Q2.10_6_TEXT - Other reason

Other reason

Connection to the "ncsu" network was weak from my room.

does not reach the house

Wanted an off site remote backup for my computer.

Roommate couldn’t connect NCSU and eduroam networks often didn’t work, which makes sense when you look at how many people were expected to use the same network. Couldn’t use printer or chromecast or home because it was almost like NCSU wouldn’t allow anyone to use anything except for their own network which was spotty at best

After using the elevator it took a few seconds to reconnect to the NCSU wifi, so often i would just use data instead

Needed the ability to hook up multiple computers, and my Nintendo Switch cannot play online games through the NCSU connection.

Mainly for buying concert tickets from Ticketmaster

Couldn't use Chromecast and didn't want wireless printer on NCSU network.

Too lazy to log in

Host server, needed router control. was not previously offered, already had box

It gave me more of a single beam focus for when using internet in my room.

"ncsu" can sometimes be spotty here.

Not within connection range at coffee shop

Needed more security, as well as NCSU and Eduroaming not being very reliable, and said networks much slower than personal networks

Could not connect wireless printer or streaming device, ncsu and eduroam networks were not reliable

NCSU network not reliable and also I had a wireless printer.

In order to use my printer, I needed a router that I could directly connect with since it connects over WiFi.

Needed more security and also so that we were able to utilize our wifi outside of just the common areas.

Network unreliable between buildings, inaccessible across other campus networks (cannot connect to eduroam).

To use personal printer

My router acts as an external hard drive as well. It is more convenient to just connect to it.

I have smart devices that proved difficult t9 add to Nomad

More security and use of google Chromecast.

Combination of factors: needed secure access to Ethernet printer, Network based backups (100's of GB per month), use of internet-insecure protocols (VNC, AFP, etc.)

Needed Chromecast, Google home and wireless printing to work

I want everything on the same network so I can more easily manage it

I cannot connect to eduroam anywhere on any device. Also, every time I lock my phone I get disconnected from any wifi I am on.

It would cut out randomly without warning

Would disconnect randomly from all devices, but worked for the majority of the time

its not always reliable.

Nothing else, it was all fine.

The NCSU connection wouldn’t let me connect to it. I tried to gwr my phone onto eduroam but it didn’t work.

Good level of reliability, sometimes spotty

On rare occasions my devices wouldn’t pick up the WiFi

sometimes speed is really slow

Wouldn't connect by itself automatically (even with the Nomad thing)

Lost connection multiple times

Sometimes the WiFi goes out or it’s a weak signal

The wifi would cut of randomly.

Sometimes the wifi connection would be extremely slow or not working at all.

hard time connecting phone to wifi

At times it could be slow, and towards the end of the semester, it had trouble connecting.

It cuts out every now and then and I have to disconnect and reconnect

10/10

I haven’t been able to connect to the school WiFi at all this academic year

mine would never automatically connect to ncsu. it would automatically connect to ncsu-guest and not work on that so everytime, i would have to reconnect

sometimes would randomly be slow

There were several occasions that the internet went down.

It should be allowed to connect just once. Every time we have to connect it

Sometimes weak wifi in the bathrooms

Could be very slow sometimes Sometimes connection and speeds were slow

I have to restart my wifi adapter all the time in order to stay connected to the internet

It could be a little faster.

It randomly disconnected quite often; I also had to re-login with my laptop almost every time, even though I had it set up through the website to not have to

I would have put 'ver satisfied' but there were a few times when it seemed like the ncsu Wi-fi just didn't exist, unfortunately these were the times when I needed it the most. sometimes it would straight up not connect to any website. It was a bit weak.

Some times "eduroam" would cut out but then be fine. The speed was constant so that's nice

It's fine in our room specifically, but in Bragaw as a whole, eduroam is actually trash

It worked most of the time but sometimes connection was poor

It was great for the first semester, but we had a lot of issues in the second semester with speed and it working just in general. There were many times I had to turn my wifi off just to get the internet to load. ncsu was very spotty throughout the entire semester

High speed internet. Really satisfied that you could maintain the quality with that many users.

Ocassionally the internet would disconnect at random times and cause me to log back into my account.

Continues to go out

It would randomly stop working well at 2/3am most nights and become super slow

Cuts out randomly and often weakens.

The wireless was very poor, most of the time. Both from my own router and the ncsu as well.

Went in and out sometimes

It's annoying that we can't do LAN networks on video games

Internet was much inproved from last year. Overall excellent quality

Inconsistent

This internet is the good stuff

Wireless gets iffy, especially on my phone (which could be more my phone's fault) but otherwise there were occasionally times when it was just slow on my laptop and other residents had similar issues

It would go out often, or sometimes it would be completely fine according to my devices, but the internet would still be out. Also, I could never get my xbox connected to the school wifi despite entering and re-entering its MAC address on my list of registered devices repeatedly.

Great service once I am still in a building. Once I walk around a building, or to a new building, the service will give out until I disconnect and reconnect.

Wifi would randomly cut out. I would have to restart in order to reconnect.

It's nice having wifi available, however having to sign in every time I return to my dorm is annoying. Sometimes the ncsu network will not work at all for hours at a time.

Constantly disconnecting.

We occasionally (very seldom) had an issue where the internet would just stop working. This occurred once or twice. It corrected in less than an hour and I could resume work.

I have to verify my certificate anytime my computer disconnects from eduroam, but I think this is an error on my end.

My phone doesn't tend to actually stay connected to Eduroam very long. It doesn't have any problem with other networks.

The wireless signal cuts out every so often

The set up is confusing but one I got it there were no problems

Sometimes, very rarely, the internet would drop for no reason.

Ethernet in my room doesn’t always work

The upload and download speeds of the ethernet connected to a box in the wall was inconsistent. In the beginning of the 2017-18 school year I was getting an upload/download speeds in the hundreds MBPS. But as the year went on, the speeds went down over time. Now I am at 80-ish MBPS.

Was always a strong connection sometimes has random connection issues, but not very often

Noticed speed decreases throughout the year. As well as my computer that was wired never seemed to be remembered by the network.

The wireless connection was noticeably slower than the Ethernet connection and less reliable for downloading/streaming.

As someone who plays online games, wireless proved ineffective at providing a stable and fast enough connection. Direct ethernet was the only way to make that work.

Make it so it doesn't kick me off all the time and shut down kept switching to ncsu-guest when I was trying to use ncsu

It disconnects on its own sometimes.

There were many times when I would be connected to eduroam and have full "bars" but nothing would load on my phone

I had to manually click and connect every time I opened my computer. It then took a while to connect. Very inconvenient.

It would randomly cut out sometimes just in my room. Especially for my phone

Can't LAN play or use wireless printer which I'm subscribed to. Moving off campus.

I had a difficult time connecting my phone to the guest wireless.

N/A

Generally good, but sometimes it did not work/was real slow

The wifi was never slow or unavailable in my dorm room.

Very spotty and slow at times. sometimes it took like 5 min to connect after connecting my laptop to the ethernet cable i was unable to connect to the wifi at any residence hall on campus unless my laptop was plugged into the cabl

I always have to log into securelogin.aruba despite register my ethernet connected device to nomad

The NCSU became a little more unreliable the back half of the year, but the NCSU guest was always a great backup!

The network can be spotty at times, takes a while to load or times out.

The WiFi tends to go in and out

Good ping!

Sometimes had weak signal

Eduroam sometimes is overrided by NCSU and NCSU is not as quality

In previous years I complained about speed and buffering. That hasn't been the case anymore since the updated system of having one per room. Eduroam has multiple certificates from when one expired on my computer. So it makes me select the certificate every time I connect which is annoying. I want to get rid of the old one.

It was fine overall. However, my schedule often required me to work very late into the night (sometimes up to ~3AM) during which it was much more spotty. I understand if it is meant to weaken a bit during that time of day to save power/energy/whatever, but it was still an inconvenience

While it worked most of the time during tours especially, the wifi went down and was a problem for assignment

I couldn't access certain websites on eduroam but I could on my personal router.

Did not quite fill the whole suite there were dead spots in the rooms

The internet would often lag out when I would use it for video calls, allowing me to see the person I was talking to but freezing the image of me. I also used eduroam on my PC rather than my MacBook, and I have not been able to connect my MacBook to eduroam connection dropped sometimes but for the most part was very fast and good!

Sometimes it was very slow/didn’t work, or it would turn off for a couple minutes and I’d have to disconnect and reconnect for it to come back

There are sometimes when the connection will be slow, I don't know what the issue is it was mostly good. a few times it was a little slow/bogged down but it was usually temporary

Sometime the internet would randomly disconnect but if only happened occasionally. Overall, the Internet was at a decent speed to complete homework assignments and to stream videos.

The NCSU WiFi is not reliable in the lounge.

It's hard to wire into an access point when they are so high up. Not sure moving them is easy, but it's a long term suggestion.

Have more boosters around the elevators

Nope.

The NCSU one will randomly disconnect at times which is annoying but it provides relatively fast wifi.

Internet access would go out fairly regularly especially on "ncsu"

Doesn't work well for streaming or downloading Overall was really good until finals week when you suddenly had to log into nomad every time you moved from room to room. sometimes the service can be spotty enduram works sometimes and sometimes it doesnt

It's better than my wifi at home, so I'm happy. Almost always reliable, besides a couple days, which are definitely exceptions internet connection is fine for the most part, sometimes it can get very bogged down

The "ncsu" network would often lose connection repeatedly during the day and require me to manually reconnect to it.

Lived at coastal quarters in MHC was provided WiFi, it went out a few times daily

I often had to reconnect to the wifi periodically.

Maybe some information for international students. e.g how to use all the device tools that we have in the apartment. :)

Connection was good and consistent; no blackouts, man that would have been bad i there are especially on a project night the ncsu wifi would always cut out and then i would have to reconnect a lot

Average Ethernet speed about 150 Mbps

The wifi across greek court is very spotty.

The connection speed would drop occasionally, but not too often. Otherwise, good.

It was strong and fast, no real complaints

During finals , the wifi always seems to be down to the high usage. Throughout the school year, it isn't reliable.

Sullivan sucks, and so does the wifi in my room.

The wifi was usually great but sometimes it would be a bit spotty. connection would often be spotty, kind of just going out for a few seconds. usually not a big problem, mostly just an inconvenience when working through a vpn for my program's practicum project

Sometimes would lose my connection when on “ncsu”

Connection can be poor sometimes

Had reinstall cloudpass multiple times on my phone to get eduroam to work.

Eduroam didn't start working for me until the second semester, so I often relied on ncsu or ncsu guest which were sometimes slow.

Would disconnect at random times

With very few exceptions, I was always able to get on the internet and the Wi-Fi was high speed. Some websites gave me trouble, especially when trying to order concert tickets. I am not sure why there seems to be a problem getting on sites like Ticketmaster, but it may be something worth looking into.

This wi-if works better than that at my own family home! I loved being able to also access the wi-if on campus making it easy to work on assignments in any location.

None at this time. it does not work well on cellular device Wireless in the apartment was great, the only problem I had all semester was the Ethernet cables didn’t work. Plugging stuff into the wall didn’t work to connect it to the internet.

The ncsu-guest network always presented certificate errors to my fiancee when she visited. She had difficulty getting to the sign-in page as a result of this.

Sometimes it would stall with no notification.

Sometimes the “NCSU” signal would act a little strange, but this was easily fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting.

Sometiimes eduroam flickers out but it hasn't been doing it a lot . Only on a few occasions.

Lack of signal in my room and bathroom sometimes

Wireless is sometimes very slow.

There were times where the internet went out, though not on a regular basis

Most of the time, the internet speed was great. Occasionally, however, it was still difficult to use services such as Skype.

Ethernet connections do not work immediately even if the device is enrolled in eduroam and nomad. Instead it takes us to the same login page as the "ncsu" wifi does first. Whenever we want to connect via ethernet we have to login.

Sometimes very slow and on portions of campus especially west campus was unable to use internet

Sometimes the WiFi would completely cut out for hours, and would occasionally struggle to connect to my laptop specifically, while other times dropping my phone off the network involuntarily

At some times during the day the internet tends to slow down. Othertimes the internet is fast. It might slow down because so many people are on it, but I’m not certain. If this could be fixed that would be great. Thanks.

I like eduroam, but at the moment having to install things is a lot of trouble.

There were occasional issues with the internet stability.

It would randomly cutout for me and my friends on our devices, but it was only in my room for some reason.

N/A

Near the beginning of the year I got back after going home one weekend and my laptop didn’t automatically connect to NCSU anymore. Every time I closed my laptop and opened it again I would have to log into the internet and I could never figure out why

Eduroam was very spotty, on and off

None eduroam would often disconnect so I would end up needed to connect to the ncsu network. this happened quite frequently so I stopped trying to use eduroam.

Having to enter my username and password every time I use the wifi on my phone was a pain. (Whether in my room or out on campus)

I never had any issues with connection in my room in the dorm which was a blessing

N/A

Make the WiFi compatible for printers to connect

Sometimes goes down and have no internet connection. Slow at some points as well, but overall. Has been good Eduroam keeps on disconnecting even though the profiles are updated on my devices automatic connection to ncsu iPhone won't connect to eduroam

The eduroam works wonderfully but occasionally may computer would say there was no wifi and I would have to reconnect it to the eduroam network.

No issues at syme. But last year in Welch hall, I had many issues

So frequently disconnected and super slow during evening time

I could connect to the ncsu wifi in my room, but if another student entered my room and tried to connect, they could not connect to ncsu or ncsu-guest.

Eduroam hasn't been very reliable this semester, but when it is working it usually has good speed.

Bogged down at times

It seems like recently, in the last few weeks, the internet has gotten much slower across all my devices

It sometimes was slow

Some days the connection wouldn't be as good as other days. I had a few times where it disconnected entirely, but overall worked great throughout the year.

I don't know which one I am supposed to use

Connection in Bragaw was excellent.

It is spotty at times and could be better

I tried to use the "ncsu" wifi a couple of times on my phone but it would constantly disconnect and I'd have to sign back in over and over again. Eventually I just stopped because it was pointless. Otherwise on my laptop it worked perfectly fine.

I have problems with ncsu. It will stop working randomly and I have to turn off my wifi connection and then reconnect for it to work for extended periods of time

There are times when the WiFi goes out for a few minutes. Overall, the WiFi is pretty fast though.

It was very splotchy and didn’t work half the time

Some suite mates on the other side of the complex had occasional wifi issues, but I never did.

Needs better coverage outside. It would be REALLY NICE to be able to access the 'ncsu' network while on a Wolfline bus.

It dropped packets or something pretty often, my games would drop connection rather often

Possible Ethernet cables that can be rented from service desk.

Connection was frequently disrupted thanks

Has gotten laggy or takes forever to reconnect

Better than home wifi

Every once in a while it's slow or goes out but overall it's very reliable. It sometimes randomly cuts out, but not for long periods.

The signal from my room for eduroam is terrible

Poor connection outside Syme in the pavilion

I thought the WiFi worked very well. The only issue I had was toward the end of the year when it would disconnect me from the WiFi every time my laptop fell “asleep.”

Somtimes the internet drop

Make it easier to use other devices that aren't smart enough to realize you need authenticate, sometimes even cyclone doesn't work.

At a certain time ar night, the wifi would stop working

I thought the download speed was great. Overall great internet speed.

Was wonderful until the end of the year it cut out a lot

The ping is reliable for the most part but it tends to spike at times in multiple video games. Also does drop randomly sometimes.

It would work most of the time, but the internet was pretty slow.

Keep it the way it is; it works great

Extremely fast and stable

A lot of the times the connection would drop. sometime it takes long time to connect even if i turn wifi off and one

Eduroam was unreliable at times in my apartment

I mean yeah having good internet in the room was really important but I also spent a lot of time right outside of the building and that’s where I am currently and I had to disconnect from WiFi to connect to this survey.

The last couple weeks of school, my computer had to be reconnected to WiFi Everytime I opened it. Also it became a little spotty.

