Michael Gaynor President Dundalk Chamber of Commerce flying the flag for Dundalk in Brussels last week

Last week a delegation from the Irish Chamber of Commerce Network, led by Chambers Ireland/which included Michael Gaynor of Dundalk Chamber, met with key officials from across the European Commission in Brussels to discuss matters of importance to the Irish business community. With representation from Chambers of Commerce across Ireland, the objective of the trip was to highlight the need for the European Commission to proactively engage with the business community, particularly SMEs, on issues like trade, innovation and skills.

Michael Gaynor President of Dundalk Chamber was very vocal in his deliberations while attending business briefings at the European Commission Offices and at meetings with Irish MEP’S at the Buildings, Mairead Mc Guinness, , , , Marian Harkin and Sean Kelly attended. Michael highlighted the concerns of businesses and communities living along the Border Regions of Ireland and stated that any return of a ‘hard border’ would have obvious negative consequences for cross border trade and economic activity, and a detrimental effect on communities living along the border. Michael commented, “That while Brexit may be dominating headlines in Ireland, it is dramatically less newsworthy on the continent”. Michael also got an excellent opportunity while making a presentation at ‘Eurochambres’ office Brussels, to members of various chambers from across Europe, to outline the opportunities that are available for investment in the Dundalk area. He highlighted the unique advantages of setting up business in the locality, and that “Dundalk is a great place to do business in”.
