It is great that so many churches want to participate once more in the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham’s Open Churches Weekends. Over 170 churches will be participating over two weekends this July, either simply by opening their doors and welcoming visitors to their regular services, or by offering refreshments and staging additional activities and events. We are so fortunate to have such a rich variety of historical buildings to visit in our city, towns, and villages; places of prayer and worship; centres of community life and service; buildings of historical and architectural significance. But, of course, our Church buildings are first and foremost places to encounter and worship God. They are also great resources for mission and outreach. Growing Disciples: Wider, Younger Deeper is at the heart of our mission in every community across the city and county and I hope these Open Churches Weekends will be opportunities to welcome new visitors and old friends and neighbours, to establish the beginnings of new relationships, and that peoples’ hearts will open to the good news of Jesus. This simple guide booklet includes information submitted by each church taking part. We hope you will find it useful in planning a visit to a few of them. Rev. David McCoulough Director of Partnerships & Mission