It cuts of once a week or so

For some reason, there are times when the wi-fi will oscillate between on and off every five minutes. I'd have to disconnect from the network and reconnect for it to work properly.

Eduroam randomly stops working and hence have to switch between ncsu and eduroam. I have a chromecast which I registered with nomad and it still won’t connect with ncsu after waiting for a month. I had to plug in a router to the lan port for it to work

It connected most of the time but sometimes the internet was slow or did not work at all

Phone would constantly disconnect from ncsu, even though it was registered

Just keep improving and nobody will ever complain! Super quick speeds, even with everyone hogging bandwidth on Netflix etc

Im very satisfied with the Wi-Fi quality in my room, however, the WiFi quality in Talley student Union is kinda terrible at times.

Sometimes connection dropped

Slowed down at random times but usually fast Internet is too expensive

Sometimes the internet would randomly disconnect or the speed would drop and cause sites to load slowly or for videos to start buffering eduroam used to be fine, but recently it started failing constantly sometimes disconnects

Bandwidth speeds varied greatly and would drop in and out of throughout the day

It is fine most of the time but sometimes it won't work at all and i just have to use LTE from my cell phone provider. Also, it is very difficult to connect printers to the wireless network. I still haven't figured out how to do that.

Sometimes it would disconnect and I would have to manually reconnect it through my phone or computer, but otherwise I was happy with the speed

EDUROAM will sometimes go out for a few minutes, other than that it was great

I have noticed that the eduroam wireless network is less reliable in my dorm room. Oftentimes, I will have to switch from eduroam back to the ncsu network in order to have a stable connection.

The internet was great, but at times the internet would kick you off or drop to an unusable quality of internet.

I never experienced any issues with the wireless connections throughout the 2017-2018 school year.

Occasionally the connection would bottleneck, but for 95% of the time it was fine.

Only cut off twice this semester

Very weak connection constantly stopped working.

During the beginning of the year, connectivity would occasionally cease, but this improved over time, though I am not sure of the reason. I also found that Google Smart products (chromecast, home mini) were unable to use the network, even after their mac addresses were added, for unknown reasons. it was a very weak signal and disconnected/ lost connection often

With some computors, the wireless wifi has trouble connecting. It can take up to five minutes just to connect. Afterwards it performs alright

Sometimes it lags, but overall it is good.

The connection is often slow and not always stable

Sometimes it says it is connected but it really isn't? I say this because nothing loads on my devices even though it says connected.

N/A

My phone used to automatically switch to different eduroam hotspots more easily than it does now

I find when streaming voice calls through discord it seems to be much less consistent in speed for some reason compared to other streaming

I find my devices constantly disconnecting from the networks, which is rather frustrating for me.

Eduroam access setup doesnt work on mobile on android won't connect to my phone while in Welch

Sometimes eduroam would not work, so I would have to switch to one of the others until it work again. This also sometimes happened with the other two servers. Eduroam never connects and ncsu is spotty

Sometimes would go out or not recognize my device but other than that it was great.

The wireless network at the apartment has an issue with occasionally dropping coverage for a few minutes at a time. Not super often but quite annoying when it happens

The way the connection is set-up makes it harder to connect gaming consoles. eduroam had a lot more trouble working than what is ideal

Not always a strong connection; often have to reconnect

Eduroam worked for me in the fall semester, but since spring semester, I have almost exclusively relied on the ncsu network. I am not sure why eduroam does not work for me on campus anymore. However, eduroam works for me on UNC's campus.

I never did figure out how to connect my xbox to the internet. Not wireless, but my computer didn't reconize the ethernet when I plugged it in (I regulary use it at home).

N/a

The WiFi would bump in and out of connection occasionally

N/A

Whenever my phone would lock it would disconnect from the WiFi and I’d have to manually reconnect it.

The wireless networks provided by NC State have mostly been consistently fast in speed, and I rarely had interruptions in my connections. for the most part it was good, but there would be times it'd get really slow

NCSU guest wifi keeps disconnecting. Also, the signal is a little weak in Valley hall.

N/A

When I was having problems connecting my computer to the wireless network the technicians didn't even bother to help they told me to buy a new adapter when I ended up figuring out the VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION on my own after giving up on getting help from them.

Wireless in wolf ridge apartments was sub par and not the best quality. sometimes disconnects for some reasons or unable to connect to my phone

Reliability is very sparse in some areas at Wolf Ridge and centennial campus in general. I often have to use my persona hotspot when the internet randomly goes out. have 1 wifi instead of 2

It would disconnect randomly. But strong service

Sometimes the internet signal drops out.

Make wifi compatible with chrome cast

It is very slow sometimes it quits and it’s inconvenvient I found the eduroam service in particular to be very finnicky and weak, often dropping in and out while I was in a single location (my room). The standard NCSU wifi works great, but I cannot use it (or eduroam) on devices such as Kindles that do not have web browsers to navigate to a login screen. I have no complaints with the wired connection. It has been flawless as far as I am concerned, and it is my primary source of internet. eduroam is very slow and disconnects frequently

Always worked really well

Much better than the crystallizing copper cables back home

Eduroam dies in the bathroom.

Couldn't connect to eduroam about once a month. the ncsu did not always work. eduroam worked better but I still had better luck using the data on my phone

NCSU force logged me out, and Chrome/other browsers weren't allowing me to log back in because it reported it back as unsafe. Please fix that. I had a hard time.

Cut out occasionally, WiFi Definitely slower than Ethernet, gaming consoles could not fully connect. eduroam had great ping (8) for gaming

Towards the end of the semester, upon opening a browser I would have to go to advanced settings to allow the browser to navigate to the login page where I would type in my ID and password. Previously this never happened it automatically connected without having to login on my registered devices (which is why I registered them). I know at least half a dozen other people who I have seen this exact thing happen to. Please fix this! :)

Wifi wasn't bad, no problems

Last year i did not have the wifi box in my room and it was very hard to study / do homework.

There was two time throughout the school year where it seemed like the WiFi had gone out for a little while in a part the floor that I was on.

Eduroam doesnt register correctly on my computer.

The wifi would not connect for the first two or three months of the school year. It then began to connect, however, it was slow and unreliable. These past few weeks it has not been working at all, making it very difficult to do anything online.

The box is in the other corner of the room, so had to get a very large cable to wrap around the entire room

None

Much, much better than last year.

I do not like that I have to sign back in after a certain amount of time (even if I do not leave the wifi area)

Depending on total load on the network, the actual speeds of it vary greatly from satisfactory to quite unpleasant

My computer will say that it's "looking for networks" multiple times per week, and the wifi stops working for 5-10 minutes at a time.

At least once or twice a day, I randomly lose connection, and I have to reconnect. This has been detrimental for some of my online Moodle quizzes.

Sometimes it was very difficult to utilize my ncsu wireless connection in online video game matches. It was very inconsistent regarding when it would work versus not work. I think this could have potentially been a bandwidth issue, but it was unclear.

I had trouble connecting my smart tv and play station to the wifi. I could NEVER connect them to EDUROAM

During the beginning of the academic year, the WiFi was quite suttery and took a long time to connect to a website. Would cut out randomly every now and then the internet connection (wireless network) was at times slow and would sometines, although rarely, disconect from my laptop while i was taking online test.

Typically ncsu has very strong wifi access, occasionally I will have issues with the internet seemingly going out.

There were multiple times when the WiFi would not work.

There haven't been any internet problems for a while and it very fast. slow, sometimes disconnects,

I never had any issues with the wifi, it was perfect!

WiFi is hit or miss, sometimes it works well, other times it lags a lot

For the ncsu network, it cuts out sometimes when I'm moving through the building. It does okay, though, other than that.

Better than the one st my house

The internet here is faster than the internet at home.

It is disappointing that the Amazon Echos do not work with NC State's wireless.

The phones wouldn’t connect and it was overall very slow on the computers

Didn’t work at all on my phone at the beginning of the year so I had to whitelist it on my computer first.

The internet was almost always incredibly fast and wonderfully efficient!

Wish it was faster

Ethernet connection was very consistent in the room, but at times it felt the wireless was inconsistent.

The internet always worked for me, I have had no issues!

There are sections of the building where connection just drops off. For example, that bathroom "ncsu" connection disconnects while I listen to music

The "ncsu" wireless network has always been superb for me this year.

The wifi started going in and out toward the end of the year but till then it was fine

They would times that the internet would just completely jump off by itself. I would have to reset the router for the internet to come back on. Some times the internet could be really slow and take some time to load certain pages.

Sometimes spotty depending on if there are more than two people, or if a roommate is pulling more than the other.

It disconnected a lot

The ncsu on muni phone wasn’t very reliable but was pretty good on my laptop ncsu and eduroam are both spotty in room and liable to go in and out at times. sometimes I lose wireless service in the bathroom

Despite being present everywhere, would often be disconnected from wireless intermittently Automatic connection was spotty occasionally, signal drops sometimes

Ethernet did not work when I tried to use it.

Drops at night were common on eduroam

At the end of the year my eduroam started disconnecting at random times and when I would go to class.

Sometimes it disconnects my device

N/A

Phone would sometimes lose connection to WiFi every now and then

There were some rooms in the building where the signal was terrible, specifically the first floor den which is a study space.

The white box would sometimes reset on my computer and it was hit or miss if it would allow me on without signing in. All of the devices I used were registered on nomad.

Eduroam kept disconnecting from my computer durring classes where the internet is needed the wifi stops working

Eduroam doesn’t have great signal in WR.

Occasionally the internet would just cut out or kick me off and random times

Internet would cut out occasionally on my iPhone. connection should be strong and always consistent

The wifi has also been very useful to improving call quality in the residence halls

Sometime would become unresponsive, but not a consistent enough issue to cause too much bother

Sometimes it kicks users off the internet in the middle of an assignment and this is somewhat annoyig because you lose all your progress

My eduroam does not work

Perhaps allow wireless connections to a video game console instead of through an Ethernet cable and make a way to connect printers so that I can print wirelessly

It occasionally goes out randomly. And sometimes it lags and most of the time it can be work withing and then it's unresponsive. eduroam was a little spotty sometimes to the point where I had to use LTE on my phone i would sometimes get disconnected

Sometimes it would cut out randomly for like 10-15 minutes

The only reason i used ncsu guest was because the main ncsu wifi would stop working and i had to downgrade

Many days it was slow, lagging, or didn’t even show up under wifi connection settings. resulted in me and my roommate having to use cellular data and hotspots at times.

Disconnects a lot When connected the service was great, but oftentimes it would log me out and make me connect to nomad again and say I didn't have service which was a major pain.

Eduroam can be sometimes painfuly slow 0.5 mbps at times while ncsu remains at full speed.

The wireless is fast but it occasionally lags so it can be bad for gaming.

It connects automatically

Other than the occasional outage, which is solved by turning wifi off then on for the device, all is good.

Sometimes after putting my computer to sleep after waking it up the internet won’t connect with my computer

Excellent internet connection and speed, but would cut out sometimes, which made is stressful if taking an online test or quiz.

The connection would fade away sometimes and it made downloading software for class difficult. In the beginning of the year it was basically useless because of the frequency of it going out.

Wifi was very spotty at times

It worked well whenever I was in my room, but would sometimes be sketchy whenever I was somewhere else in the building [TV lounge/outside of suite on facetime]

Laptop doesn't always connect automatically like at home. Not terribly annoying because it remembers password but a little bit. it works just cuts out sometimes

Sometimes the internet doesn’t work very well even though the signal is full.

Handoff between routers was sluggish often, time to connect was slow when devices were powered on. Wired connections were satisfactory

For most of the year the Wi-Fi was very good but towards the end of the year it had been slower

Thank you for putting NCSU WiFi into Wolf Village! n/a

Connection is slow and sometimes drops out

NCSU worked well but it constantly disconnected. eduroam often stops working so I have to switch between eduroam and ncsu in order to get the internet to work

Sometimes during games there will be spikes of high latencies, which can be annoying for anything that needs constant internet access.

I my only problem is the fluctuation in the wireless signal but I can not complain more than that. It's much better compared to last year where the internet would drop out for a day or two here at wolf village.

Sometimes there are random ping spikes, but for the most part the wifi is very stable.

I had issues with connecting to certain websites and servers that did not persist after connecting to my mobile hotspot instead, including sites that wouldn't load or extremely high ping

It would often disconnect me from the internet, which prompted me to set up eduroam, which would still sometimes disconnect me.

Eduroam did not work at all. Ncsu only worked 85% of the time.

Sometimes Face Time gets disconnected... Eduroam is hard to configure, and all the websites to do so provided by ncsu is outdated

The internet occasionally cuts out completely for a couple minutes.

Slow sometimes, but generally good.

One of my Ethernet ports did not work so I only had one to get wired online access through my two consoles so I had to switch back and forth. Testing of all Ethernet wall ports would help ensure all of them are working properly.

The internet went out a few times in my dorm, but other than that it was good.

It worked great, and if one of the networks wasn't working, I could always switch to a different one.

Eduroam didn't work most of the year when using for things like chrome cast and streaming, can be laggy

Speeds and consistency are nice, but the wireless does not place nice with IoT devices (could never get a smart wall plug to connect).

My computer can never ‘find’ eduroam

90% of the time, the wifi worked great, but sometimes it would shut off on its own or not work for a few hours.

Having wireless is great, but please don't make it an obligation to use aka disconnecting the router connections in the future

Worked perfectly every SINGLE time I log onto my computer, it takes several minutes to connect to the internet bc my laptop automatically tries to connect to eduroam over and over which DOES NOT WORK for some reason, even though it worked last year. I have tried everything to fix my eduroam but it doesn't work.

Make ncsu wifi secure would often disconnect eduroam would frequently prevent me from connecting, even though I had my device registered. sometimes it doesnt connect especially in the elevators.

Whenever I'm walking somewhere or in my room trying to do work the "ncsu" wifi will stop working randomly and I'll have to use my personal.

The ethernet is a lot faster than the wifi.

Spotty at times when there would be “peak” usage. Resulting in frozen social media

Very hard to connect some devices

Sometimes the wifi cuts out but is usually fast and reliable

It is usually good and fast yet some times when I restart it will take a while

Let us use our own fucking routers!!!!!!!!!!!! My apartments internet was infinitely better than the bullshit you provide and if I add my router back you’re just going to ban its MAC address. That is completely unreasonable and y’all are morons for doing that. 90% of people who live here are engineers... we know how to set up a fucking WiFi router we don’t need your WiFi in our apartments and we didn’t ask for it.

It would be useful if the 'ncsu guest' network was more accessible inside the suite (Mackenzie Hall).

The wireless signal in the room occasionally drops to 2 or 1 bar(s), or cuts out altogether. Eduroam often disconnects around the campus and won't let me sign back in for hours

I had to sign in every single time I connected to the ethernet.

Laptop

N/A

More ethernet ports available would be helpful for my devices; NCSU network isn’t perfect at certain times of the day.

None

Sometimes I had to disconnect and reconnect to wifi repeatedly

I would often have to restart my laptop in my room because the wireless would not connect properly or would operate really really slowly.

Maybe figure out why the wifi is utter garbage most of time.

Interferes with Printer’s wireless ability

None of my devices allow me to access the ncsu or ncsu-guest login pages. I receive error which say my connection in not secure. This same issue happens when I use my laptop with the Ethernet connection. I am taken to the https://securelogin.arubanetworks.com/..... page and I must delete the https:// part of the domain in order to gain access to the login page.

It works most of the time, but occasionally it'll say "No Service" or I hear people complain that the wi-fi goes out randomly during the day.

Thank you for the set up instructions online to connect my Xbox to the WiFi. They were very simple and straightforward.

It works very well. Much better than my own house's wifi

I only reqlly uaed gueat when ncsu wireless was messing up, which wasn't common

Very fast internet speeds, very appreciated

WiFi will disconnect when going to class, Talley, etc. and will not reconnect when get back to the room.

It worked reasonably well in Wolf Ridge

At times, the connection was amazing. There was a period where ncsu WiFi didn’t work in my room for about 3 months though.

