marshals at certain junctions and suitability of some of the vehicles used to lead the groups. RG emailed the club and will not be organising the TT Championship next year so if anyone is interested in organising 2020 please step forward. Richard believes there had been canvassing about the event without his knowledge and felt he was pressurised to change the entry format. The numbers of riders this year are down on last year despite online entries however, last year MD made considerable efforts pushing out paper entries at races and TTs and this may have boosted the numbers, she also reported back to the committee the negative response to paper entries only and reiterated this at the July meeting. 2019 Riders: 41 (38 online entries, 3 paper. Clash with the Ennerdale Crit) 2018 Riders: 49, 2017: Riders 38 Richard and Doug are stepping down from organising any further “Youth Events” even after two popular and successful events on the Ennerdale Circuit this year. Some criticism had come from a HTRC club member which was upsetting after all the effort put in. We thank Richard for all his efforts in organising these events and many others over a long period of time and Doug for his support and organisation particularly with these “Youth Events”.

Yorkshire Cyclo-cross series – Round 1, Bishop Burton 08/09/2019: Rob Jennings

U8s

New club members, Tillie & William Jennings embarked on their first ever cycling race at Bishop Burton College. Both entered the under 8s category with Tillie 7, and William 6, lining up on the start on a sun-drenched morning. Tillie was a little bit more prepared for the event, as she had a much bigger bike with gears to get around on. We were unsure if William was old enough to enter, so we took his bike along just in case. He was, so he was very happy with this, even though he was on his little, no geared 14” wheeled bike.

At the start line made up of 12 riders, both kids were very nervou, but after some encouragement from the organisers and a simple ‘ride as fast as you can, until they tell you to stop’ bit of advice from dad, they soon focused on the job in hand.

Off they went, both pedalling up the little ramp from the start. The well represented Shibden CC had 3 strong lads who quickly made their way to the front. Tillie setting into her rhythm mid pack and William was surprising us by hanging onto her tail, even on the little bike. As the race went on, Tillie continued to maintain a steady pace and picked off a few in front. William soldiered on lap after lap, growing in confidence each time.

Both completed the race and both mum and dad were proud as punch of them both. William said his legs were so tired whilst Tillie wanted to go around again.

Unbeknown to us, Tillie did remarkably well and finished 2nd in the Girls category and 6th overall. William came 6th in boys and 9th overall. Mum and Dad were incredibly proud of them both.

It’s safe to say the kids are now officially hooked. We are planning on taking them to many of the other races in the series. They’ve even now demanded weekly training rides! We took them to West Park in . There are a couple of purpose-built tracks in the park which are perfect for them to train on. I would highly recommend this place for any kids wanting a safe place to practice their skills, plus there is a nice café for mum and dad.

Both kids have also already entered the dangerous world of bike upgrades (there goes dad’s new wheels!!!), William said he needed gears so a new bike for him, and Tillie ended up with some better shifters having struggled with her original ones!!!

For anyone thinking of getting their kids involved in cycling. This is a fantastic way to do so and I would recommend these events to anyone.

Blyton 21st August: Ben Warner Really proud of the guys that went to Blyton last night. With only six in the E123 race we all stepped up to make up the numbers. We were told that with ten in the race we would all be guaranteed points but it was going to hurt. The race was 1 hour 15 minutes plus three laps so longer than most of the races the guys had done as well. The pace was fairly steady and we did some through and off with Doug the first to succumb to the pressure. A couple of attacks and Elliot was off the back. That left Nigel and myself. Around the 40 minute mark there was a flurry of attacks and even though Nigel lost the wheel a couple of times he showed true grit and determination to get back on. Finally losing touch after around 52 minutes following another attack. After that the pace slowed and it became a bit edgy. My legs were already cooked so I let the fast guys duke it out in the sprint and I rolled in seventh. All the guys completed the race with Nigel eighth, Elliot ninth and Doug tenth. Ride of the night was definitely Nigel. And I like the way he takes his first ever BC points in an elite race 

