Earning a degree can turn a student into a boot-licking, eager-beaver employee with no time for frivolity. However, you can be successful while remaining an irresponsible chucklehead. Just remember that youth is too fleeting and orecious to waste on growing up. After all , living for tomorrow is stupid when you miss all the todays. For instance, suppose a group of drunken revelers is playing loud tunes and whooping it up while you're trying to study in your room. What a bunch of dog-bones, you say to yourself. The more fun they have, the madder you get. Actually, you're the dog bone. If your work is The Hawley Armory field, with Co-op at left and Psychology Building at right [Jim Loflnk photos]. so important, you should be doing it else- where. If not, why aren't you at the party? The administration wants to cover the depicted lands with metered parking lots. Traffic flow on campus most be MCcommudated, especialry in the often-crowded central section. The University can pay back the cost of the lots with OPINION revenues from meter fares and parking tickets. These new Tad Handley lots will provide additional spaces for people coming from off-campus who use the library, buy from the Co-op, and visit Keys to Graduation Open space or the Benton Museum. Yet the new construction would clutter the center of campus, You're not paying thousands of dollars to be eliminating widely-appreciated open space. Which interest depressed by self-imposed abuse. General accommodation? deserves more priority? IConn students should answer that brouhaha is good for the soul. Besides, question and voice their opinions. blowing up at blown-out people only will make them insult you the minute you leave the room, possibly before-hand. Being called a mealy-mouthed disco-turdboy is no fun at all. Neither is being iced by a bloodthirsty primate with a gleam in his eye and a bottle in his hand. To see an example of successful University life, go to the I.D.C. I've never seen the place described accurately in print, and it never will be portrayed accurately. The people there get terrific grades and they have a great time on top of it.-No kidding. People smile flagrantly over there, even at strangers. Another difficult situation: a class that really bites. Everybody has one, every semester. Promise yourself that the "teacher" will pay you back in entertainment. The easiest to harass are those who are completely set in their ways and never consider alternative reasoning. Simply famili- arize yourself with enough of the subject to torture them with questions they aren't prepared for. Make sure you-already know the answers. As soon as they screw up, jam them in the gizzard with the correction. Be as condescen- ing as possible, to insure that fellow students are awakened by the sniveling tone of his replies.