Really aggravating not being able to print wirelessly anymore from the dorm room

For some reason, eduroam will not connect or work here

The ncsu network connection is very slow in my bedroom, and the aruba box would not allow me to use my own personal router connection.

I never had any trouble with the wireless in my room. It was fast and dependable.

Never had a problem with it

Eduroam does not work well. NCSU works well.

Sometimes the internet cuts out and takes a few minutes to come back on

Oftentimes when I have guests over they cannot connect to the NCSU wireless WiFi and have to use my roommates wifif

I was unable to connect my phone and laptop to the wifi, so everytime I left my apartment or was on campus I needed to sign in. This was very inconvenient and annoying. Wireless went out often

The wifi would just cut out for random reasons so you would have to switch back and forth between the two a lot. Also it would be nice if it covered the outside areas where people hammock so that they can do homework outside.

Sometimes, the wifi would disconnect randomly and I had to sign in again

Whenever I was gone from my room for an extended period of time I would have to reset up my computer to connect to the WiFi which could be frustrating sometimes.

Kept disconnecting whilst still being “connected”

It's great, no issues what so ever!

Sometimes I have trouble connecting to the internet in my apartment. It will just cut out randomly. Also, over the summer I had difficulty making Skype Video calls from the wireless (but when I switched to the wired connection, it worked fine)

I had trouble connecting occasionally

Once in a while the internet would just go out for several minutes to a hour and none of them would work. Also later into the night the WiFi would often be slower.

It would never connect so I was unable to do work from the comfort of my room unless I used the wireless hotspot on my phone.

NCSU provided networks were fast and stable

Can be very slow at times

The wireless connection was significantly slower than the ethernet connection sometimes spotty but mostly fine

It can be extreme;y slow at times on my phone and on my laptop.

Every now and then the wifi would cut out but it always came back pretty quickly and it was overall much better than the WiFi I’ve had in previous dorms (Owen, Lee Halls)

Sometimes would be cery slow and have trouble with internet connection.

Often times it would not automatically connect me and I had to do it manually. Or it would auto connect me to ncsu-guest rather than just ncsu.

I wish that it was easier to connect an amazon fire TV stick to the wifi

I never had any problems connecting to the internet and the connection was very fast.

Always seemed to have to reconnect when I turned my computer on

There were occasional brief outages and sometimes difficulty connecting

It’s good most of the time!

It was great, but if I even touched the box on the wall, the connection would go out. This resulted in some duct tape holding the ethernet cable in place so that connection was stable

Sometimes it would go out but that was a rariety

Wireless is usually good but sometimes won't load anything such as videos or images or update things so I will just disconnect and use data instead and reconnect later. The NCSU network functioned well, although eduroam was down half the year. it would not let me connect my wire-less printer to the internet

NCSU WiFi became glitchy at some points

Overall highly satisfied, I've rarely had any issues with it!

The connection tanks when I'm in the bathroom using my phone. My room is next to the bathroom by the way. I NEED A GOOD CONNECTION TO WANK MAN.

The wireless network worked very well for my laptop, however I often had to switch to data on my phone because the internet was so slow.

The Ethernet port would not work and the OIT rep who cake talked down to me. I did not approve of that

Very rarely did this happen, but the internet speed was very low at certain times during the semester.

I have to sign into my specific certificate a lot and sometimes that window doesn't like to go down. I also could never connect on my Xbox.

In my room I always got excellent service. Lightning fast and always connected

It is almost always very fast and reliable. Every now and then I can’t connect to eduroam but the other networks still work so I am not left without internet connection.

It was shoddy at best. Even other places on campus it was the same.

Sometimes I would randomly be booted of the wifi, for no apparent reason. There was one week where I had to sign in about every hour.

The connection was always fast and consistently stable.

Eduroam should improve once new cert is fully implemented so can't complain too much. WAP's make it easy to connect to anything.

At times it's a little spotty but for the most part it works pretty well. it was a little spotty over in Greek Village

Had a few issues connecting with the Ethernet, but was able to solve them

A lot of the time the eduroam would stop working, so if that could be fixed it would be great!

Sometimes either the nsue wireless network or eduroam wireless would cut out and I would have to switch to the other one.

Occasionally randomly disconnected but when that happens its usually happening to everyone performance is horrible with all of the competing wireless networks. I much prefer hardwired through my router.

I sometimes lose connection for a second not as fast as wifi at home

Works great! So much better than at home!

Sometimes it isn't very fast to connect.

It would be nice to have more ethernet ports.

Sometimes the connectivity is not the best or it will randomly go out. Generally pretty fast and reliable

Sometime they are hard to connect or down

Ethernet on the shiny faceplate can be either super fast or fairly slow. (around 10mbps sometimes)

It's been significantly better than it was the year before.

Occasionally will refuse to sign in and connect.

Frequently slows down or cuts in and out

Great wireless connection for gaming.

Wasn't able to first access it from my room, had to go somewhere else with wifi to do so. After that, it gave me no problems.

In my room, internet was sometimes slow. In the main area of the apartment it was good

Sometimes it would go out or lag really bad, but otherwise worked fine!

Sometimes the signal was weak, or unavailable

It was a nice backup to the wall service and allowed seamless transition between devices and freedom of movement in the apartment.

Internet was very fast

Very slow at times

Wireless was solid throughout the year - the only issues were with connecting my game consoles and streaming devices. Whitelisting never seemed to work, so we had to use the ethernet connection.

None

I never had a problem with the eduroam wifi on my laptop or iPhone.

It is a very good connection.

Sometimes spotty and the afs drive connection has really been going to crap

K

A lot of it has to do with walking betweeb buildings ir the wifi says there is an authentication error

The lost of connection occurred once and I went to the It help desk and they fixed it right away

Really this was the only perk of living on campus when live on the west side of campus.

Once again, my room was fine, but study rooms were terrible

Most of the slow network connectivity occurred on mobile/wireless connections, almost never on ethernet.

It is usually quickly fixed when I restart my c Laptop or wait a couple of minutes.

I had no really awful recurring problems, just occasional lapses in internet connection. Mostly, the internet was quite reliable.

Biggest problems were connecting to the WiFi on my phone and laptop, and wifi being dropped on my phone.

Xbox console could never connect.

My connection would just randomly cut out.

For the most part ResNet was good this year. There was the concessional outage, but there was frequently minimal issues. Slightly more often was super slow connections, but that was relatively rare as well.

Problems were very rare

Often, the eduroam and ncsu did not work, while only the ncsu-guest did.

na

I had a lot of trouble staying connected on my phone. An LG G6 running standard Android OS with no network modifying apps other than CloudPath itself. I never have any trouble connecting to other networks, but my phone won't auto-connect. I have to physically go into Wi-Fi, click on Eduroam, and press connect for it to actually work. Even then it doesn't stay connected long. It'll stay connected anywhere from 30min to 2 hours.

It mostly falters when I am in between buildings

Most of my connection problems have happened at sport games or every once in a while in Talley.

I have zero consistency in when I use these devices and experience these issues, so I cannot reliably say what times I experienced issues. As far as I'm aware it was not related to any specific time frame.

Everyone in my dorm got kicked off the wifi for a few days during March and it would not connect back when we tried to log in.

I have 'registered' all of my devices through my account but I still have to go in their settings every time I open them and reconnect.

YouTube videos using my TV’s app would sometimes buffer especially when I skip through the video. Not sure if that’s connection or the TV.

My connection would only drop when the cord came unplugged from my laptop It would continually buffer on websites and the internet would disconnect, but it was only like his at night

From my bedroom (not anywhere else), my laptop can not reliably connect and stay connected to the eduroam, ncsu, or ncsu guest wireless networks and I have to use an Ethernet cable

There was no certain time it happened.

Provided router/ access point died for a few days. Never had an issue otherwise.

Don't remember what times, only happened on my phone. Occasionally, I would still be connected to the wifi but it wouldn't work. Disconnecting and reconnecting always fixed the issue.

It would mainly just be slow, maybe due to high traffic? just slow internet speeds. nothing too bad

Just the occasional drop

Eduroam occasionally stops working entirely while ncsu is slow in general

Make it easier to add devices to connect to the WiFi

N/A

A few times it was very difficult to connect to the internet, despite me restarting my devices and refreshing my wifi connection multiple times. This was not normal, though, and only happened on a couple distinct occasions.

N/A

It wasn't a constant issue, but I generally I have to reconnect the wifi once/twice a day

Sometimes (very not often), the quality of Youtube videos that I watched would suddenly drop and then it would have trouble loading but I don't know if this is due to my own computer hardware limitations (esp. when I have several programs running) or the website having trouble so, I just don't know

I was unable to load any of my content. I had to switch between the wifi and using my LTE.

I've had my connection disappear on occasion and my laptop would not reconnect with the network until I put the laptop in sleep mode and woke it up again (which is a problem with my computer, not the network). Additionally, sometimes, the connection would drop if I were playing Smash Bros.

Sometimes my phone or computer simply won't be able to connect to the internet. The internet option either doesn't show up, or my device won't have internet access.

Occasional buffering and low video quality. Most frequent complaint was dropped FaceTime calls.

Sometimes my devices are slower than usual but this does not hinder my activity no

Every once in a while during what I imagine are the peak demand hours for internet, the connection slows and sometimes cuts off completely. Rather often during this time the internet will not work in the hallways of Innovation Hall.

None at this time.

Would get random ping spikes while playing games in the afternoon.

My phone would lose the connection to the ncsu network and I would have to restart it for it to connect again. I don't think it gas anything to do with the campus network.

This was fixed easily by disconnecting and reconnecting. N/A

One issue I was disappointed by--though I don't know that there's anything State can necessarily do about this--is that I couldn't connect my Google Home Mini to the ncsu wi-fi network. Since it requires a log-in, Google does not yet support such a network.

Ethernet would randomly cut out for a second or two but would reconnect after. The damage was already done though.

Issues are assumed to be due to network strain. my device ( phone) often loses connection to the wifi. I have to turn Wi-Fi off and back on again to reconnect about once a day

N/A

FaceTime calls were frequently very choppy. random

N/A

I’ve only had the connection drop maybe twice, but in those situations it was always a time period where most students would probably be using the internet as well. only towards the end of the year

Occasionally the WiFi would be very slow. Especially on my iPhone. I experienced slower speeds on my phone at least once a day but never for my laptop

FaceTime isn’t the best. Certain areas lose connection and the server times out

So slow sometimes during evening. I assumed my room and living room are far away from the internet service area.

It is not terribly common, but it’ll be slow speeds for pages loading or videos playing, and the occasional disconnect out of nowhere

Fountain Dining hall always had bad connection.

Very rarely the internet goes down or lags but it's almost always parts of large outages and system problems

Not that this is important, but the only thing I believe the ncsu network blocks is the Anti-cheat system called PunkBuster(pnkbstr Service) for the Battlefield3 and Battlefield4 games.

Experienced packet loss when playing video games. Ping spiked at times, overall pretty reliable. There was one week when nothing was playable bc ping was so high, but that was fixed.

After software updates on Windows 10, their was a rare issue that would prevent the computer from connecting to the access point.

With FaceTiming friends from my laptop it will often freeze the frame or distort what they are saying even though we both have a good connection- its happened with different friends on different campuses so I have come to the conclusion that it must be my issue here at State that's causing problems. The other issue I came across was mypack will sometimes spit you back to a calcentrics blue page and ask you to log in but it won't accept the ncsu log in and you have to keep trying to get mypack to come up until it does. really at the beginning of the year it seemed that the internet was slow at times but I havent had any troubles in a long time.

It literally happened one time, not sure when though but overall this internet is super good.

It just seems to slow down at those points

Running VPN over Ethernet or eduroam, I sometimes lose access to the Internet. Turning off the VPN fixes the problem.

I am not sure of the times specifically. "poor connection" currently ruined facetime

Just while outside but still on campus the internet doesn't connect as well like at Tucker beach or fountain dining hall

It would just disconnect sometimes and I would have to manually reconnect it.

Not really sure when the internet problems usually occur, just that they occur.

I feel like the connection has more to do with my computer than the internet.

Connections would generally be reestablished within a few minutes, if not seconds, on devices (exempting a linux machine, which would often have to be reconnected manually)

Internet connection is really poor in the hallways and sometimes even the lobbies of wolf ridge buildings. Calls are constantly dropping and the internet won't load.

A few times I got disconnected to Eduroam and then I couldn't get a connection back until the next day.

I said video calls, but really I mean voice calls

I find my devices will suddenly disconnect from either eduroam or ncsu and I will have to switch to the other one to resume work.

N/A

One of my devices, a Chrome Book, would not connect to the internet at all.

Internet never dropped for more than 10 minutes

N/a

My SmartTV was not able to use video streaming (Netflix) because the internet speed was not fast enough.

I noticed no readily apparent patterns in the dropped connections. It did not occur often enough to become a significant hindrance to my schoolwork.

There was just a couple of times when the Wi-Fi in Lee seemed to be down. It was usually back up within an hour.

I’m not sure what time of day the problems occur

Only happened about once a month. nah

Some videos tend to buffer if running at 60fps and 1080p.

It has gotten real bad since a couple days before the last day of classes.

Sometimes my devices would drop the connection. Also my devices would would always drop connection when walking around campus.

It often happens when more students are online in the dorms or on campus. When most people are asleep it is fine.

Sometimes disconnects for short amounts of time, but is overwhelmingly better than last year.

These issues didn't occur in my dorm, but they did occur in in the Army ROTC Cadet Lounge. We had frequent internet connection issues when trying to use Xbox live on our Xbox 360. We were never able to play online multiplayer games due to this issue.

I can’t remember specific times but I feel like it’s slow when a lot of people are on the system (like during finals, signing up for housing, and enrollment time) The most notable issue is inability to play online games (video games) with my console. Otherwise, the internet usually works with temporary hiccups at the times of day listed above.

I occasionally have bad or slow connection while in my room. It is not very often but it does occur.

There would be times when I would be playing a game that my connection would be slow, it would disconnect me from a group game.

Ocassionally i seem to disconnect from the internet, but never any serious issues.

Internet connection would fail and certifications were required or would consider everything insecure. Had to get IT help several times

Just a matter of slow connection speed, or trouble connecting to the wifi once every few weeks. Usually just affects my handheld devices so it does not interfere with my schoolwork.

My phone constantly suffers from slow downs when on State WiFi and the only way to fix it is to disconnect and reconnect.

Connection would only drop over wifi, ethernet never had any issues.

N/A

The phones won’t stay connected

Sometimes ncsu network would stop working so I would have to manually switch to edu roam

Any problems I experienced could usually be fixed with a quick reboot of my laptop or turning my wifi off and back on again. They lasted for very short periods of time, as well. Nothing too bad or too inconvenient at all!

Connections walking on campus were very poor, such as walking from Bagwell to Talley or other buildings on campus.

Sometimes I just have to disconnect from the wifi, then reconnect. It doesnt necessarily drop out but something happens.

It will say I'm connected on my phone and computer, but my apps and browser won't work, saying I don't have access to wifi

Occasionally the signal for eduroam will just be gone, not low. Also, some evenings when I use my smart tv (amazon firestick) to access hulu the signal will just drop off.

The internet would drop out and sign me out saying there was an issue. Then it would take a ridiculous amount of time for me to sign back in.

Probably just traffic upticks during those times.

It only happens on my phone, it is still connected to network but there is no internet until I toggle the wifi off and on.

Overall, connection was good. It would sometimes just go out for an entire day or for a while.

Two times this year my computer was unable to connect to the wifi on campus. This issue lasted for about a day and while the issue was resolved. I don't know what the problems was

WiFi occasionally drops for a few seconds. Rare issue.

I don't know what times it occurred, it was just at random times every couple hours.

N/a

I'm picking never cause I'm never using it that late.

The eduroam said that there was no internet connection so I always has to turn the wifi off and on on my laptop or switch networks

It has only been very minor slow speeds or lag that I have incountered. It's not unbearable by any means. N/A n/a

There were 2 times in the year when the internet went out for an extended period. facetime just wouldn’t connect to the internet or it would lose connection mid call

Sometimes, the wireless will lose internet connectivity for a few seconds, just long enough to interrupt gaming/video streaming.