Squadra 234 RR: 25th August: Ben Warner Tough day at the Squadra 234 RR. Finished in the bunch in approximately 20th position which is my best result in a 234. Big thanks to Rich and all the Squadra ladies and gents for hosting 

Blyton: 27th August: Ben Warner Good evening for HTRC at Blyton. Nigel following up a strong race last week took fourth in the 3/4 and I claimed fifth in the E123

Cliff Pratt Ennerdale Crit 29th August: Amanda Dean Well done to Ben Warner who came 5th and Phil McCormick who came

10th in the Ennerdale 3/4 crit tonight. Also racing Andy Paulls, John Galbraith, Nigel Whitely, Mike McAllister and Elliot Jackoby. Good to have a big showing of HTRC. In the E/1/2 race was Lee Coulson who did really well to come 14th - it's scary how fast this race goes! I first aided and all stayed safe despite the sports centre failing to put the lights at 7:30pm as requested, plus a puncture and a rather noisy wheel break in the second race.

HTRC TT Series 2109, Sponsored by Cliff Pratt Cycles: Paul Kilvington

The final event of the 2019 Hull Thursday Road Club time trial series sponsored by Cliff Pratt Cycles took place on Saturday. Riders enjoyed a warm and sunny afternoon but a strong south- westerly wind made for very hard going over the final 4 miles.

Mark Walker took his seventh win of the series with an excellent time of 21:41. In second place was Andrew Miller who recorded 22:19 and was comfortably ahead of third placed Mark McKeown on 23:33.

Once again there was a large number of riders on 24 minutes with Andy Carroll best in 24:08 with Richard Dean and James Bray close behind on 24:38 and 24:41 respectively.

Vanessa Barker once again took the ladies award with an excellent time of 24:58, setting a new ladies course record in the process.

Following the event, the majority of the riders stopped off at the Duke of Cumberland in Ferriby for a prize presentation with the top placed riders in each category receiving Cliff Pratt vouchers.

Amanda & Neil: Thank you to Paul for organising the 2019 HTRC Series. With 16 events there is a lot of work involved. Another

successful series. 2nd in Categories

HTRC OPEN TT RACING ROUNDUP (21 August 2019 to 14 September 2019): By Hull Thursday’s TT Roving Reporter: Jymmy Trevor

The HTRC Time Trial Racing Squad have had a busy period as the 2019 season starts to draw in, a time when many clubs see their member’s efforts tail off. Thursday had 26 performances over 9 events, so not the case with our athletes.

Efforts were split on the first Saturday of this period as Sav headed North at the same time as Andy Carroll, Rich Guymer and Amanda went across the bridge. John Savage headed to Burton Fleming to tackle to Scarborough Paragon Spoco circuit based course, renowned for its hilly nature. Taking 26th from a start sheet of 40 riders with a 29:17, demonstrated the difficulty of the course and conditions as the winner only managed 22:19.

At the same time in Barton, Amanda marginally missed out on her targeted sub 26 minute ‘10’ clocking 26:07 and was pleased as she took 2nd female on the day from Alison Schofield who clocked 25:12 but more importantly is over 20 years younger! The course Barton used loses height but the climbs, sharp turns and bends, rough roads and the exposure to wind means it is not a giveaway course by any means. Andy Carroll was disappointed with 24:06 which achieved him 25th overall from the 55 starters but puts it down to not getting chance to train recently. Rich Guymer had a summer cold which reflects in his time of 26:34 in which he was placed 43rd.

The Sunday saw Alan Thompson and Jymmy compete on the local roads of the V714 on a flat day in TT terms as the breeze blew from the east. The event was the VTTA (Yorks) ‘10’ and saw Alan place 30th with 24:54 and Jymmy 17th with 23:12 from a 62 rider field.

