• WA Campaigns Iceland's Planet Youth lands in Australia Prevention in Iceland - development and success Understanding the contributing factors • Research over 20 years focused on gathering data from 10th graders to understand relationships between high rates of tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use • 10th graders completed a youth survey which identified key characteristics of those who had higher rates of substance use • Identified lower rates of use amongst those who • Had strong relationships with parents (time spent together, knowing where children were, knowing their friends and friend’s parents) • Had peers who did not have high rates of substance use • Had higher participation rates in sport and other leisure activities (supervised by adults)