There were infrequent drops in connection at the begininning of the school year, (August-October)

My iPhone doesn't connect to NCSU automatically, I have to select it in my setting all the time, even though I have added my iPhone to my nomad devices. However, when I go back to my dorm, it connects automatically to my private router (Apple Airport Extreme Base Station Router). every SINGLE time I log onto my computer, it takes several minutes to connect to the internet bc my laptop automatically tries to connect to eduroam over and over which DOES NOT WORK for some reason, even though it worked last year. I have tried everything to fix my eduroam but it doesn't work.

More security please!!!

N/A

Sometimes it would just say that internet was not available, but switching to the other network(eduroam or ncsu)usually solved problem.

It’s just random it doesn’t have any noticeable pattern to when it drops out

Whenever I would FaceTime someone my call connection would drop to the lowest quality immediately, and then soon after I would lose the video feed altogether. But this only happened in my dorm room.

I have to sign in every single time even though my devices were already registered.

Slow to connect and will lose connection in some areas

Sometimes internet would drop in and out periodically and I would have to turn off my wifi and reconnect again.

Sometimes the connection will cut out or severely lag when I am working and I have to disconnect and reconnect or restart my device all together to get the connection working again

Printer Wireless connection doesn’t work

The connection would be fine then lag for a bit like it was being reset then continue being fine. This mostly occured over the WiFi on my Xbox

Very good connection most of the time. Only a handful of instances where it wasn’t great.

The Aruba box did not work with my router/modem. It's the same router/modem I used in my room last year in Wolf Village in another building with a non- aruba box. It worked back then and allowed for me to have my own personal wireless connection in my room, but I was not able to do that this year with the aruba box.

The Wifi will just randomly drop from my phone at times and I am unable to reconnect

Why do I have to renew my eduroam certificate every couple of hours?

Skype calls kept dropping this summer. I had to use a wired connection.

When downloading games through wifi, it was slower and took way too long but connecting through LAN was significantly faster

I did not have consistent problems with the internet. Only a few times I would have complete internet loss on my computer for 10-15 minutes; however, I did not have any significant problems with the internet connection. Whenever it cut out it usually came back when I tried troubleshooting on my laptop

Disconnects everytime I turn off computer. Often takes a while to reconnect. Dropped calls every now and then.

Would randomly lose acces, not for long periods of time though

Overall satisfied

It was more physical connection issues rather than network dropping out

Both my phone, my roommate's phone, and his laptop - but not my laptop - got dropped from the wifi and wired network, rebooted everything, checked his network switch for his laptop, it eventually resolved itself but was really weird.

N/A

The only issue I have is that when I walk from building to building, I sometimes lose my connection, which can be annoying if I was sending a text or trying to receive a text or email

May have lost connection due to power glitch around 2 am

As I said before, very rarely did it happen, but the internet slowed down significantly 2-3 times this semester during the evening/night hours. I just assumed the traffic was too much, but it didn't slow down to such an extent that it was impossible to use. All I had to do was to reduce the resolution, so no harm done!

These problems were very infrequent and did not cause a major inconvenience.

My computer is nearly always connected to resnet and runs perfectly. My phone is also connected for the most part and runs pretty well except during FaceTime it gets poor connection every now and then.

It's great overall, but every now and then there are lags at "busy" times of day. It only happened a handful of times and I fixed it by getting off ResNet and back on, so it's not a major issue

The internet would just randomly drop off or I'd get better connection in one part of my room as opposed to the other part of my room so I'd have to adjust to the signal.

I probably only experienced the delays with Facetime in the evenings because that's the only time I use Facetime.

Rocket league has terrible ping sometimes and when someone disconnects from a game I get enormous server lag

I think just boost capability at times of high use, like when people do their homework

I would like to add that the main problem I had was that the eduroam kept expiring or timing out

I have all of my devices set up to automatically connect to the ncsu wifi. Sometimes my devices such as my laptop or cell phone would disconnect from the Wi-Fi and not be able to reconnrct because the Wi-Fi was off or disconnected.

The connection was great most of the time except the few times it dropped or was very slow.

Occasionally will get kicked off of eduroam and will have to re-register to connect again.

Skype Calls go in and out, frequently disconnect. Netflix tends to buffer mid-program about once per watching session

Busy hours sometimes heavily impact internet connection

It was only ever a slight disconnect, but it was enough for software such as Ubisoft's platform to disconnect me from a match in an online game

Would disconnect frequently when walking between classes n/a

I don't know that exists

We're not as good as other sources online

I couldn't find them.

I was doing well in class based on in-class lectures alone

I attended all classes and didn't need to watch the recordings

I attended all the lectures for that class

Only had to watch if we missed class, and I didn't miss the class.

I did not need it, I was in class

I got the information I needed by attending class.

No reason

I went to all the classes so I didn't need to make anything up I went to class and didn't need to rewatch the lectures I attended.

I didn't need them

I didn't need the extra help.

We had in-class lectures

I was doing well enough in the class that I didn’t need to

Just did not go about it, I was fine.

I couldn't figure out how to access them.

Did not have the need

Q85 - Do you have any comments about recording classroom content?

Do you have any comments about recording classroom content?

n/a

It is often cumbersome/inconvenient to watch and understand.

Very insightful

Taking courses where the class is mostly online is not worth taking when the course itself is difficult

I wish all classes did it. It was super helpful in my engineering analysis class, and I wish more professors did it.

In some classes, there was recording occurring. However, I was unable to access them.

It is an incredibly useful resource. I love being able to go over material I didn't quite get at my own pace.

no

Quality of recording was pretty good.

I feel that most of the professors I've had that utilized online lectures, and had several semesters or experience with it had great content and teaching methods. I typically prefer an in person lecture though.

N/A

no

It would be useful for classes that were missed where a discussion occurs that is on an exam.

The frame rate on the camera that captures the professors writing is very laggy and low. The one on the camera pointing down from the projector camera or whatever you call it. Say if they are writing on paper and what to show it to the class.

Very helpful. My professor sucked this semester and it saved me in calc.

No

I wish that more teachers provided in-class lecture outside of class to use

N/A

It is extremely helpful.

Needs better audio. Several videos had horrible background noise, varying sound volumes, unclear voice from microphone clarity, etc.

None

Nope

no

I LOVE it. EVERY CLASS should do this! It is SO HELPFUL! Sadly the only one class session I missed didn't record lectures. Nope.

If a class session(s) is recorded, ensure students are aware.

No

No

More classes should do it

I took a crop science class online so there were online lectures. It would be nice for all online lectures to have a script or subtitles for accessibility's sake.

All classes should be recorded so students with chronic illnesses can easily catch up if they miss class.

The recordings were useful.

N/A

Keyboard shortcuts for the video are not straightforward

No, I have never taken a class where recording was involved

No

N/A

It worked good.

Very useful for when I cannot attend a session

I think it is very valuable material, I did not have classes where I could view the lectures but I did have one class where she would record just the sound of her voice which we could listen to again but did not have the ability to see what she was writing on the board or which slide she was lecturing on. I liked being able to go back and relisten to topics I stuggled with

No.

Shouldn’t have been necessary if professor didn’t take a trip

One of my classes had the lectures recorded but students were unable to access them. I would've used the recordings to go back over the lectures if they had been available.

Works fine, sometimes the actual format of the website can get a bit messed up when watching. Like it will freeze or lag. flipped classes have their benefits. I felt like i was successful in them no

Do it all the time

It was ok, not amazing. It wasn’t on the technology side but the teacher.

Nope, its generally really useful to use.

It is an extremely helpful feature. I think more professors should use it.

I think all classrooms should have recordings available. It would be a lot less stressful for students who miss classes for extenuating circumstances. I think it would be helpful for larger classes where students might not get questions answered. I know I've wanted to go back and watch a lecture because I didn't quite understand a concept, but couldn't because it wasn't recorded. The mic quality can be improved but it gets the job done

It can be very useful for review or catching up

Useful, should be kept, should always be implemented

N/A good

I wish more classes had that option

I believe that it would be useful if every class is recorded so that we can return to a lecture if we missed it. Also to encourage attendance, only people who attend will have access to the recordings.

N/A

No some time is very useful as an international student to stop and digest the information that is provided by the professor

Sometimes the site would just not work at all. Some media playback errors that would persist in all browsers

No

Nope.

Easy to do on free time, but troublesome because you can't ask clarifying questions.

No

If we are enrolled in a class, but not an online section, I wasn't able to access the classroom content even though it was offered as an additional resource.

I would very much like to have access to these recordings for my classes.

No ml

It is nice having the option to be able to watch a recorded lecture. On one of the snow days my professor recorded a lecture from her home for us to watch, which was pretty cool

It was fine

Mediasite often crashed and made it difficult to watch lectures when I needed to.

3 of my 4 professors this semester used screencasts to record their lectures. I found it very useful for all classes, but only one professor knew how to fully take advantage of the system. I think this summer there should be an information session about the technology so professors that are interested can appeal to both live and online audiences and troubleshoot problems with screencast if its not working. The latter has caused a considerable amount of lecture delays over my 4 years here.

I think it is a very helpful tool

This is my favorite feature available on moodle.

Useful when busy.

No. No

I really appreciate the closed captions, but not having continuous video for the powerpoint/smartboard makes things harder to follow.

I believe recorded classroom content can be extremely useful for students that are struggling in a course or for courses that do not require attendance.

MAE 201 is a very inefficient flipped classroom setup, where we waste an entire 75 minutes in class solving 2-3 problems and doing 2-hours of note- taking on our own per chapter.

Good

Love having it available!

It’s very helpful. Keep it up

I find it generally not useful

The audio and the video do not match up sometimes and it is hard to concentrate on what the teacher is saying when you cannot see what they are writing as well.

That would be nice but I've never been lucky enough to have a professor that provides recordings regularly more classes should have it

No

It was fine

It would help

No

I think more on-campus professors should have recordings of their classroom content to support the students and help them with their learning when they are confused.

N/A

No

No; the website used to present them show no issues. The biggest issue I have seen is that professors are not well-acquainted with the process, which causes much lower quality recordings than if they were familiar with it.

With the in-class side of those classes it was annoying to have to wait for the device to decide that it was time for class to start because sometimes it would glitch and our professor would have to wait for it none

It's awesome! Incredibly helpful when you have professors who talk fast or have sloppy handwriting.

No

Its great help

No

Whenever I try to seek backwards in a video, the video feed freezes but the sound keeps playing.

Helpful. Wish mine offered it this semester.

All classes should provide recorded sessions.

It's good for catching up and reviewing material, but it almost negates having a live lecture at all

No

Useful

Wish it was a more common feature in courses

N/a

I wish my classes had them khg

They are very useful for review for tests or class review.

All of the recorded content was very clear, both audio and image quality.

Very helpful when studying for a difficult exam.

I think all classes should record their lectures.

I like that in most classrooms you cannot record content.

Wish the recording was closer to the screen/front of class room as it was hard to read some of what the professor had on the board

Microphone volume was too low, and presentation materials often were not well shown.

N/A

Please introduce it into as many classrooms as possible!

N/A

Needs to be more widely publicized. It is a good thing to have, if I ever needed it.

There are a lot of students who find this helpful, and a lot of professors who have students watch pre-recorded lectures before class.

More classes should do it.

It is a very useful tool when it comes to reviewing for upcoming exams.

Having recorded lectures is worth at least half a letter grade.

No

No

It was horrible, Teacher used the videos as an excuse not to teach it is extremely helpful for when a class is missed due to weather and studying for exams

I wish I could take every single course online. Being able to pause, go back, speed up, slow down, etc is super valuable.

I didn’t like it

No

I would like it if more of my professors recorded at least audio of their lectures.

No

The video player is janky

If I had missed a day in that class, I certainly would have used it.

None. nope

That'd be great, but professors don't usually want to do it

No

No

Sometimes lost voice.

None to speak of

Useful tool for professors and students. I like it a lot, but i wish that the powerpoint slides were connected to the audio so that we know where they are in the powerpoint during the audio recording

Sometimes the mic would not pick up on the prof's voice and sometimes the recording would stop during class

It is very helpful when professors offer it.

Camera tracking is a little off.

It's great

It is very helpful to go back and study and look over old material

Please make this a thing for all classes! n/a

I love the recordings

What I had was very good.

It convenient, allowing the user to take their time reviewing the course material.

No

Just let the class know beforehand

Recording classroom content is very useful but it seems to be somewhat unpopular.

I watched content from previous classes but nothing from the last few years

I would appreciate recorded lectures

It could be helpful

I really appreciated being able to review for quizzes/tests with online recordings. I found them very useful many times.

The recordings worked very well.

I did not watch them for my classes

Usually there wasn't any way to save/download the videos

Audio goes in and out at times.

There should be a way to download the presentation/slides

Editing out spaces where students are asked to confer in groups etc would make watching recordings faster and easier

Not applicable no

N/A

In-class lectures are 10000000000000 times better

I absolutely love having it as a resource but it would be a lot better/more accessible if it were possible to get closed captioning for it. This was a spectacular tool that helped me immensely.

Professors should be told to make them as brief as possible and more students would watch them. Some talk so slowly and kill a lot of time with too many tangents. i wish more teachers did it

No

Nope, don't use it all that much sometimes audio is quiet, makes hearing difficult. would be great if it had subtitles or a transcript.

Instructors should be encouraged to post their lectures online so that we can have more review material available to us.

I had online classes.

Get better mics as audio is really bad

I think it would be a great idea to add. For people with excused absences, this would be very helpful.

None of my teachers did that.

I really enjoyed have classroom content available online. Hybrid classes are amazing in that they let me work at my own pace and review material that is available to me 24/7.

ST-311 content needs an update. Some of the built-in quizzes don't work and sometimes the speaker gets cut off.

It would be helpful to have a transcript that goes along with the video

N/A

Nope!

No

I am taking a flipped style course so all my class material came from the videos.

N/a

The video names made it hard to find the day I was looking for

Make sure the professor knows where to place their mic if recording. The first five video lectures I listened to had a lot of feedback.

N/A

It's a bit of a mixed blessing. It definitely enabled me to skip my 8:30 class a few times, which is not good.

No

Recording system is up to date and fine none

Has worked well everytime I needed to use it.

The recording classroom for my classes were not needed because I attended class to get the lecture instead of watching it online. didn’t know it was a thing

It can be useful but often the quality is so poor it makes it hard see or hear the video.

Nope.

It can be difficult to sort trough the lectures and know which one you left off on

By far the best functionality is the ability to speed up playback without distorting audio too much.

I think it would have helped for my statics class, because the teacher never posts notes, so having something to review would be good. no

Often times instructors aren't aware how well or how poorly their mic is picking up sound.

N/A

Some teachers do not offer effective videos so they should have more resources available to help them help students

I wish it was required for all classes. I can't help when I get sick, so I shouldn't be unable to view that lecture and learn that material the same way as other students.

Great improvement in video quality over 2017 Spring.

I didn’t know they were a thing

Bring it to more classrooms! Especially non-technical classes too.

I took a flipped class for organic chemistry with online lectures.

Should be done more often

Just to clarify I mostly used it because for one of my classes the lectures were online and we were required to watch them

I'm not sure if this is or is not available, but having subscript/captions would be helpful.

Very helpful for students, would advise people to use it more.

It is very useful. It really helped me understand and get caught up.

All classes should offer a recorded or online videos in some way.

The for these recordings offers little flexibility in resizing and arranging the windows of the videos, which is a bit annoying when trying to watch the instructor and the slides at the same time. Closed captioning would also be helpful.

Get a new service beyond engineering online. Whoever runs that has service issues during the week, which harms the usability of the service.

Recordings for MA 121 were very old, out of date

It seems useful for reference and for online students.

Its great

Nope

More classes should do it. I’ve found issues with the noise recording where it will come in and out and I will not be able to hear momentarily.