A week later saw the re-run of the postponed early season VTTA (Yorkshire) Championship ‘10’ again on the V714. The event followed to the HTRC ‘Club 10’ that had been held a couple of hours earlier. Unfortunately the rains had arrived and the wind had become a bit more gusty for the Open event. This time Jymmy teamed up with Sav and Andy Carroll. John took 34th place with a good 25:33 which was good for 34th place from 55 starters. Jymmy clocked 22:24 for 12th place. Ride of the day went to Andy Carroll who had an hour earlier ridden the club ‘10’. Andy clocked a 23:52, not bad for a 2nd 10 miles at race effort. Andy took 23rd with this effort.

The day after saw Doug Jaram and Jymmy head to Topcliffe to compete in the Yorkshire road club ‘25’ on the V236/1. Conditions were not great and the morning was a little dull, this was

clearly shown as it was only professional athlete Phil Graves who managed to break the 50 minutes barrier with 49:46, over 3 minutes slower than his season PB. Both Thursday testers produced good performances with Jymmy clocking 56:31 for 14th place and Doug clocking a PB with 1:01:22 for 46th place from a healthy field of 69 time triallists.

The first Saturday of September saw Thursday’s Hardriders ‘25’. This saw nine of the ten Thursday entries compete in breezy but dry conditions. As the event doubles up as the Humberside TT championship, team awards were more important and the Thursday trio of Jymmy, James Bray and Richard Dean managed to take the bronze medals. Thursday results were as follows, Jymmy 59:42, Rich Dean 1:02:24, James Bray 1:02:47, Andy Carroll 1:02:48, Doug Jaram 1:05:15, Ian Phythian 1:05:36, Simon Posnett 1:06:47, John Sav 1:09:09 and Amanda Dean 1:10:16.

The next day saw the old timers John Sav and Jymmy head over to Bubwith to race in the Seacroft Wheelers ’10’ on the V511. Jymmy was pleased with a 23:04 which was good for 15th place whilst John clocked 26:13 taking 49th from the 65 starters.

The last reporting day of this period saw the TT squad split again with Sav and Rich Guymer taking on the bumpy surface of the O10/1 whilst Jymmy decided to tackle the ‘Red Wall’ Otley CC ’25’ part as of the YCF Spoco series. Rich and Sav had a great battle on the Woodhouse Hatfield Road with John taking the honours from Rich by a narrow margin of 14 seconds as they clocked 26:22 and 26:36 respectively. Meanwhile Jymmy had yet again a poor performance on the Red Wall with a 1:02:00 ride and as a result took was only able to take 19th place from 34 finishers on the course officially known as the V235.

That leaves the Open TT championship table taking its shape as we get to the business end of the season. Rich Guymer has flown up the table as rewards for his efforts in the Ten League Series. The best times recorded stay the same as no one has gone faster than those times recorded last period. The TT BAR (Best All Rounder – calculated over 10, 25, 50 &100) is now included with Sav and Jymmy having qualified for placings. The winner of the BAR is presented with a rather large shield at the presentation award dinner.

YCCA Yorkshire Points Cyclo-Cross Round 1, Bishop Burton - 8th September 2019 This was round 1 of the Yorkshire Points series hosted by Velo Club at Bishop Burton College. The weather was fantastic, the course was hilly but surprisingly fast with lots of grass and dusty gravel sections, and the organisation by VCB was spot-on.

Mike Tyas Paul Campbell

There were plenty of local riders but only 4 HTRC riders. In the Vet 50 race, HTRC rider Eddie Kelsall rode to an impressive 38th place against Yorkshire's best old men.

Hull to Morecambe to Bridlington: Two Neils: Neil Prewer

Amanda: Neil (Dean) was jealous of my adventures so I said, why not have your own. How about a coast to coast? Which became a coast to coast to coast …The only victim he could think of for a coast to coast to coast in three days was possibly Neil Prewer. Who seemed to think it was a marvellous idea!!! Kim and I became support team  This involves making sure they were fed and watered. Meeting at lunches, afternoon tea and sorting out at the accommodation. Full crewing report next Scene.

Day 1 - 116 miles/6250ft climbing/15.8 mph

Sports touring for three days with accommodation pre planned and support team of Kim and Amanda carrying all the essentials in the car.

