12th Republican Parliament Parliament of Trinidad and Overview

On Monday August 10, 2020, the Republic of held its 14th General Election since gaining independence in 1962 from the United Kingdom, and the 22nd National Election in Trinidad and Tobago to elect forty-one (41) Members to the 12th Republican Parliament.

The People’s National Movement under the leadership of Dr. won 22 of the 41 seats while the under the leadership of Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC won 19 seats.

The Ceremonial Opening of the 12th Republican Parliament took place on August 28, 2020. During that time, 31 Senators were appointed to the Senate while the Members of the House were administered the Oath of Allegiance or Affirmation as Members of the House.

Ms. and Mrs. Bridgid Annisette-George were reelected President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.