N/A n/a

I wish more classes had them available that way it would be easier to re-watch sections that I had trouble understanding

I wish more professors would do this. I believe it increased my grades for the classes that the professors did it in.

My math class was a hybrid class, so I was expected to watch the lectures online. n/a

They should do it more in big lecture classes not very helpful

No

No

No I think it’s helpful

The system recorded a frame about every two seconds from the projector. It was awkward

N/A

I enjoy watching recorded classroom content because I can go at my own pace and even pause or speed up the video. I have rarely had issues with buffering or not being able to watch the video

THE AUDIO QUALITY OF E115 VIDEOS NEED TO GET GOOD BECAUSE SOME OF IT ISN'T AT ALL. THE VIDEO QUALITY IS CRAP AND THATS ALL WE GET BECAUSE ITS AN ONLINE CLASS.

I think it should be offered for all classes. It would help me when reviewing information for an exam or going back to check my class notes, etc.

Was there such a thing? If there was, please let us know beforehand next time so that we can use this resource.

It would help if they were easier to access.

I wish all large classes were recorded.

It is very useful for more difficult, lecture style classes that are very information heavy.

I think it's a great feature to have, but it doesn't work well for every class. Some more technical classes just don't work as well over the Internet compared to in person.

N/A

Great tool! I was able to go over every lecture in class before the final

Better audio quality in nelson 3400, the audio peaks and distorts like crazy, also higher resolution if possible (1080p would be grand)

My course material was all in videos, while the classroom section was all material review.

I wish more teachers would do that. We don't always skip because we don't want to go. Life goes on outside the classroom and it would be nice to know what has happened. I like the fact that there are CC. It allows me to really understand what the professor is saying. audio is sometimes flaky; everything else is fine

The software my professor used was very nice, Playposit, I just wish the lectures could stay on it and not have to be deleted due to storage.

Audio is usually too low

N/A

Occasionally software will disconnect and shut down during live class, promoting professor to go and restart it from where she left off.

Very useful to have

This should be most definitely used for various courses

N/A

Record every single lecture and post them online, it can only help the students

E102 videos

I like having them as a resource if I need to review, and in the past I have used the recordings as a study aid/review, but I have not had the need to use them for review this semester.

It was very useful during the snow days as it allowed my calculus class to stay caught up with the schedule

Video set up seems a bit out dated

Typically very good quality, both audio and video

No

No, not at all

I find it very useful

Are there any changes you would make to how clickers are used at NC State?

I havent used them in over a year.

just make it consistent on what system professors use, otherwise they're ok

I enjoyed clickers very much.

no

Nope

allow more time to answer

Not really. I think it is fine based on what I used last year.

They seem useless and expensive

I would let students, especially students that have never used these technologies before or are new incoming students, know well in advance that they may have to use these polling tools and give them some sort of opportunity to get familiar with them. Or, give the teachers some sort of class that familiarizes them with the software so they can better explain it to their classes.

I did not use any of them.

Tophat is better than clickers

no

More often

No

Tophat was frustrating and I would often lose internet in Bosnian and lose points.

There has to be a way to collect student responses that doesn't require buying a clicker. Forgetting clicker but still being counted absent is pretty aggravating. Maybe there is a free software to be used on a phone.

Make clickers free

Have the professors give a bit more time to answer questions.

No more physical clickers that I need to shell out money for. They are useless pieces of plastic outside of maybe 3 classes in your whole academic career

Uh yeah let's make the clickers cost less on provide them free of charge if we're going to require them. I ended up using the clicker 3 times a week just to press one answer for attendance and never pick it up again.

N/A

have an app or something rather than a manual clicker and have it be free Yeah - make a polling system you can access without cost. It seems like an arbitrary cost to purchase polling systems such as turning point/top hat when there are so many free alternatives.

Yes, multiple times My clicker malfunctioned and I got questions wrong/my answer didn't go through. A couple times my clicker said the channel was down or asked me if I would like to switch channels WHILE I was trying to answer a question during a quiz and it caused me to lose points. The clicker also cinsistently took a long time to confirm the recording of my answer, to the point where I also lost a couple points. Fixing these problems would be great.

I would prefer not to have classes require these because it’s like having to pay a hidden fee.

No.

Do not use them. As a financially insecure student I was lucky to be able to meet the requirements.

No

Don't use TopHat anymore because the application never worked and always marked me absent even if I was in class and it said that I didn't submit my work even though I did.

Prefer to do it through phone apps.

Tuition for classes seems like it's high enough for clickers or the software to be provided for students

While I appreciated Top Hat, requiring students to use a laptop or phone made it extremely easy for students to become distracted and I often found myself surrounded by individuals who were scrolling through facebook or online shopping in the middle of class which not only hindered their own ability to learn, but also everyone around them.

Students with learning disabilities feel pressured when they can't answer as fast as others and get docked points.

I cannot think of any polling changes.

None.

No

I don't like paying for TopHat every semester I have to use it. It is a load of bologna.

I like tophat, and hate clickers.

No, they work great no

Top Hat is annoying. Takes up battery life on my phone and glitches frequently. I prefer using a clicker much more.

Turning point clickers are expensive for how little we use them. Top hat and other resources are free for students and everyone has something electronics they can do it on

N/A make them all tophat

Make the system better because it would sometimes crash in the middle of a class or during a quiz.

I really liked top hat and the clickers! I liked the use of top hat for polling and attendance better though because I didn’t have to pay for it and I used it more than I ended up using my clicker

No Sometimes the timer would glitch and close the poll before we could answer. For example, it would say 30 seconds left then close the poll before completing the time. This would cause me to lose points

No.

No

Stop using them.

TopHat was not very effective and often glitched, especially when taking attendance. It often would show an "attendance verified" screen and green checkmark to the student after a long wait period but not log in this information to the teacher.

Nope

I'm not really sure how the app works. I own a clicker and might want to use the app if I forget it. I wouldn't want to pay for it again though.

TopHat is not reliable yet many teachers made it necessary for attendance

I would have professors connect to the same system so you wouldn’t have to buy multiple softwares for different classes

We used Kahoot, and in both the classes where it was used, it was incredibly difficult to connect with the system because of Wifi issues

No

Use a free service nah no

Stop the clickers

I wish for the classes they were extra credit, because you are supposed to learn the material, not be quizzed on stuff you will be learning later in the class. The quizzes that are on things that we had previously learned in a previous class are totally fine and should be part of the grade of the class.

I have not had any experience with them.

Use cheaper ones

Nope

Stick to one no

Make sure the classroom has good WiFi before enforcing TopHat. I spent so much of my own data plan why class just tying to connect.

Somehow give them more focus/professionality so that students take them seriously.

Use Tophat more than clickers, because then students can save money

I think the teacher was unsure how to set the clicker up through moodle because he constantly had to manually account for clickers not registered to a name every time he did a clicker quiz

Less dependent on phones.

If forgotten, physical attendance should be a second option. I AM sure which system it was :P It was Kahoot.

No, i have used tophat before and it works fine

I hear clickers are ineffective. TopHat was actually pretty nice.

No, although buying a clicker is annoying.

No

I prefer free no

No

I had two classes that used Top Hat and Plicker cards respectively. I prefer these types of software because they are free for students for use.

No

No

No, but I really like TopHat

When I was in larger lectures, some students would bring in other students' clickers, so it kind of defeated the purpose. A better system would be a smartphone app because students are way less likely to give those to their friend, so it would cut down on the amount of students forging their attendance grades. If some students do not have a smartphone, they can hand write their responses (I don't imagine too many people live without smartphones, so it shouldn't be a huge deal if a few students in a 100+ class do this).

I do not use polling systems as a student at NC State!

TopHat and other smartphone based systems are easier to get and use. They don't cost 35 dollars at the bookstore. They are also less prone to breaking. My TurningPoint clicker broke twice.

Don’t use clickers

Convert everything to top hat. It is free and works on phone or tablet, clicker not required

No.

Get rid of them.

No the clickers are expensive

Use only TopHat since it is free. It gives you the same abilities that clickers have, but you do not have to go out and spend money on a clicker.

No. Personally, I like clicker questions and how they are used at NC State.

No

Wish they were free

No

I don’t know them N/A

N/A

Better connection

None dont like for attendance purposes

Clickers are unreliable and way over priced so I think we should stop using them. TopHat is much better and free

Top Hat is not reliable. At times, my answer would not go through and I would get that question wrong, even though I did choose the right answer. And that hurt my grade at the end.

Use Tophat over clickers more! Tophat is fun

Have lost connection while trying to input answers in Bostian Hall n/a

N/A no

No

Yes, I was told by mypack that I needed a clicker for one of my classes, and we ended up not using them, so I’m out $30 for no reason. As if this place doesn’t make enough money off me already someone couldn’t be bothered to go in and make sure that was right.

No

Top Hat was nice to use because it was free, but sometimes it made it harder to focus in class because it promotes the use of an electronic device.

No

Make sure they don't cost money. Having students buy clickers just for a college class is asinine.

Not well enough informed to provide suggestions. none that I can think of

I didn't know such a thing existed.

No

I really like these systems. However, for top hat many of the students were sent the code for attendance and left after checking in. I think top hat should have monitored location of the student to ensure they stayed at class the whole time. I liked the clickers.

I prefer tophat over clickers

Make them free to students

No

I like tophat better it's free for students here. Plus tophat shows you past asnswers and records.

Stop the use of clickers; they are an unnecessary buy compared to the rise of digital systems like RedHat. I would move away from clickers since there are more user-friendly options available that do not require the purchase of an additional device.

I would like to see TopHat used as a free, cohesive alternative to clickers. Everyone I know that has used clickers has lamented their use.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of clickers and having to go out and buy one, but they fulfill some functions which may not be possible otherwise. The physical clicker is also a lot better than the phone app.

No, they are useful and easy to use for students and teachers

I wish that the clickers could give you your grade back or show some sort of sign that yes, you submitted your question and got it right/wrong because as someone with anxiety I don't enjoy just turning an immediate answer in and not getting and immediate answer back, that seems kind of pointless.

Much prefer tophat over clickers. no

No no

Nope

No no

Not at this time.

Not using Clickers/TurningPoint. I see no use for it, and it costs students additional money.

Only tophat use

Not used one so no

Tophat is glitchy

KAHOOT IS NOT A REAL POLLING SYSTEM uosdfhg

While clickers are cool, initially I had trouble believing that my responses were actually being recorded. In fact, I went to my professor after class at the beginning of the semester just to ensure that my answers were going through. Of course, the clicker displays a check mark but I was worried nonetheless.

They very from class to class and they were useful in the classes I have used them in.

I enjoyed top happy but sometimes there would be problems because the internet can be spotty in classrooms. I might miss a graded question because of this.

I would like for the clicker to display what was submitted, because I have accidentally hit the wrong button/number but did not know. Also, it would be nice if the correct answer was displayed on the clicker.

Better connection, tophat would often crash when trying to answer questions and mess up on attendance.

Not sure is this is necessarily a change, but I had a lot of issues connecting to the ncsu wifi in my bio lecture. We used TopHat daily and nearly everyday I did not receive credit for at least one question due to poor internet connection/speeds. I recognize that since there were 250+ people using the wifi in Bostian Hall that it would make sense the wifi was slowed down, but it would be great for future classes if there was anyway the connection could be improved. no

N/A

Don't require students to buy clickers

N/A

Never force us to buy a subscription.

N/A

For it to be displayed on your clicker whether or not you got the answer correct or incorrect when the poll closes.

Get rid of clickers. There are many apps that do the same thing. Also, make it clear that TopHat has been purchased for students before classes start. I had to request a refund from TopHat because I purchased my class license before classes started.

I would heavily encourage the use of tophat, which prevents students from having to buy the clicker or a subscription.

N/a

No

As of right now, no.

Eliminate it or provide the clickers for the students. Only a handful of classes use the clickers so students effectively throw $50 away. If clickers are provided for students, they can be assigned at the beginning of the class and only if a student does not return the clicker will a student have to foot the bill for it.

Make them not for a grade

Nope i wish any classes that use it would say so somewhere online. meaning, when i was purchasing top hat, i had the option of doing a long term membership or 1 semester long. if i had a class that used top hat 2 semesters in a row, it wouldve been cheaper to buy the longer membership. dumb

No

No not mandatory to buy

I don't like them and don't find them useful at all. They just get in the way and clutter up the class.

Yes. The cost of a clicker is considerably inflated and most freshman buy them new for their ridiculous prices. Please switch over to using tophat as students don't need to buy something.

Live tracking of content understanding.

More people should use it

Use Kahoot more often.

Clickers are outdated, and should be replaced with online software like Kahoot

None

Nope n/a n/a

--

Make it easier for professors to use. There would be ties when professors could get it to connect for what ever reason.

Free programs like Kahoot should be used more frequently instead. I have only used my clicker for one class in my four semesters at this institution, but they are expensive and I am not sure if I can sell it or not because another class down the line may have to use it.

No

I thoroughly enjoyed tophat, especially because it is free. Not make us have to buy the tools for polling

N/A

Don’t make me buy the clickers

Not particularly

Email you your responses at the end of class make it free

Tophat crashes often and has some bugs that need to be resolved

Don’t use Clickers. I found them to be a waste of $20 and much preferred the free service of TopHat

Clickers are often a hassle using in class, and they should have limited use in future classes.

No I like using them!

I would like to stop using clickers. Top Hat is free and often more convenient to use.

No.

No

Using free tools more often in classes (top hat)

Don't use them, they are cumbersome and promote anxiety. It often feels like norther the instructors nor the students understand how to use it well. It also adds yet another extra system for students to have to try and keep up with, despite most students having 3 or 4 already.

No

No no

N/A

Never use them for quizzes or graded tests

Nope

If the instructor is going to use them, go full force with them. Not just halfway.

Nope.

No no

No

No it seems pretty efficient to me

I did not use clickers or any of the electronic polling systems in my classes

Kahoot is easier and more affordable. The clickers were a waste of money and weren’t useful. I would recommend not buying

Yes make all classrooms get on board and use one software to save money and not go out and buy 50 dollars for each class.

Not use clickers

None

I understand they're for attendance but $50 for a clicker I'll never use again is a bit ridiculous no, it was very easy to use in class.

Stop the location based checks, they mess me up a lot because my phone refuses to connect to tophat and the wifi properly sometimes and tophat always says i have "connectivity errors"

Get rid of it

I never knew or used them.

Don’t use them because I had perfect attendence and I got an 80% because of clickers despite mine apparently working. Who knows what I missed on quizzes from it.

No

You can use TopHat anywhere, so there’s a way around attendance

I found TopHat difficult to use and prefer using clickers to this system

Unify with one application

No

I wouldn't make any changes as of right now!

More TopHat use, it is a very easy and useful software

Don't let my physics teacher have this please

They should unify the polling system so that students can save costs.

(We used Kahoot)

N/A

N/a

They didn't know how to use the program so it was only to get attendance

N/A

None, polling systems are fine

Free systems are the best. none

I prefer clickers. No

Nope. don't use tophat because I had to pay for that last year and used it only once and I already had bought a clicker which is more commonly used and you pay once for it

I bought my clicker from the book store in the fall and it worked fine for that semester and then for the spring semester my professor never received my responses, even though it was registered and on the correct channel.

Top Hat was used briefly at the end of one of my classes. The application has incredibly invasive privacy settings and I would not like to see it have widespread adaptation.

The clickers are very expensive and you only use them for 1-2 classes. Maybe offer a buyback?

Eliminate TurningPoint. Stupid that we have to pay for it when TopHat is free n/a

Not really because so far everything is fine.

N/A

I would move toward more use of tophat, so that way students do not need to buy clickers, though i understand it may generate revenue through the bookstore.

Being able to see if you are connected or not

Make it so comprehension checks are always visible after class. What's the point of the comprehension check if I can't even look at it after class and I just guess on it during class while the professor doesn't say the answer.

NA

No

No.

No, they seem to work fine. I can't see a way around people bringing friend's clickers to class to fake attendance so aside from that there doesn't seem to be any problems with them.