Waving Hull farewell, us Neils set off into a blustery wind keeping to the familiar quiet roads towards . We crossed Boothferry Bridge and went through Airmyn passing the gothic clock tower on High Street. Then on towards Drax on the A645 for just a mile to take a left onto a back road to Carlton. On our way up to lunch we passed through medieval villages with wonderful names such as Temple Hirst and Monk Fyston stopping at Fields Café, Sherburn in Elmet (54 miles) a little earlier than arranged for a refuelling and a natter with the ladies.

Slowed a little after thinking more about what was ahead! We soon passed under the A1 still into the head wind but sheltered more by hedgerows. Barwick in Elmet you cannot forget with a Maypole that must be 80 foot high at the side of the road. We are now following the West Yorkshire cycle route around the outskirts of Leeds. Eccup reservoir you could be forgiven for thinking was in the Lake District and we are on a dirt road then a bridle path. I think it was here we first bumped into other cyclists.

We are now heading for the hills and Neil D takes his glasses off to cope with the drizzle, then has to close his eyes on the decent to Menston due to needle like rain drops! Into Ilkley with the Cow and Calf rocks on our left. The cow looked just like an Easter Island Head. Then its Silsden, the hills are all steep and in quick succession. Another steep ascent out of Crosshills, and near the top we bump into a shower of horseflies that feel like heavy rain drops.

We arranged to meet Kim and Amanda just after Earby and it cannot come too soon (103 miles in the legs). Rejuvenated with tea, cakes and encouragement we set off again with just 13 miles more for today. These last few miles looked easy on a graph but the saw tooth profile and tired legs drag them out for an hour and ten minutes.

At last, we arrive in Clitheroe and our hotel for the night.

Day 2 – 104 miles/7775ft/16.0 mph An early breakfast and on the road for just before 9am. The weather forecast is for a strong westerly wind with rain around 1 pm. We head west through the Forest of Bowland and towards the M6.

It´s easy going on undulating roads in an area that is very green. We pass a couple of reservoirs at Longridge and joined the Lancashire Cycleway, this then connected with route 6 of the NCN.

We’ve passed very few villages today just small clusters or buildings or farms. At Brock we came up behind a tractor trimming the hawthorn hedgerows, the debris was all over the road, thankfully we made it through. We could hear the M6 before seeing it and even from a distance it was noisy. We crossed it at Barnacre and immediately the traffic noise disappeared, carried away by the westerly wind.

We now head North through Nerther Wyersdale, Quernmore and down into Caton. It is here at the Crook of Lune we will meet the ladies for lunch after the dash to Morecambe and back. This part is an easy ride along a well used cycleway and we are out of the wind until we get to the sea front at Morecambe (photo front page)

It’s strong enough to blow the bikes over while we grabbed a passer-by and posed for a photo!

We now start our version of the Roses route. The ride back along the cycleway is easier now so we can take time to admire the fast flowing and stunning river Lune.

We are soon back at Woodie’s, the café at the Crook of Lune but despite everything it says on the internet, it’s closed! However, Kim and Amanda had bought Tesco sandwiches so we shared them out and topped up on a cake and bun feast, all washed down with tea. It was now that the rain started; first we ate under brollies but finished off in the car.

Social Scene September 2019 HULL THURSDAY Road Club

From the off it was uphill and with 52 more rain soaked miles to the accommodation, it was going to be a soggy bottom ride. We climbed ok with the wind on our back but the views were mostly obscured by cloud, glinting distant valley views appeared and disappeared.

The miles ticked by in a blur because we had to remain focused on the slippery single track roads until we got to Settle for the first big climb of the day. The climb in itself wasn’t so bad, just a bottom gear slog, it was just the signage which indicated the slope lessened after about 50 metres which was a little misleading. We both got to the top to enjoy the rugged moorland views and then upped the pace for our next stop at Cracoe.

Kim and Amanda were waiting for us outside the café so we went straight inside to dry off.

