BEDE THE VENERABLE CATHOLIC CHURCH | www.bede.org PARISH MESSAGES IMPORTANT - Flu and China Coronavirus We have heard your concerns and questions regarding the flu and coronavirus and would like to share with you the guidelines from our Archdiocese: During the cold and flu season and the current situation with the coronavirus outbreak, all parishioners are reminded to use common sense and good hygiene. Those who are ill are not obliged to attend Mass and should stay home to recover. Receiving the Blood of Christ is not mandatory. If you are feeling ill today, please refrain from partaking of the Blood of Christ from the communal chalice. We suggest that those who are not well refrain from offering their hand to others at the sign of peace (a smile and a heartfelt, "Peace be with you," or a nod of the head works very well) and not holding hands during the Our Father. We pray for the health and recovery of all who are ill and not with us today.
St. Bede Parish offers some general reminders for our families include some of the following: Everyone should wash his/her hands frequently (soap and water preferred for 20 seconds or longer); People with a cough should cover his/her nose when coughing or sneezing, and dispose of tissues immediately; Avoid contact with anyone who is exhibiting symptoms of a cold; Avoid touching one’s eyes, nose, and mouth; Clean and disinfect common areas regularly; Get plenty of sleep, drink water, and eat nutritiously; and The highest risk is for people who have traveled to China recently. Those travelers should stay home should they exhibit symptoms and seek medical attention. Remain at home until you are fever-free without the use of fever- reducing medications for at least 24 hours. If you are sick or have contagious symptoms (fever or respiratory issues), please stay home until at least 24 hours after the fever has broken;
Please also understand and discuss with your children the importance of being thoughtful, respectful, and not overreacting because someone is of Asian descent, wears a mask, or is coughing in church or in public. This is a matter which we should not take lightly, nor make jokes about. “A virus does not discriminate who it infects.”

Sharing the Gospel In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus showed his closest friends – Peter, James, and John – what heaven would be like. Jesus’ friends were amazed to see Moses and Elijah talking to Jesus. Moses and Elijah had gone to heaven hundreds of years before this day. Then Peter, James and John heard God’s voice from the cloud. Jesus, their friend and teacher, was God’s Son. They fell down in fear. You might, too, if you were there.