I would switch them all to Top Hat, because I found it much easier to use. Additionally it costs less and gives better feedback than clickers.

Move Physics over to Top Hat, the clickers are annoying

Reduce prices for price of app & remove courses that force students to buy clicker when polling apps exist

The internet connection in the lecture hall was not that great since 200+ students were all trying to connect and access it during class at the same time

Integrate with smart phones. Clickers are useful but a waste of money. I’m sure in 2018 there’s an app for that

No I enjoy TopHat.

Nope.

Response on the clickers because I am never entirely sure if they are working

I love it Get something open source and easy to use by many people, not some $40 piece of useless garbage that has no other use.

No

Just make sure the professor is well aware of how to use it.

I think TopHat is a great system to use.

No, they are a good system to have

With top hat it is difficult to tell how your grade translates to actual participation points

Send more frequent reminders at the beginning of the semester to make sure that students have registered the clickers for the class. We use clickers off and on throughout college, so it is difficult to remember that we have to do it sometimes and we may lose credit for attendance. none

Set one tool as the standard and discontinue use of the others. Preferably use TopHat across the board.

No

Top Hat was extremely slow during class. It went to the point several times where I was not able to answer a question due to lagging, which costs grade points.

I would not use them for quizzes, because students don't get a chance to master the material just taught in class before getting random questions. Also it's expensive to buy one just for one class.

Clickers are EXPENSIVE, I like the idea they are just pricey.

No, TopHat is great. It would be nice if only one method was used. It is very frustrating when each class decides to use something else. If all lectures/classes used just TopHat or just ResponseWare or whatever method, things would be simpler and cheaper.

No clickers, make it online apps

Have a way for students who forgot their clicker to respond on their phone or laptop n/a

No

The WIFI needs to be prepared for students to use top hat before the semester begins.

Having to pay for clickers is annoying.

I like the idea of the polling systems however in Bostian hall, the wifi connection was very hard to use with top hat because we had such a large class. I had to use my mobile data on my phone just to do my classwork and participate while in class.

No, polling is fine just lengthy.

Not sure

N/A

No

I haven’t used these systems

Tell professors and students to use an app like Socrative instead of buying a 50 dollar clicker that they'll only use for one class. N/A

N/A

I wouldn't make any changes

No. I don't care.

No

Use only tophat instead of turning point because A. It's free (at least for the students) B. It's available on cell phones and laptops, so there's zero chance of a student not having it. On the other hand, people forget their clickers and lose out.

N/A

Not having to use a system where I have to purchase a clicker.

Make the clicker device cheaper.

The one thing I would suggest is that if a teacher knows they are going to use something like TopHat, they should tell the students beforehand so that they know they have to spend money for it

Make it free

No, they are almost exclusively used in large lecture halls. I find using them for attendance being the most efficient way or quizzes

No. Overall the polling systems positively impacted my learning experience and allowed me to feel immersed, even in a large classroom.

Get rid of clickers and use tophat. Or make sure students are aware of the app for clickers (turning point) rather than having to make sure they have a physical object.

Commit to a GLOBAL technology, stick with it and enforce it. (IE use TopHat OR Clickers don't let the teachers decide willy-nilly).

Well I hated the class that used TopHat but the actual resource could probably be more useful if used in more classes.

Sometimes I might forget my clicker so it would be nice to have a mobile app. That way I can also bypass having to buy a clicker.

No

Use a free program because having to pay for clickers that will be used for one, maybe two semesters is rather irritating

I really think these shouldn't be included in any class. They are a waste of money, on top of all our other fees, and half the time they did not work for me.

No

Devices are expensive.

No

More emphasis on using the system on phones so students don't have to purchase a device.

N/A

N/A, glad they are free now for university students.

Utilization of free polling systems, such as tophat.

There should be a backup if you forget your clicker Don't make us buy expensive single use clickers - something online we can access on our phones/laptops is much better

N/A

I really like tophat!

No

Top hat was definitely much better than clicker questions, I was a big fan of the open-ended options to ask questions. I also think it would be helpful in large classes to allow students to ask questions on tophat at any time during class, not just when a poll is open.

Have a universal system. Don't allow different clickers in different classes.

Hard to accurately track attendance when students will just give their clicker to a friend to use for them

I think forcing students to purchase clickers is ridiculous, especially when their participation grade (or even test/quiz grades) depend on it - we could easily all use free software and eliminate the need for $40 clickers.

No

I don’t like using it, it sometimes takes forever to record my attendance and I’m marked absent due to it

N/A

It needs to be able to be done from your phone without that's being penalized

No

Don’t use clicker no

Do you have any comments about NC State's use of 2-step verification?

Some buildings receive no cell phone signal, such as EB3. When I need to recieve a text to get the code to log into my on the computer, the text cannot come through and I am unable to log into my google account. This prevents my from doing any group work on lab computers where no cell service is available

I find it to be a pain, but I'll probably do it eventually. I appreciate the extra security

It was easy

no

Duo frequently unactivates itself. I have to reactivate it with a QR code often, also "remember me for 30 days" does not work for me

I've had huge issues when I return home, as I have no service and cannot receive verification codes. Other than that, while it's annoying, I understand the need.

The lack of instruction isn't useful, i.e. what to do when you have a new phone. Where it is available, you really have to hunt for it.

I think it's a great idea, but I haven't used it yet because I feel that my account is secure enough without it and a lot of people I know who have it complain about how inconvenient it can be every time you want to log in

I think it is a good idea, but still highly inconvenient to use which is why I did not enroll in it.

I would make it more clear who needs to enroll in it. In the emails I received it seemed like all students needed to enroll in it, and I enrolled in it by mistake, but I never figured out how to unenroll in it. It was not a big deal, but it was a minor inconvenience that I did not need and could have been avoided.

I am not sure of the process and have avoided using the 2-step verification because I do not know how extensive it is.

no

It's annoying when I don't have my phone with me but need to log in.

Stop

I hear it's painful to use.

Make better instructions for students who are enrolling or give clear instructions as to how to recover passwords if needed.

It's useful for security, but annoying to remember

I think it is a necessary annoyance.

Don’t want to do it

it sucks and I hate it. I have had times when I for forgot my phone or it was dead along with my computer and so when I logged in to anything requiring duo I couldn't or I would have to run across campus to get my phone and it made it really inconvenient. I have also had classes start 10/15 min late because a professor had to sign into gmail and forgotten his phone and had to go get it.

It’s a pain. Complete waste of time. I have found it to be more of an annoyance than anything else.

It's a pain!

It works well

No, because I have never used it I do not use it and therefore have no specific comments.

No

Yeah I hate this

I am not sure how it works.

It was a pain in the butt especially trying to clock into work on mypack. If you forgot your phone you couldn't clock in or if your phone was dead you couldn't clock in

It is a serious pain

It's a bit annoying to have to do every time I want to sign in, especially when my phone isn't nearby.

I hear it's terrible and I always see people complain about it. Makes me glad I didn't do it. A friend of mine had his phone destroyed and wasn't able to do anything during finals week it's kind of annoying and feels especially silly when i log into wolfware on my cell phone and get the Duo push to the same device. i understand that in theory this is helpful for securing my account but like i said it does feel... silly

I don’t want to use it, it is too much of a hassle.

Don't prompt it that often.

Do not make us do it.

For, mobile devices, Duo has quick confirmation options like using force touch on the iPhone. Google’s app doesn’t

No

No, it is very effective

Everyone should use it. I would say the duo app could be a little better but overall it's effective kinda tedious

No

It is a valuable resource for protection but I have not used it

My phone malfunctions a lot of the time so I wish there were another way so I didn't have to use my phone.

No

I’ve never been told I need it

It was one of the only services I was able to transition okay when my cell phone died. But only cause I had my phone number attached. It could have been bad since it does without warning.

It is annoying

Consider using Okta

I feel it could be better used as I often forget my phone and am unable to login to what I need to

It's kinda annoying for teachers and students because teachers hate seeing phones out because they automatically assume you're just playing on it and I hate it because its one more step I have to do to log in. That's why I don't use it. I just don't share my passwords and I have never had a problem. It seems like a big pain but I guess it would make my account extra safe

No

It works, but it's annoying. I don't think it's worth it unless you know you need it. kind of annoying but I do feel like my information is safer no

I think the Google verification could be a lot smoother if it was similar to Duo.

It is extremely annoying.

I think the 2-step verification is an unnecessary annoyance/hinderance to accessing things that require a unity login. I don't have experience but I have heard testimony from friends the the 2-step verification is slow and finicky, sometimes not working at all. This has caused students to miss deadlines because they were unable to turn in an assignment on moodle, which is unacceptable. A login should never hinder a students ability to do well in a academic course.

Very consistent, which is good glad we have the option to save for 30 days or otherwise i would be big mad

It is a good idea

It often wasted time in my recitations or problem sessions, and it seems unnecessary.

It is inconvenient that I always need my cell phone to log in. If the internet is being slow, it can take a while to log in because my push notification times out.

It is useful but gets annoying at times

Remove it

It is really debilitating to the collaborative process if you ever go to meet with a group or present to a classroom and cannot log into your account because you don't have your phone on you

Needs to be less dependent on phones in case something happens to the phone.

No. no

It should be used more often to increase security

It is only convenient when it is prompted and there is autofill.

The 2-step verification seems to take too much time no

Can be bothersome when trying to log on for class presentations

Good and easy! no

Useful for employees No.

It’s a good idea and brings more safety, 2FA is just a slightly annoying system to use at all. its stressful--what if my phone stopped working/broke? then I can't access any of the things I need to access for school.

It’s good to have the option.

Needs alternative in case a phone is not handy/charged

It's overkill

It's definitely annoying, but I understand why it is required of NC State employees.

It seems a little unnecessary and inconvenient for students to have to go through the process all of the time

It's very convenient once enrolled!

I get why, but it is super inconvenient for student employees - especially for logging in to tests. We have to double and triple check to make sure our phone is charged or you don't leave your phone anywhere so we don't get screwed over. It adds a whole different and frankly unnecessary level of stress when preparing to take an exam.

It's probably a great thing, I I just like the convenience of simply logging in normally.

No

No

No it’s good

I think it's annoying and useless. Everyone I know that works for the University hates it and I feel that if I watch 1 more professor bumble around just trying to log into their computer account ( which is already hard enough for a lot of them) I'm going to just leave class. It wastes so much time.

It's annoying

After I was required to register for Duo Authentication, I had to get a new phone. When trying to connect that phone to Duo, I could not get it to be as effective as I had the first time I registered a device. I can now only log into Duo through text messages sent to my phone, and when I asked the Help Desk for assistance, I did not receive a helpful answer.

None

Takes too long. Locked out if phone Is broken i do not have it because its quite the hassle and requires having my phone out

It is annoying, though I understand why it’s required.

It seems so over the top and annoying to always have to have a second step to just log into moodle. I'm glad i didn't have to sign up for it useless and should not be required for students ever it's safe but it's annoying

It’s not something I’m interested in

No

While I agree with the use of it to keep data safe personally the time to set it up and use it in most situations turns me away. its dumb

No

Please do not require this. It is a pain, and it should be a choice for students. If the system isn't broken don't try to fix it.

I didn't want to do the 2-step verification thing, because the system would require me to install an app on my phone. I don't like the idea of the university requiring me to install a certain app on my personal device just to access my student account. If the system just sent me a code via regular SMS, that would be acceptable. I will absolutely never install an app on my phone just to log in to my student account. Requiring students to install this app would be the hugest mistake. What about students who might not have cell phones? Are you going to require them to buy cell phones and a service plan? Ridiculous!

Seems too annoying to have to use.

I have not enrolled in it, but I have heard reports of some students saying it can be frustrating and takes more time it seems to slightly annoy professors because it takes them longer to log into their accounts for class work

No

It’s annoying

It's complicated when you are in a hurry.

Haven't used it but I've heard it's not great.

I greatly dislike it and don't want it to be a requirement. It is excessive and tedious and results in interference with academic success.

No

It sounds more tedious than it's worth.

Very annoying to do each time logging in but i understand the safetiness of it

I personally don’t like 2-step verification but I find it’s very useful for students

I think it is a genius idea but I don't understand who would want to hack my student account and why- like what are they going to do, pay my bill for me? none

It works if you are connecting to a computer or other device, but if you are login onto your phone then you basically bypass or void the 2-step verification.

It’s terrible.

Duo is very annoying

Dou needs to be easier to register

Not currently! super annoying ihg

I'm in favor, but most people hate it. I don't think it's much of an inconvenience, and it's much better security than just a password.

Nope. Honestly, it sucks and doesn't make sense to have. Using this takes up too much time and makes me less likely to use these programs.

U2F keys would be more usable if they were easily available. Duo's inability to be useful in prompt mode without internet is also an issue, as I do not pay for web service on my cell.

I don’t always have my phone available, and sometimes it dies, so I’d rather not have to rely on this. It also seems like a hassle. its very annoying because if your phone dies there is no way to access your portal because there is only one phone that you can get the code to get in from.

I mainly use the push system when I am on computers that are not my own. On my own computer I just have it remember me and reset it every 30 days.

I commend the usage, it's very important that more places use it and I understand how good it is to have, but I'm really really lazy. Sorry

There should be some way to cease it if it is optional. I've wanted to turn it off for a few months and I can't.

If you forget your second device then you're screwed.

N/A

It is good as I am allowed to use .

It is extremely annoying... especially when one has a chromebook that requires internet connection to log on and then you have networks that require passwords (ncsu guest and ncsu login prompt doesnt work on chrome OS), and then require I change my password yearly, so when I change my ncsu password, i cant use my chromebook unless I am on a non ncsu network.

It sucks because I don't have service where I work and my phone doesn't have the ability to download apps at the moment. takes too much time

N/a

N/A

Google 2fa locked me out of accessing my school google account (gmail, etc) and I had to contact an admin

Nope wish we could disable it

If it could be integrated with Google's it would be so much more easy to use.

I have heard a lot of negtive things about the new verification process

Google 2 step used to be a prompt where it led me to an app and I could push a button but lately it has been sending me a code via text message. I prefer the prompt but I don't know why it switched.

It seems to just complicate and make login into the systems slower. Also what about people who don't have a smart phone or what of their battery died?

No

It sucks! the one month grace period is the only thing that makes it bearable

It is a bit much

I really really don't want to ever have to use it because it seems like a big waste of time I hate it. Its a hastle

Make it mandatory for all students!!!

It would be nice to only have one two-factor method that is required by the university, rather than two. Also, I think I will be purchasing one of those USB keys. Those look cool.

It feels excessive and inconvenient

I think that it is smart and keeps our accounts safe, though sometimes it's a drag to have to always have my phone on me in order to authenticate my log- in from a new/unfamiliar computer.

N/A

Nope.

I’d use it if you could activate once per computer

I appreciate the effort, but I don't think it should be required.

A little bit tedious, but necessary. nope

Duo is a pretty good software. Authentication only takes about 30 seconds. However, I would like to be able to disable it. I like not losing 30 seconds.

It's very inconvenient if your phone dies or doesn't have signal. If you don't have access to your phone you can't login anywhere, which is extremely annoying at times.

I have used two factor in the past, but it does not work as fluidly as i hope.

Not good signal in computer labs so chose not to

Tedious if you leave your phone somewhere / it dies.

No

No

It's probably a good idea, but I'm too lazy to deal with it.

I wish i wouldnt have to do it every time i log in

Nope. I don't mind it.

Good security measure for those who use it.

I just haven’t set it up- it slipped my mind. I have heard that it’s quite annoying system though from other people who have set up theirs.

No

It is very inconvenient

I prefer not to use it as I have a good enough password and I like to be able to sign in quickly. 2-step verification slows things down considerably when I am in a rush.

No It is safe.

I'm concerned that it will be an issue for students that can't afford smart phones.

It just seems more difficult than it should be, when I've seen teachers have to use it some of them struggle and get frustrated with it which is why I choose not to use it.

I wish there was a way to add phones so I would not have to verify every 30 days

Irritating to have to use but worth the safety.

