Sports 1. Asian Football Confederation confirmed that India will host 2022 Women’s Asian Cup, as first time India is hosting it since 1979. 2. Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) announced that 4th edition of Asian Youth Para Games to be held in Bahrain in December 2021. 3. FIFA Annouced Australia and New Zealand as hosts for 2023 FIFA Women’s Football World Cup. 4. Following Manchester City’s defeat to Chelsea, Liverpool won 2019-20 English Premier League Football season with 7 games still left in season. This is first time that Liverpool has won the English Premier League title. 5. Indian umpire Nitin Menon has been inducted into International Cricket Council’s Elite Panel of Umpires for 2020-21 season, replacing England’s umpire Nigel Llong. 6. Misc. Sports Events (June 2020) - Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijju inaugurated India Community Coach Development Programme, as a 25-day long programme for community coaches and PE teachers all over country. He also launched Khelo India e-Pathshala programme, as India's first National-level open online coaching and education programme for grassroot level athletes across India. Hockey India recommended Women Team Captain Rani Rampal for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. Vandana Kataria, Monika and Harmanpreet Singh were recommended for Arjuna Award. Also, Boxing Federation of India (BFI) nominated Amit Panghal and Vikas Krishan for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. Earlier, BCCI had Nominated Rohit Sharma for Rajiv Gandi Khel Ratna Award. Also, All India Football Federation (AIFF) recommended former skipper IM Vijayan for Padma Shri Award. Also, Badminton Association of India (BAI) recommended Kidambi Srikanth for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, after he gave his apology to federation for his misconduct during Asian Championship earlier in 2020. Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Indian weightlifter K Sanjita Chanu has been cleared of doping charge by the International Weightlifting Federation due to “non-conformities” in handling of her sample. International Association of Athletics Federations's Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) banned Indian runner Gomathi Marimuthu for 4-years after she tested positive for banned substances. Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) banned Former European high jump champion Alexander Shustov (Russia) for 4-years for doping. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan has won World Stars Sharjah Online International Chess Championship. Indian Grandmaster Pentala Harikrishna finished second. International Tennis Federation Named India’s Niki Poonacha as a player member to ITF World Tennis Tour Player Men’s panels. (WKF) provisionally de-recognised Karate Association of India(KAI), for infighting and violating WKF statutes during its 2019 elections. Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) informed that K. Sanjita Chanu will receive Arjuna Award for 2018, after the two time Commonwealth Games Gold medalist was cleared of doping charges. Rahul Dravid named greatest Indian Test batsman as per a poll by Wisden India, getting past Sachin Tendulkar by a narrow margin. 7. Sports ministry will establish Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) under Khelo India Scheme, with 1 KISCE to be identified in each state and UT. In first leg, ministry has identified state-owned sports facilities in eight states - Karnataka, Odisha, Kerala, Telangana and northeast states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland. Also, Sports Ministry will establish 1000 Khelo India Centers (KIC) at the district level across country. These centers will either be run by a past champion or have them as coaches. Top