The waitress gave us a tea towel each to sit on in an effort to aid our backside drying. After a short break, we set off again with just 12 miles and one more hill to our next B&B.

As we left the café there was a shock sighting, the sun is spotted! (Though it was a brief interlude from the rain).

Tea break Cracoe with helmet hair

We passed a few cyclists on this last section mostly on mountain bikes, we sailed by on road bikes glad not to have the extra weight and drag of heavy wheels. Burnsall is the start of the last climb then up though Appletreewick or Ap-trick if you’re a local, the increasing strong back wind made this last few miles relatively easy. We rode up the hill past Stump Cross Caverns, then just a mile or so further to our Greenhow Hill accommodation. Mucky would be a good description of the two of us, ditto the bikes.

Day 3 – 105 miles/3400ft/17.7 mph

A leisurely huge breakfast delayed our start for the last day but who cares now with just 105 miles to go. We fly down the long descent into Pateley Bridge then slog up the last big climb of the ride up to Brimham Rocks. A few of the balancing rocks are visible from the road but it’s too cold to hang around taking photos.

Well signed roads lead us into Studley Royal Park and through the grounds via a couple of cattle grids. There are about 20 deer just a little too far away to get in a photo but it was still a pleasure to see them.

Neil D Studley Park grounds, deer keeping their distance. Neil P Studley Park church.

The signs have been good so far but we missed one in Ripon, thankfully it was easy to backtrack. The back wind is great today and we are soon under the A1 and through Boroughbridge. The flat landscape is easy going and villages flash by. Oddities like the toll bridge at Aldwalk stick in my mind; it’s simply planks of wood on a riveted girder frame.

Beningbrough Hall, another National Trust property, is part of the route and it’s just after here at Shipton by Beningbrough that we divert from the route to avoid York.

Our route is via Haxby then Stockton on the Forest. Lunch is at the Balloon Tree, Gate Helmsley, and we are about half an hour early. Amanda and Kim are there to greet us.

Social Scene September 2019 HULL THURSDAY Road Club

Lunch was soon over and off we go over the old rail bridge at Stamford Bridge, again we went off route missing out going to Millington via Yapham, this is all familiar and it now feels like just ticking off villages until we get to Hutton Cranswick for a final tea stop.

We miss out and go up through Burton Agnes onto Woldgate and then down into Bridlington. If you have never been into the old town give it a go. Also the route passed the Priory and the Commonwealth war graves.

We are now on the sea front just after the Expanse Hotel and it’s the end of the ride. A quick photo (see front page) then ride across town to Marine Drive where Amanda is waiting for us by the bowling green with a very welcome cup of tea, pizza and scone before bikes are loaded into the car.

Total distance 325 miles and 17,425ft of climbing. We experienced sun, wind, rain, warmth and cold … and some lovely scenery. A fabulous adventure but bodies need some rest now!

A big thank you to Kim and Amanda for their encouragement and support and to Neil D for developing the route.

Donna Summer Hot Stuff (21.8.19): John Ulyatt

YESTERDAY sure was HOT STUFF as DONNA SUMMER made an appearance again. Met Cheryl and Gra in Cottingham and after having our PASSPORT (TO PIMLICO) stamped as we crossed the , we rode to PAPAS (GOT A BRAND NEW BAG.....of chips!) in Bilton to meet the rest of the YOUNG RASCALS (Well we were once!)

Jim was supposed to lead the ride but had a crash a couple of weeks ago and ended up in a (URIAH) HEEP with 2 broken ribs - Ouch!! Ken and Dick decided on a route. 14 in The Peleton and 9 in The Autobus - would have been 10 but Kitch turned up at The Humber Bridge!! NICE to see Vic out with his new KNEES (UP MOTHER BROWN)

We set off through Bilton Grange soon reaching the cycle path along Road and turned off to PAULL (ANKA) heading towards Thorngumbald. Just before the village we did a RIGHT SAID FRED turn onto the meandering lanes over Cherry Cobb Sands and into the DELIVERANCE hamlet of Stoney Creek. SPOOKY (TOOTH). Sunk ISLAND (OF DREAMS) was next and straight across the CROSSROADS onto STONE (ROSES) Creek Road which led us into Patrington. The SW wind was ever increasing and sometimes a help and sometimes a hindrance.