No

None

It is very frustrating to use and I feel like its not worth the hassle considering how often I need to log into devices. Especially when it comes to work computers

It's annoying when I'm in a class that requires Moodle or any of my NC State accounts but I have no wifi, and therefore don't receive the Duo push or the authentication code to use my accounts. Especially for statistical programming classes in SAS where you use your computer the entire time for graded in-class activities. its annoying

Google is hard because if you are in a class you cant use your phone it can be tricky to log into google

It’s annoying don’t make me do it

I don’t like it

I would boycott the system if there wasn't a "remember me" option. n/a

--

No.

No

It's so inconvenient

This is extremely unhelpful, I do not always have my cell phone on me and sometimes it could be dead. I see so many people struggling because this login requires them to have their cell phone available. I hope I am never required to do this.

I don’t know a whole lot about it but from seeing others use it, it seems inconvenient and frustrating.

I do not like two-step verification because it is cumbersome when you're phone is not working or dead.

Makes shared computer labs difficult because I have to go through a long process to get all my stuff I was working on. Also if I forget my phone than I am SOL

It’s very annoying

N/A

It doesn't seem that necessary, but if the university believes that it should be used then they should require all students to have it and enforce that rule. Not particularly

My mom hates it.

I live Microsoft’s two step verification better cause it sends you a notification on your watch you can accept rather than typing a code.

This is stupid and is to much of a hassle. This needs to be changed to a system that is less troublesome.

Should be automatically disabled after you no longer work for ncsu

No

Seems like a hassle

I think it is a good way to ensure safe and proper login. it sucks get rid of it

None

Ive heard its really annoying and takes up a good deal of time

No

The 30-day option is a lifesaver and nobody seems to know about it

Stop

Have only heard negative things

No

N/A

I use the login way too much to wait for two factor every time

It can be a little irritating but I’m glad that you can have it remember a device for 30 days. I wish you could accept a google prompt through your lockscreen like you can with duo.

I think that it is a more protected method, however there are many risks and not enough entry points if two of them fail.

Nope.

No

It’s kind of a pain but if it protects my info I’m okay with it

No

I think it is useful for some people, but I have chosen not to use it because I think it can be inconvenient

No

None no questions

If you forget your phone you can't do any work It is annoying

Nope

No no

I have used a similar process elsewhere, and there are times I am without my phone and cannot login, which is very inconvenient. Having a secure backup to this would improve this type of verification a lot.

I hate it.

I would like to know of another way to get duo when I don’t have my phone near me. Like if there are back up codes similar to google

Too much of a hassle but secure

That is annoying and mostly unnecessary

It seems very inconvenient

It seems excessive so I hope that students will never be forced to use it.

It’s nice that you can verify Duo from the notification on your phone without changing your current app, whereas google makes you go into the app to verify.

We should be able to un-enroll

N/A please don't make it required

It's a frustrating system that would do well to be streamlined.

It is an unnecessary pain

Very secure, can be hassle if one forgot phone none

I believe all the 2 step verification's should be combined into one app (instead of having one duo app and one google app) but I am not sure if this is something NC State can fix or not.

I've heard it is very annoying

Nope.

Duo is convenient. I wish I did not have to manage google's two step verification separately. n/a

I have heard that it is super annoying and complicated for no reason stop

N/A

Tedious but effective Having an option to save your password for longer periods of time would be beneficial, as I get to work sometimes and have to go through the whole spiel on my phone just to clock in.

Inconvenient.

Maybe have a longer "remember me" timer so I don't need to re-enable my devices every month.

I think it should remain optional.

N/A

Needs to revise policy for employees, or simplify the process

It is dumb

Everyone I know who uses it is frustrated with it

Good system, but I was okay without it like last year.

It's a very good security measure. I just don't like using it because it's inconvenient if I need to get into something quickly.

It’s really inconvenient if you break or lose you phone. It’s also inconvenient if you go out of the country.

It's dumb because if you lose your phone, you can't access anything. I don't want to miss An assignment because my phone isn't glued to me

It can be a hassle sometimes when trying to get log into a computing lab computer quickly, but I see the value in using 2-step verification.

It's annoying but I see why it's needed

It's great

It sucks

No

I've heard from others it is very frustrating having to bounce from your laptop to your phone

Nope! This is great!

It seems to be a pain to use. I've had a teacher cancel class because he couldn't log in. I've also had a classmate struggle to access an in-class moodle test because they needed to 2-factor authenticate to take the test, but their phone had died (and teachers don't want us having phones to take tests). Also, there are sometimes in class when we have to access moodle in-class activities quickly, and the 2-step verification takes more time than the professors give us to complete the questions.

Overall a well implemented system n/a

Sometimes it's tedious to receive a text then have to plug that back into the computer but I understand the security factor to it

I never signed up for it, but the people that I do know who enrolled said that it was more of a hassle than not. Sometimes they wouldn't have their phone on them.

It seems annoying because you have to keep your phone on you, and make sure you have charge, and have to wait for the authentication code or text to come through. n/a Seems great for teachers and staff, but I don't really see the use for the average student.

Necessary, but often annoying.

Time consuming and difficult when changing phones

No

I have not done it Becuase I feel that my information is secure and that this step can cause issues sometimes with presentations in class.

I think it is a good idea, I just haven't gotten around to it. Making it mandatory seems a bit extreme, but I do understand the logic behind it.

Considering the poor cell phone signal in some buildings, I have seen multiple people get locked out of their unity accounts when trying to do in class activities due to not being able to receive a confirmation code through text

Very useful!

That sounds awfully annoying. If I did know about this it would be a hassle to log in every time.

It's very inconvenient

IT SUCKS. I don't have my phone on me at all times so I can never log in to anything!

I haven't enrolled in it because I'm not an employee and it takes too long to log in.

I personally choose not to do it because so many of my classes have tests at Delta, and I don't want to deal with it there.

No

It definitely does a good job keeping accounts safer, but I was required to get it just for a volunteer position at the vet school and I wish I had had a choice to not get it.

I think it can be tedious at times but I understand why it is necessary

I should be an option, not forced on people that know how to make a strong password.

I hATe it. It sucks because you can’t log in for if you need to give a presentation in class and you forgot your phone. It gets in the way of starting work or completing projects. This is the worst thing ever. I rather someone steal whatever, than deal with this bloody system.

Duo is good

The availability of Duo has made me feel more at ease that my sensitive information is protected.

If you're going to implement this, PLEASE make the kids do it at orientation (I work at OIT, and when it was made mandatory back in October/November it weighted us down so much we had trouble helping students with actual hardware issues).

Its not super important to me.

It seems like more of a pain than a benefit.

How necessary is it needed to protect my account?

Can you not have this anymore. I understand it's for like authenticity but it's super annoying.

It's very useful for cyber security! it's horrible, and I hate it. Sometimes I can't log into my email because I may not have my cell phone with me. I think there should be a security question option for incidents that may happen such as those.

No I do not use it

I think it is unnecessary and a hassle.

There's really no point of having it remember you for 30 days and requiring a push.

There should be a way to disable it.

It's easy to use but annyoing when I have to do it everytime even on my personal devices.

It seems like a hassle for everyone that uses it

Students need usb keys as a backup

It's very contradictory. We need our phones to log into computers for class, but we aren't supposed to have our phones in class with us.

Wish it was optional to disable sometimes

N/A

Really need easier other options for getting in. My friend broke her phone and couldn’t access course content with finals approaching.

I don't like it and I used to have the app but it never was associated with an account so now I can't use the app and if I don't have cell service I can't log in

N/A

Nope haven't used it

It seems to protect accounts well, however, I know of many people who find it a hassle to check their phone regularly for a verification code.

Do not use because it seems like an inconvenience n/a

If you have any positive or negative comments about the WolfTV cable system...

WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE

I'm sure the service is fine, but I already pay for HBO, Showtime, etc. So I have no need to pay for it again.

There was one point in the semester where some of the channels were on the fritz, but the information channel stated that WolfTV knew about it and were fixing it, which I found a nice touch.

Those with cable shouls be able to use a school login to view cable subscription blocked content i.e., hbo go, espn, abc, etc

Some mornings I want to watch the English Premier League on NBC but the channel switches over to the acc sports network which is both annoying and ridiculous.

There are just so many different ways to watch content now that your cable price was ridiculous.

I came up with a brilliant advertising plan for NC State Athletics. WolfTV should partner with Athletics to promote the channels that games will be broadcast on. So if the football game is coming on channel 36-3 or whatever at a certain time, tell students to tune in to whatever number the channel is at that time to watch the football game. You could do it for basketball, baseball, whatever sports are televised. I am not good at remembering which channels are which so every time I tried to watch an away game I would flip through all the channels until I found it and it was very frustrating, I would have loved something that told me where to go with my on-campus TV to watch.

Cable was very very spotty most of the time, and made it very difficult to watch tv shows

I think the charge is definitely too much to be asking college students to pay. We probably just want it to watch Sports or news. We have Netflix and other things we pay for separately for movies.

WolfTV was never installed in our TV. We only had the wolfbytes channel

Not make them a mandatory

N/A

I don't watch TV so I don't have good feedback, so I apologize for that.

Too exspensive

I don't watch much TV so I have no interest in this service

I have never used WolfTV and find it unnecessary to pay for a service I don't use. There should be an option to opt-in or out: though I understand this could be contractually difficult.

Keep the channels but don’t raise the price everything already costs too much money there’s no need to raise our bills!

I considered it, but the cost drove me away and left me just using online streaming services.

The cost of wolf tv prevented me from purchasing Cable TV should be free to students! It is free at other universities.

I do not have Wolf TV.

N/A

I currently don’t use cable TV streaming apps because I can’t. They require login information. If WolfTV could give us a way to log in to those apps maybe based on our UnityID, that would be appreciated. We cannot always catch the shows live on the WolfTV premium channels.

Don't have any comments.

Great way to watch the games when I couldn’t be there in person!

I do not watch TV at all. Can it be possible to make the WolfTV cable charges optional (in Wolf Ridge Apartments). I saw that many people like me do not watch TV at all but we have to pay for it.

I don't think it should really be a thing. Like you asked previously, all the choices we have to watch shows, there's not really a need for the cable

Make WolfTV optional in wolf ridge

Did not use it.

Worked very well and provided useful channels to watch. Although, I wish we could get the Braves so I could watch them.

Why cant we watch ncsu sports on the channels provided??? make it free

Make it OPTIONAL to pay for it. We didn't use it a single time. Didn't even have the cable to connect to it.

I very rarely watch tv and would rather not have it and not pay for it, but I have to pay for it for wolf ridge. I would rather not.

No one watches TV anymore!!!

I probably wouldn't ever use it. n/a no

I paid for the premium channels this year and didn't receive them!

I kinda wish you had the option to have those premium movie channels. Some people use them and others don't even touch them.

I have never used it.

Our channel 9 didn't have volume. that kinda sucked i don't appreciate how we only had access in our personal rooms. go ahead and put it in the common spaces and just make us pay a little more.

Too expensive. Not worth it since I can just watch games over the air.

Never used it

I've never watched.

I think cable should be optional. Students with a television should pay for cable Great!

No

Housing refused to facilitate the repair of the cable access in Gold Hall's community lounge until part way through the spring semester, this academic year. This is annoying as it hindered a key part of communal interactions and events. The main reason I watch WolfTV is because of the premium movie channels. Drop some of the other channels and reduce price.

Occasionally, the sound would go out on NBC (channel 9). Also, some of the "cable" channels would not have a picture, but the local channels did. no

North hall needs more than 1 cable TV in the lounge. There are 200 students living in the building and only one cable TV n/a

None at this time.

It would be nice if there was a way for us to authenticate to online streaming services by using wolftv as a tv provider. It would have made it easier to watch things like the olympics.

I never use it. I didn’t bring a cable. It would be nice to be able to opt in or out of the service.

The decimal system for channels is very confusing and frustrating. I wonder if that can be changed.

N/A

It is far too expensive.

I enjoy being able to watch different movies on the movie channels don’t drop them

Good selection

No channels were dropped sporadically throughout the semester and reappeared later

N/A

I am really glad we have cable here, it keeps me connected to the world, please don't get rid of it!!

I like that WolfTV has showtime and HBO. I watch shows on those channels and would have no way of watching them otherwise.

None would be nice to have cheaper packages available. i just sports cannels

N/A

I wish there was a list next to TVs in common areas so I'd know the channels. I always have to look up an out of date list on my phone to find my show.

If residents do not have a TV, we should Not pay the bill related to TV.

Fox TV channel needed

The channel listing should be updated on the website You might as well drop those channels because THEY DIDNT WORK for about 1/3 of this semester anyway. They displayed the spectrum logo like a cable box had gone into sleep mode or something.

I don't think it is fair to automatically include the cost of wolftv cable in the wolf ridge and village apartments. For instance, even if you don't bring a tv, you are charged the cost. not everyone watches that much television

TV Guide "NC State Cable" doesn't match our channel listings. BBCA, Fox, and FX and such are missing, which makes it annoying to try and know what's on tv.

I do not believe it should be required for wolf ridge residents.

I never watch cable TV. Feel free to drop WolfTV completely.

I never watch TV so I have no input, sorry.

I did not use wolf tv but I was charged for it.

It shouldn't be mandatory for apartments

More channels would be nice

Positives: You have Sports channels besides ESPN! (NBA Network and MLB Network are the best ones)

N/A

With cable, all i want is to be able to watch football, so it would help to drop the price for those not needing all the extras.

Please drop the price a lot if you drop HBO etc. I only watch like HGTV, Discovery Channel, and the news. I do not need those channels.

I wasn't able to get any service on my TV in wolf ridge none

Campus stores should carry the cable necessary to use cable so it is easier to get one to use the cable we pay for.

Its kinda annoying to have to pay for it when I know I'm never going to use it. :/

NFL network.

I dont want to pay for that

Honestly, this was NOT advertised enough. If I'd known this existed, I may very well have done it.

No

Lots of glitches in the video/audio on every channel. Sometimes the video and audio will freeze for about 3 seconds. This can happen several times in a single minute.

HBO and showtime are often unavailable. Showtime has a screensaver and doesn’t actually have the movies.

Add OWN.

WolfTV is completely useless and should be removed or optional for students.

Kind of expensive but overall was good.

Didn't buy I wish my room did not include WolfTV if the room cost was cheaper.

,jdcb

Having access to the HBO and other premium content by default is one of the few things about the WolfTV package that draws interest. Otherwise, YouTubeTV is better and cheaper in every way. I am looking forward to the premium content next year.

In Wolf Village and Wolf Ridge the current pricing for TV seems a bit extreme that everyone pays to watch the main TV.

I have only used cable tv here on campus to view the NC State sports games.

None.

When I was using WolfTV last semester, I noticed that the picture quality of major broadcast channels such as NBC was often subpar.

Please update the channel guide online.

Maybe provide the option to pay for the premium channels so people who want a cheaper option and don’t care about the movie channels can be happy too

N/A

N/A

I found that its cheaper and more useful to use a mix of services, such as Netflix, YouTube, and websites, which make me feel like I don't need WolfTV in my room. With that said, it's extremely important in my community areas.

Provide a list of channels or a "whats on TV" channel

Too expensive.

I could only get 1 channel to work.... and it was sports. Not the good channels like hbo, showtime, etc.

WolfTV should be made optional in apartments. I never used the service once despite paying for it. If the service was optional, I would not choose to use it, as I have several streaming services to meet my needs. WolfTV was not even available in the shared living room.

Don't make people pay for WolfTV if they don't want to use it.

Don't turn the movie channels off after a certain time, I'm an adult.

Too expensive.

Good selection of channels

N/A

The premium channels would not be available on several occasions. In the recent months, several channels will go out and not return for almost an hour or more almost every day which was quite frustrating especially when in the middle of a movie

Sometimes the audio would not match the video or there would be no audio at all. Overall the tv wasn't bad despite not always being HD.

Letting us be able to log into services like HBO GO if we pay for cable would be extremely useful.

