played by stacking books at the center of a table and hitting a golf ball with thick books. Table tennis needs a lot of attention and speed. Professional table tennis is played on a hard table which is divided by a net. Players stand opposite to each other, and hit a lightweight ball with a small round bat across the table. Spinning the ball makes the chances of hitting the ball a lot less. So, players tend to spin the ball before serving it to the opponent. Table tennis is played as singles as well as doubles. It is played in both men’s and women’s category. Table tennis is played by the rules set by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). Participating Countries Table tennis is not confined to England only. It is an Olympic sport and is played by many countries. Unlike any other sport, table tennis is governed by different governing bodies responsible for that particular continent’s table tennis.     Abteilung Tischtennis – Aktuelles 2009 - komplett (Januar – Dezember) GEK-Cup 2009 (Nachricht vom 26.12.2009) Auch in diesem Jahr trat der TSV beim GEK-Cup in Bettringen an. Wie auch im Jahr zuvor belegten Stefan Schier und Dennis Hönes in einem atemberaubenden Finale den ersten Platz im Doppel und verteidigten ihren Titel. Im Einzel mussten Stefan Schier und Dennis Hönes im Halbfinale gegeneinander antreten, welches Stefan Schier im 5. Satz mit 12:10 für sich entschied. Damit belegte Dennis den dritten Platz. Im Finale konnte Stefan Schier seinen Titel nicht verteidigen und unterlag mit 0:3. Damen sind Herbstmeister (Nachricht vom 19.12.2009) Die Damen bleiben in der Vorrunde ohne Verlustpunkt. Nach dem letzten Spiel beim Tabellenzweiten in Birkmannsweiler konnten sie die Herbstmeisterschaft feiern. Die Damen sind nach den Herren III das Zweite Team, dem das in dieser Saison gelingt. Die Chancen auf den Aufstieg in die Bezirksklasse stehen gut wie nie. Mehr dazu unter Spielberichte. Packende Kämpfe bei den Jugendvereinsmeisterschaften (Nachricht vom 19.12.2009) In einem langen Turnier spielte die Jugend des TSV ihre Vereinsmeister aus. Als Fazit bleibt stehen, dass es keinen Überflieger gibt, aber das Niveau insgesamt immer besser wird. Die Spieler pflegen eine "offene" und offensive Spielweise, so dass sich attraktive Spiele mit häufigen, langen Topspinduellen entwickelten. In der Altersklasse U18 gewann Denis Polenov vor Alex Hofmann, der die knappen Spiele gewann und sich Platz 2 sicherte. Max Delch, vom Alter her im letzten U15-Jahr, spielte bei U18 mit und landete knapp vor Moritz Vaihinger auf Platz 3. Bei den jüngeren wurde es ein längeres Turnier und nach weit über vier Stunden waren die Platzierungen ausgespielt.