Passing the Guy Fawkes memorial we reached Welwick, birthplace of one of his co- conspirators. Onwards through (BERT) WEETON into Easington, Kilnsea and our destination, Spurn Point Discovery Centre cafe. Our first visit and very impressed. Sausage Sarnie and a Mugga = £4.35 - you can't (SHERYL) CROW about that. Kitch turned up as we were HALFWAY (TO PARADISE) through our meal!!

Finished, we took the COAST (TO COAST) road via Out Newton and Holmpton before turning inland to Patrington. We then turned right off the main road to (RED RED) WINEstead, Halsham passing the turn off to (OUR) ROOS, through Burton Pidsea into Humbleton. Next to (MCGUINNESS) FLINTon, past the MALT AND BARLEY (BLUES) fields, Tansterne, (GO) WEST Newton and alongside Burton Constable Hall.

I must say at this point that the driving of some of THE CARS that passed us today left a lot to be desired - Sheer MADNESS! Old Ellerby was soon reached, a pint in the pub would have been (JOHNNY B) GOOD but we were in a hurry. Parched we carried on through Skirlaugh and over Wawne Common, Wawne and through the warren of streets that is Kingswood and thankfully we were soon at The Ship in Dunswell. Two pints of Carling Lager quenched our thirst. Good to see Jim in the pub. Good craic in the pub and THINGS WE SAID TODAY, "How near was that car?", "That winds strong", "Knock one off", "How much further t'pub", "We've gone wrong", "That was hard".

You Can go your Own Way, Fleetwood Mac (11.9.10): John Ulyatt.

YESTERDAY, The Gerries met at Vanessa's Cafe in Beverley 10am for a coffee and flapjack. Geoff was our leader and the original plan was to go to Malton, however in view of THE WEATHER GIRLS forecast Geoff suggested that we go somewhere different. "Not a problem Geoff, YOU CAN GO YOUR OWN WAY" so Burton Agnes became our destination.

7 in The Peleton and 10 in The Autobus plus another group, due to injuries, just had a steady ride to Driffield.

We caped up as the HEAVEN 17 opened. We headed through the Bar and up to Cherry Burton, talking the road to Etton and though SOUTH (OF THE BORDER) Dalton where we stopped at the pond to de-cape. (Not for long though!) FIVE minutes later heading for Bracken, the (MARVIN) RAINWATER was bouncing off the road! Two decided to go home and a few sheltered - it really was WET WET WET and we were drenched. We regrouped at the barn in Bracken and someone said "THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER". "D:REAM on" came the response. However THE MIRACLES can happen and suddenly MR. BLUE SKY appeared and it lasted all day! It was still BREEZY though (Older members will (BILLY) COTTON onto that one).

The Peleton, now down to 6, passed us at Garton. We turned right here towards Driffield and we swooped down into the Cowlam valley. A right turn took us up the drag onto the main Scarborough road. Within a mile we turned right towards Kilham and after a slight RISE we had a GREASED LIGHTNING 40+ mph descent into Kilham!

A lovely back HAWKWIND blew us up Woldgate and a final descent into Burton Agnes Hall for lunch. NICE to see Vic there - he was just leaving as we arrived. Tomato Soup/French Bread and a Mugga = £6.30. We ate outside as the temp was now 20C. We took our time.

Due to the ever increasing (MICHELLE) GAYLE, we knew it would be a hard ride home. Geoff and I went to the front as we headed through Kelk/Foston/Frodingham/Brandsburton into LEVEN (ON A JEFFERSON AIRPLANE). As we reached the Cycle track we stopped for a WEE (WILLIE HARRIS).