It shouldn't be required that I pay for it. Students should have an option to opt out if they do not plan to use the service. I am especially bother by it because I am on several scholarships and loans to pay for school and the $100 or so I spend on this service a year would go a long way in helping me afford/pay for my actual education. annoying that its mandatory for apartments. We barely used it. Just making streaming sports events easier I enjoy the WolfTV system in the lounges of my residence hall as it provides an opportunity for people to come together that enjoy watching sports or similar shows. I don't have WolfTV in my personal room not because of the price of the service, but rather it is a distraction that I don't really want to put in my room.

Must keep HBO and premium channels or at least have the option for the same/current price

I don't watch TV. I am glad that the university offers the service, but I wish that it wasn't a required fee for living on campus.

You should not be required to pay for it unless you have a TV and are using it for cable

Get logo!

Haven't experienced it.

Unrealistic cost for a college student. nah

Maaannnn ain't nobody watch actual television anymore. Maybe if you had really cheap video services like netflix then maaayyybbbeee people would buy it.

No

I'm required to buy cable. I don't use cable. That's frustrating to me.

Cost to much money to be worth getting it when you stream lots of content online for no cost.

I don't use this but just for y'all to get the best feedback, don't get rid of these channels. These are the reason why people pay for it.

I don't really care to have TV, but if I have to have it, I want channels I actually want like HBO and Showtime

Channels frequently go out.

It is very expensive

Provide a cable handout to residents and a online copy as well.

We shouldn't be forced to buy cable in Wolf Ridge

Too expensive

I don't like that I must pay for cable, even though I don't (and never have) owned a TV.

I've never used it--waste of my money

It should not be mandatory to buy in an on-campus apartment n/a don't have it

I only use the cable to watch certain shows, so I wouldn't appose losing channels

Never use it.

WolfTV should not be required for apartments. I only use it occasionally because it is there and neglecting it would be a complete waste of money.

I have never used it, nor have the ability to use it, nor even know how to use it. I only use WolfTV to watch soccer, and the channels available make this very convenient for me.

I would be inclined to purchase WolfTV if it provided more sports coverage channels.

N/A

Not particularly

I am currently not aware of how to connect to WolfTV.

Although I'm not aware of it, WolfTV should offer a digital access to view and stream videos on the computer. For example, if I want to watch a football game on Fox or ABC, I have to log into my computer and use a sign in from a cable provider. If WolfTV could be that cable provider, it would make me more likely to sign up for it.

None

Why isn’t it full HD for some of the channels it makes no sense. Also half of the channels don’t work on my friends TV and he can’t fix it.

I would say yes to reducing the channels but if the price is going to be dropped it has to be by a significant amount. The positive comments are that I love the variety of the basic channels and the large amount of sporting channels. The negative is during the weeks of the last days of school the channels were limited to maybe 10 channels. No one wants to pay the amount we pay for television to be limited to just those channels.

I dont ever use the cable, I wish I didn't have to pay for it no

N/A

If you could reprogram it so the channels would be different numbers, rather than 21-1 and 21-2, that would be great

Too expensive and can't compete with my Roku.

Having HBO is the only reason I use it. KEEP IT!!!

It's alright.

If there isn't a guide channel, one would be very useful.

I don't know anyone who willingly signed up for the service

Works flawlessly with Hauppauge USB TV Tuner.

To the question above, I have no opinion. I have not used and do not have WolfTV.

I didn't use that.

We were unable to watch any of our basketball games using WolfTV, making it difficult to find anywhere to view it.

Need an info channel

I don't bother to watch television at all. too expensive

No

I rarely watch Wolf TV. People would be fine without the tv. I like having the ability to relax and watch TV in my room!

Costs too much to be worth it.

I don't watch TV. Too many ads.

I would appreciate if the channel guide was up to date. I would frequently find that the number listed on the PDF was inaccurate.

Students should be able to access hbo go and the online news sites through a log in to be able to watch when they aren't in the apartment or their roommate is using the tv

Why do Wolf Ridge apartments have to have wolfTV. If it isn't optional then the cost should be lowered

Why does the ncsu channel never play ncsu sports? I want to watch football and basketball games, not random lectures that I don't care about.

I wish it wasn't mandatory for on-campus apartments.

None at the moment, but channels are fair prices none

I’d like to have someone from OIT come and set it up because the process is unclear on the website

Adding the ability to use HBO go similar to other universities would be nice.

It's personally too expensive for me when i can just watch other things online.

If a whole apartment doesn’t want cable they shouldn’t be charged.

Wolf Village should not be required to pay for the cable unless they want it. Most people I know very rarely even watch tv.

Having it required for students in apartments is frustrating. There is an issue with the cable system in my area of wolf ridge where the premium channels were distorted and often had signal drop out. I never used it past that.

What's the point of dropping those channels? There would be nothing to watch, nothing exciting or stimulating entertaining, anyway. too expensive i think it should be optional, as neither me nor my roommates use it to watch TV; we have a roku.

N/A

I strongly believe WolfTV should not be an extra fee. Many other universities provide cable for free.

Way too expensive

I think it’s stupid that because I live in an apartment I’m required to pay for it even though I don’t ever use it

NA

None

NA In the cable guide which is available online, some of the local stations are not correctly labeled. For instance WRAL/CBS should be WRAL/NBC. I have an older Samsung 40" 1080p TV and for whatever reason the cable service is very "laggy" on particular channels. The video will stutter consistently but the audio seems to be fine.

The cable outages and losing channels. The decimals in channels because the lack of a cable box.

I would like for the quality of the guide to be improved if possible as I unable to see the programming schedule for most channels.

I don’t have much time to watch TV, but I think dropping the prices for the cable system would probably be beneficial for students.

The only thing I don't like is the price.

Please either change the online details or actually make wolftv optional. No matter where I've lived, it's not been optional.

Implementing a guide so you don't have to look up the TV show/movie schedule for each channel.

Premium movie channels have been out of service a lot, this makes me very angry to have to pay for it

I don’t like that it is required to have in some places

I've lost connection to WolfTV in my room before for about 3 days for no reason (I was out of the room, no cables were moved). It later restored by itself.

I would pay if I could make a custom package of only the channels I wanted, at a reduced cost.

I can never find any football games on tv even though I have to pay for cable

I would only use it for sports.

Do not have it nor do I ever plan to get it (I find TV/Cable distracting). Netflix is enough!

Stop having cable outages! It is absolutely ridiculous that in the middle of the playoffs, you have a cable outage.

No real complaint other than the mandatory status in Wolf Ridge. Some are being charged for a service that they never use and possibly do not have the ability to use. make it cheap

It's very expensive for college students

Lost channel 47 completely within last couple weeks. n/a

I wish it were a lot cheaper

Did not use Becuase if I watch tv it’s netflix it is b=very good that they offered this, however, I ended up not watching TV at all so it was a waste of money for me personally.

Yeah. I don't have a T.V. That needs to change.

We don't have an option whether to have the WolfTV or not, thus the cost is added regardless of whether we choose to use it or not. Since none of us ever use it, it's a giant waste of money and we're already paying so much.

I don't use it because I don't want to pay for it or a TV. Could there be a way to use it through an app on a smart phone or tablet or even online like abc.com? I don't like that you are required to pay for it in Wolf Village. My roommates and I barely use it, and I would have appreciated the option to not pay for it. Or to only pay for certain channels.

This year in Sullivan I did not really have room for a TV and did not feel the need for one. Next year in Wolf Village I look forward to having a TV to watch sports and other shows.

I have a roomate who paid for it so it's good, however the cost should be split and allow multiple coax connections in the room if both roomates want it.

I feel regular TV as we know is dying and better access to media hubs like Hulu and Netflix is the way to go.

Well I live in a sorority house so the actual cost isn't all that bad.

I found it annoying that I was automatically charged for cable that I never used. I wish I had an option to opt out.

I don't watch cable a lot so less money would be better.

I didn't use it much in my room, but we all used it in the living room. living in wolf ridge shouldn't require paying for cable

Please don't require me to buy it.

Wolftv is a bit overpriced, and the channel guide that is provided is not accurate.

Since we have HBO we should be able to use HBO Go or HBO Now but we can't and it's annoying because we pay for it

N/A

I didn't appreciate being charged for WolfTV to live in Wolf Ridge, because I almost never watched it. I don't understand why I didn't have an option.

Pointless. Cable TV is a dying industry. What would be really cool is Netflix offered through the school (possibly at a reduced rate). Nobody watched cables except for large events once or twice a year. This is what lounge access is great for.

Very expensive, streaming services such as Netflix are cheaper and more convenient options n/a

No

I don’t use the service, I use my tv for gaming

I have no idea if this would even be possible but maybe that thing that NVIDIA is trying to do with cloud GPUs.

This isn't necessarily something I've seen or heard, it's more of something I thought of when I was looking at what room I would have on the NCSU housing website my freshman year. So you can see a room for your building, like a style of what it could be. I think that it would be more beneficial if NC State took measurements of the room and the furniture and allowed for a more interactive website. A website where the viewer could "move the furniture" in the room to work out the setup before move-in day. This could help eliminate some move-in day struggles, you would know exactly where all the furniture would need to go without having to bring all your tools to measure and without wasting time trying to find the optimal space saving set up.

No big suggestions. NC State is considerably more innovative and tech-savvy than most colleges. If anything, students need to learn to take advantage of all that is offered by NC State.

I believe the university uses all technology solutions that I can take advantage of for the time being.

More software project management solutions other than Github (Perforce, etc.) include more computers or study rooms in the libraries

NC State is ahead of the curve, so I’m not sure.

So far, I havent heard too much about new technologies. I know that we have the BigBelly Solar trashcans, and at some bus stops there are solar chargers, but I havent heard of much else. I guess one technology to implement, if viable, would be solar energy, just to have more outside solar chargers.

Alot of residence halls and building after hours are accessed by our campus id. Sometimes it can be a hassle to pull out your entire wallet. It would be nice of there was an application that could we could just tap a button and get into the building. Again, I would really like if class room recording were a more consistent component for classes. Sometimes missing class is unavoidable and you miss having the same interaction with the information as you would in class from just copying someone else's notes.

Get HBO Go/Hulu for the students would be really great. Possibly instead of Cable.

Google Fiber for faster internet

I would suggest for NC State to be active in the r/NCSU subreddit as a form of outreach and involvement with students.

NCSU has a Reddit forum (reddit.com/r/NCSU) and it is a great way to communicate. I think NCSU Housing has done some stuff on there before, but as long as there isn't any censorship, it might be worth it for official University entities to get involved there.

I would keep the projection on talley by the field outside of talley always on in order to keep information flowing. This would be useful to project important news because a lot of students see that.

A forum for people to talk about classes they've taken/offer advice about registration

A better oncampus app that doesn't turn off your music as soon as you open it, that has the correct menu for the dining halls that day, and that has all the events going on on campus that day listed instead of just one or two with no explanation as to where or what they are just a date and time. you could utilize the app to being the go to communication app for nc state's activities and happenings each day. not too sure

Offer yubikeys with ncsu laptops to guarantee easy 2FA implementation. Take yubikeys back after graduation. Short term cost is students (34015 per https://oirp.ncsu.edu/facts-figures/the-basics/student-statistics/) times cost per yubikey ($50 per https://www.yubico.com/product/yubikey-4- series/#yubikey-4-nano) which provides a fixed cost of roughly $1.7 million, or about 3.5% of NCSU oits budget (in 2010 from https://oit.ncsu.edu/wp- content/uploads/2015/11/OIT-2010-11-Budget-Summary_0.pdf). After fixed costs, variable cost is replacing lost yubikeys and employee time spent which is offloaded to students to discourage losing devices. If roughly 3.5% of budget is available, providing everyone yubikeys is feasible. Furthermore, NCSU might be able to negotiate bulk rate discount considering it is quite large. Benefits would be fast 2FA especially compared to typing in a code from another device or even responding to a push notification which may require entering a pin or password on other device. Everyone would have access to 2FA, so unwarranted remote access to any student accounts would be virtually impossible. Even if the device is physically stolen, yubikeys can be remotely disabled by a provider, so there is still acceptable physical security. Since yubikeys integrate with Duo (per Duo website https://duo.com/docs/yubikey), it would be straightforward to migrate existing Duo users to 2FA. Personally, I think it stands to whether y'all think student's data is worth protecting. I don't know whether or not lots of students are losing their data to remote attacks. If you see a need, it would be wise to use this solution. Even if these attacks don't happen, peace of mind is worth something to marketing/recruiting. It would also be possible to get replacement yubikeys through Amazon in under 2 days (DISCLAMER: Amazon will be my employer.)

Ask more questions about VCL. I had my fair share of difficulties with using the virtual computing lab, as connections frequently got either cut off or went in and out. I used it primarily for ASPEN, so the only way I could save my work was emailing a new version to myself. This is fine, but when the connection was so spotty, I'd sometimes lose progress, which was frustrating. Also, when my professor who taught my class ASPEN tried to do in class demonstrations, the demand for the server (over 100 people trying to log onto ASPEN at once) was too much for the server and it crashed for everybody. If you ask questions about VCL I am sure you will get a few heated responses, but I think there will be some useful suggestions from more technologically proficient students as well.

ResNet has been very effective this year, and I wish for it continue to work well. Thank you!

Good survey. Informed me about Lynda.com and NCSU Drive Space, both of which I didn't know about.

I was really disappointed that I couldn't use my own wireless network. It made setting up IoT devices and home automation experiments very difficult. I also don't understand the rule preventing us from pointing a DNS name at a campus IP address. The external IP address is still accessible without the DNS name, it's just a lot more inconvenient. I moved my raspberry pi running Home Assistant to my fiancee's apartment as a result of this rule, which disconnected it from my phillips hue smart light system I was running in my apartment room. In general, as a comp sci student, it is frustrating that experiments and exploratory activities like these are limited as a result of restrictions on the hardware we are allowed to operate. Instead of blanket banning personal wifi routers, I would suggest guidelines for network interference. Most routers these days are capable of regulating their broadcast frequencies and strengths. I would think that if a student had a reason for setting up their own in an apartment that already had wifi, they would know how to access and manage those settings to avoid interfering with campus wifi. none

The mypack portal website is still pretty broken, even after the recent update that lets it sometimes work on mobile devices. While the confusing navigation system was mostly fixed, pages frequently refuse to load (ie, none of the options in a menu show up), even after refreshing and waiting. This can make finding a particular page difficult, because you're not sure if the menu option didn't load, or if what you're trying to find is somewhere else. The old drop-down system, as convoluted as it was, let you see the options in each menu before trying to load the page. The enrollment wizard popup also continues to scale poorly with browser windows, making certain buttons or features inaccessible.

The only feedback I have is about a question on this survey. I understand that Sony and Mircosoft's consoles are consistently called Playstations and XBoxes, respectively, but Nintendo is not necessarily a catch-all term for Nintendo consoles. Yes, people (especially older people) generally call consoles "Nintendos," but this annoys me as a bit of a Nintendo connoisseur. Some Nintendo consoles have not had Nintendo in their official names, such as the Wii and WiiU consoles. I would suggest using "Nintendo console" instead. As mentioned before, please fix the direct ethernet connection connectivity issues for users that want a direct connection.

You should make surfing for porn and hentai legal. Everybody does it.

Please make Chromecast and similar tools easier to implement on NCSU Wifi. I have one but never had the chance to go through the trouble of getting it set up because of the wifi system.

Good job. The walk in center was also very helpful, professional and quick in assessing and solving my problem.

I would like to suggest that you take a look at some of the dead spots around campus and see if you can correct some of them

Network faults almost non-existent, good job

The OIT walk-in center has been a valuable resource to me this semester. Any time I have had a problem, I have been able to bring in my computer to have it examined and repaired (I've only had software issues this semester). Staff has consistently been quick and helpful. I would recommend this resource to any student having technical issues.

I work at the OIT Walk-In Center, so this survey could have slight bias. Only thing of note I wanted to say. No

Stop requiring WolfTV in Wolf Ridge. We don't have time to watch TV anyway, I don't want to pay for it.
