Sam McSherry is also all smiles and he will be going to UVHS to study Calum Procter Maths and Physics. Rob Kerr was over the moon and claimed that he’d done better than he’d expected and with a ‘9’ in History we couldn’t agree more. Grange Now on tour… Headteacher will be sorely missed Grange Now has once again been travelling; this time on the QM2. Reader and contributor, Shirley Chamberlain took her granddaughter, Katie on the cruise as a birthday treat. Shirley told us, “Although she hates having her photo taken, I managed to persuade Katie to have this one taken, with the paper, when we were in the fjords. The QM2 is the most amazing ship!” We’re all very jealous here at the GN office and we’re delighted that they took our paper with them although it would be great if she took us next time!
After twelve years in charge of Cartmel Priory School (CPS), Headteacher, Dr Paul Williams decided it was time to retire. A former deputy Head at a school of 1500 pupils in Oldham, the Lancashire-born Head knew CPS was the school for him on the first day he entered the building.
At the time, CPS was a very different school. It was known locally to be a school which was struggling with to fulfil its potential but under Dr Williams the school has been turned around. It has been amongst Cumbria’s top school’s every year since progress 8 (value added) was introduced for measuring school performance and with more excellent results in 2019 the school expects to fly high in the school performance tables once again this year. When the writer mentioned the fact that he guided the school to ISSUE DEADLINE RELEASE an ‘Outstanding’ rating by Ofsted he dismissed this saying, “We’re not just about results we’re about the pupils as a whole, we hope we’re helping to GN338 Fri 20th Sep Thu 3rd Oct produce well-rounded individuals.” GN339 Fri 18th Oct Thu 31st Oct Always self-effacing, Dr Williams told Grange Now, “We have excellent teachers and support staff here and with just 320 pupils it is possible to GN340 Fri 15th Nov Thu 28th Nov know each of them by name.
