Blessed Josaphata, SSMI Josaphata Hordashevska was born Michaelina Hordashevska in the year 1869 in the city of Lviv, and lived until 1919, when she was called by the Lord. She was a Ukrainian Greek Catholic , and was the first member of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate. At the young age of 18, she decided to consecrate her life to God in a contemplative monastery of the Order of St. Basil the Great, which at that was the only Eastern-rite woman's congregation. The Basilians decided to establish a woman's congregation that focused on the active life, and Michaelina was elected to be the first leader of the order. When she agreed, she was sent to the Felician Sisters where she would gain experience in the active paramonastic life. Michaelina took the name "Josaphata", in honor of the Ukrainian martyr St. Josaphat Kuntsevych. She, being the first of the young sisters, trained them in the spirit and charisma of the Sisters Servants: "serve your people where the need is greatest". But regrettably at the age of 49, she died amidst terrible suffering from bone cancer. She was taken to Rome after her body was found to be incorrupt. She is buried in the generalate of the Sisters Servants in Rome. The process of her beatification started in Rome in 1983 and on June 27, 2001, she was beatified by John Paul II in Lviv. Numerous miracles are ascribed due to her intercession after her death.

The UCWLC will be selling Mary’s angels for $5.00 each as a memoriam. The angels cost $2.00 to purchase. $1.50 will go towards the Marian Hour on CKJS which is heard daily at 10:30 p.m. and the remaining profit of $1.50 will be donated to help support the day to day upkeep of the orphan teenage girls at the Home of Hope in Lviv, Ukraine. Please help us with this worthy project by buying an angel. US and Canada Ukrainian Catholic held meeting in Parma

Holodomor Memorial Day Saturday, November 22, 2014 at City Hall 1:30 - 4:00 pm

The Holodomor is the name given to the genocide by famine that occurred in Ukraine from 1932 to 1933. As many as 10 million Ukrainians perished as victims of a man-made famine under Joseph Stalin’s regime, with 25,000 dying each day at the peak of the famine. The name Holodomor is the Ukrainian word for "plague of hunger" or “death inflicted by starvation” derived from two words, “holod” – starvation/famine and “moryty” – to inflict death. Let us remember that this year Ukraine and the world will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the memory of the victims of the Holodomor - Genocide of 1932-33. This tragic page remains an unhealed wound in the history of our people. The memory of millions of lost lives, the pain of hundreds of thousands of families, unites most of the citizens of Ukraine, who always on the fourth Saturday of November light a candle of remembrance and go to the memorial places in Kyiv and in their cities and villages. This memory actively contributes to social peace and understanding among people, united by a shared pain about the past and a hope for the future.
