Redskins Alumni Present: a Charity Celebrity Golf Tournament & Dinner to Take Place on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Country Club of Fairfax in Fairfax, Virginia WALKING WITH ANTHONY & THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS ALUMNI PRESENT: A CHARITY CELEBRITY GOLF TOURNAMENT & DINNER TO TAKE PLACE ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2013 AT THE COUNTRY CLUB OF FAIRFAX IN FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA Former Washington Redskin Doc Walker To Broadcast His Radio Show Live On ESPN 980 During The Golf Tournament And Will Serve As Emcee For The Dinner WASHINGTON, DC – July 17, 2013 – Walking With Anthony, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries (SCI), and the Washington Redskins Alumni are teaming up to host the Walking With Anthony & Washington Redskins Alumni ChaRity CelebRity Golf TouRnament & Dinner at the prestigious Country Club of Fairfax, in Fairfax, Virginia on Monday, October 21, 2013. The inaugural fundraising event, which will benefit those affected by spinal cord injuries, begins at 9:30 a.m. and will feature a fabulous day of golf alongside Washington Redskins greats including Hall of Famer Charley Taylor, Former NFL league MVP Mark Moseley and other legendary sports celebrities and VIP guests. Former Washington Redskin and local radio personality, Rick “Doc” Walker, will broadcast his radio show live on ESPN 980 during the golf tournament and will serve as the emcee for the dinner. Walker was a starting tight end for Coach Joe Gibbs 1982 World Championship Washington Redskins and is currently the sideline reporter for the Washington Redskins, co-host of Inside the Locker Room with Brian Mitchell weekdays from 2pm to 4pm on ESPN 980 (Washington, D.C.) and host of Doc Walker’s ProView, on MASN. Some of the other Redskins Alumni who have been invited include Roy Jefferson, Mike Bragg, Ron McDole, Pat Fischer, Dexter Manley, Brig Owens, Ted Vactor, Mike Nelms, Rich Milot and Larry Brown. The day will culminate with a dinner reception at 5:30 p.m. honoring Dr. John Starr, world renowned leader in complex spinal surgery. More details about the golf and dinner events are itemized in the calendar listing below. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Walking With Anthony & The Washington Redskins Alumni ChaRity CelebRity Golf Tournament & Dinner will benefit Walking With Anthony, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the impact of SCI, raising funds to provide financial assistance for SCI victims, expand rehabilitation centers and supporting research relating to SCI rehabilitation. Walking With Anthony was inspired by Anthony Purcell who was paralyzed after a diving accident in Miami Beach. Determined to beat the odds, Anthony quickly began intense rehabilitation which helped him get stronger, healthier, more independent, and come closer to his goal of being able to walk again. As a result of his experience, Anthony and his mother, Micki Purcell, created Walking With Anthony, a foundation to help give others with SCI the same chance at recovery. In addition to honoring Dr. Starr during the dinner reception, Walking With Anthony will present financial grants to two spinal cord injury patients - Erica Predum and Chris Utz – to help with financial assistance so they can get become healthier, stronger and gain independence. Event golfers will also have the opportunity to participate in the Jet Blue Challenge -- a “Hole in One” contest (on four par 3 holes) with a chance to win a Five Day/Four Night Travel Vacation from Jet Blue. If a “Hole in One” is not made during the tournament, the four golfers that came closest to the pins on the par three holes will participate in a subsequent “Hole in One” challenge with the chance to win $50,000 -- with the “Hole in One” recipient receiving $25,000 and $25,000 being donated to Walking With Anthony. But the organization’s glorious past dates back almost 60 years and includes five world championships overall and some of the most innovative people and ideas the game has ever known. From George Preston Marshall to Jack Kent Cooke, from Vince Lombardi to Joe Gibbs, from Sammy Baugh to John Riggins, plus the NFL’s first fight song, marching band and radio network, the Redskins can be proud of an impressive professional football legacy. George Preston Marshall was awarded the inactive Boston franchise in July 1932. He originally named the team “Braves” because it used Braves Field, home of the National League baseball team. When the team moved to Fenway Park in July 1933, the name was changed to Redskins. A bizarre situation occurred in 1936, when the Redskins won the NFL Eastern division championship but Marshall, unhappy with the fan support in Boston,moved the championship game against Green Bay to the Polo Grounds in New York. Their home field advantage taken away by their owner, the Redskins lost. Not surprisingly, the Redskins moved to Washington, D.C., for the 1937 season. Games were played in Griffith Stadium with the opener on September 16, 1937, being played under flood lights. That year,Marshall created an official marching band and fight song, both firsts in the National Football League. That season also saw the debut of “Slinging Sammy” Baugh, a quarterback from Texas Christian who literally changed the offensive posture of pro football with his forward passing in his 16-season career.

LOUIS -- In 2006-07, the Missouri Valley Conference celebrates a century of excellence as the nation’s second-old- est NCAA Division I conference begins its second centennial as a leader in college athletics. As a part of the Centennial Celebration, The Valley is naming all-centennial teams for each of the Valley’s sponsored sports. Team composition for football has been determined by a centennial committee and members of the Football Writer’s Association of America. Included in the list are former NFL greats, Heisman Trophy finalists, and 14 members of the College Football Hall of Fame. A total of 80 former Valley greats (68 players and 12 coaches) on the all-time list made significant contributions to the game of football, either while in the Missouri Valley Conference or in their post-collegiate careers. In the league’s first 99 seasons, inclusive of all MVC-sponsored sports, 32 members combined for 27 national champi- onships, while 55 Valley student-athletes captured NCAA individual titles. In addition, Valley student-athletes and coaches earned 48 National Player or Coach of the Year honors in their respective sports. And the league had a myriad of student- athletes who collected All-America honors and earned national academic distinction in The Valley’s first century. FOOTBALL (sponsored 1907 to 1985): Twenty-nine different programs sponsored football in the Missouri Valley Conference in its 78 years as a conference sport.