Geoff asked Dick to go to the front and off he flew with a couple of others like a RUBBER BULLET. He disappeared into the distance oblivious that some were not ready to ROCK AND ROLL. The ride went to pot after that! Geoff turned off to Wawne so we thought he was heading for home so carried on. Total Chaos - M PEOPLE everywhere!!

Dave/Steve and myself made our way to WEEL (I STILL LOVE YOU TOMORROW?) into Beverley and through (WOODY) WOODMANSEY to The Ship in Dunswell just after 3pm for a couple of TONY PERONIS. We were first there! Eventually Geoff and Paul arrived and then the others. Great time chatting about what happened and who went which way and why.

A good HARD DAYS (NIGHT) 70 miler. Nearly had a WIPE OUT on the Dunswell underpass - Stupid motorists overtaking at SPEED when they shouldn't be. The railway (GARETH) GATES were down in Cottingham and a young cyclist joined us. Got talking and he rides for Cliff Pratt Racing Team - Joe Spivey. Needless to say he left us for dead when we set off!!

Weekly bath (I do shower everyday btw!!) Hee Hee! Usual music.

FRIDAY(thorpe) ON MY MIND - THE EASYBEATS (18.9.10): John Ulyatt.

YESTERDAY rode to meet the GOLDEN OLDIES at Skidby LAYLA by. Although a COOLIO start, the MONTY SUNSHINE soon appeared and stayed with us the rest of the day. Someone asked, "Whose ride is it today?' "It BE MINE" I replied. We set off at 10.10am / 10 in The Peleton and 16 in The Autobus incl Athena, THE GIRL OF MY BEST FRIEND (Artistic licence used here Pete/Athena!)

Our destination was Fridaythorpe, one of our faves. We headed out via Walkington, over the CROSSROADS at BB (KING) into ETTON (RIFLES) and down into S. Dalton. A right turn at the (ALEXIS) KORNER took us past the pond and we came back on ourselves into Lund. Onto the main road for 100 yards, slightly delayed by some TRAFFIC lights, before turning off to Middleton on the Wolds. Meandering through the village and onto the lumpy road to N. Dalton where we all looked forward to the 3 mile drag up to Huggate!!

Past The Wolds Inn (Great Sunday Lunches) eventually meeting the A166 where we flew down the descent like DYNAMITE to the cafe. It was a (BOBBY) CRUSH inside with the MOTOR BIKIN' guys but service is top notch and we were soon served. Cornish pasty (THE REAL THING!) beans and a Pint Mugga = £5.50. Paid from my LUNCHMONEY (LEWIS). We were in no hurry so we lingered over lunch. Soon it was time to (TAIO) CRUZ back. "Are you ready guys? We're going in 5-4-3-2-1. Hurry up (MANFRED) Mann.

Another FAST AND FURIOUS descent to the MAGIC ROUNDABOUT at Fimber before the long climb up to Sledmere, a truly gorgeous village with another great pub - The Triton Inn. Then another climb up to the Monument and a 3 mile descent to Garton.

We were soon on the BRACKEN (UP IS SO VERY HARD TO DO) track. It's tradition to stop on the Brackenburg (an old railway bridge for a P (J. PROBY) and a chat. "TAKE FIVE men - smoke 'em if you've got 'em" (My best mate Vinny’s (RIP) favourite saying)

It was here that (MOBY) Dick shouted "Kens BLAZIN' SADDLE has BUSTED!" His nuts had sheared off!! - painful eh?!! What a bummer!! There was no way it could be repaired so Ken had to HONKY (TONK WOMAN) for the next 15 miles!! Bet his LEGS hurt this morning!! Ken/Pete and Athena went home via Beverley and Pete reckoned he could repair it at home saving Ken a (LANCE) FORTUNE in repairs.

The rest made our way via Etton again, Walkington, gently through Bentley to The Half Moon in Skidby for 3.10pm. Cheryl and Mike joined us for a couple of hours banter and drinking.

Home for a soak listening to Good Time Oldies on 181. Just the 61 hilly miles.
